Introducing the 2022 NorthPark Ambassadors
NorthPark Center has named 15 high-profile individuals as 2022 Ambassadors as part of its mission to support key area nonprofits.
Since its inception in 2017, the Ambassador program has raised awareness and funds for more than 40 charities in social and health services and the arts. It augments multiple other long-running philanthropic programs at NorthPark.
All NorthPark Ambassadors are prominent individuals who consider it a personal duty to help make Dallas a better place for all. They will host various charitable initiatives at NorthPark, which attracts some 26 million visitors each year.

Dallas Junior Forum 40th Anniversary & Spring Luncheon
Dallas lifestyle expert, author and
philanthropist Kimberly Schlegel Whitman
delighted a full ballroom of volunteers, philanthropists, and nonprofits with
the story of her grandmother whom she remembers fondly for always doing for
others.

“My grandmother had five children of
her own, and during her lifetime, she also had 36 foster children!” exclaimed
Whitman. “She was an angel on
earth. Seeing my grandmother’s joy in
serving others had a huge impact on me.”
Whitman provided the keynote address
titled, “Adventures in Philanthropy:
How Trying To Give Back Changed My Life And Career,” at the Dallas Junior
Forum 40th Anniversary spring luncheon on April 26, at the Belo Mansion and Pavilion. Luncheon chair was Mary Cartwright, and WFAA’s Jane McGarry served as mistress of
ceremonies.

The Dallas Junior Forum (DJF), a
non-profit volunteer organization for women in North Texas that employs no paid
staff, is one of nine chapters of Junior Forum, Inc. – Texas based service
organizations originating in Houston in 1959.
DJF was founded in 1977 to create greater interest in civic, educational
and philanthropic endeavors in the North Texas community through volunteer work
focused on children, families and the elderly.

The annual luncheon, known for its expansive silent auction
featuring hundreds of items, helps to provide monetary grants to the nonprofits
the group serves.
Organizations served by the Dallas
Junior Forum include Dallas Children’s
Advocacy Center, The Ebby House, Juliette Fowler Communities, Frisco Family Services,
Hope’s Door New Beginnings Center, Interfaith Family Services, Network,
PediPlace, and the Ronald McDonald House.

Since it began 40 years ago, DJF has donated hundreds of
thousands of volunteer service hours to the charitable agencies it supports. During
the 2014-15 fiscal year alone, members volunteered more than 16,400 hours and
saved the nonprofits served $411,800 in wages, employment taxes and benefit
expenses. Additionally, DJF awarded $123,700 in grants and non-grant funding. Over the years this all-volunteer organization
has donated more than $1 million in direct grants and non-grants to worthy
non-profit organizations throughout North Texas.

As guests enjoyed pink champagne soup with mint drizzle,
tenderloin of beef Nicoise salad, and triple chocolate parfaits, Whitman
praised the members for their amazing work and the many volunteer hours they
give so many nonprofits each year.
“As a child, I watched how my parents were always very
involved with giving back to the community, and I want my children to see me
giving and helping others as well,” added Whitman.
She also highlighted the seven books she has written and
said that her most recent book “Monograms for the Home: The Art of Making Your
Mark” was inspired from a quote she read from Reese Witherspoon: “If it doesn’t breathe, monogram it!”
Immediately following the luncheon, Whitman held a book
signing and visited with guests.
“Kim represents a new generation of volunteers involved in
service to others,” added Cartwright.
“We were excited to look out in the audience and see some new faces and
hope to have some new members to help us serve others in the coming year. As we continue our 40th anniversary
celebration this year, we hope to reach even more people in need.”

Our Own Kimberly Schlegel Whitman to Keynote Dallas Junior Forum's 40th Anniversary Spring Luncheon
“Kim Whitman represents a new generation of volunteers involved in service to others,” said Mary Cartwright, luncheon chair. “Her giving spirit matches Dallas Junior Forum's mission to benefit children, families and the elderly in need in the greater Dallas area, and her servant’s heart coupled with her creativity and enthusiasm will, without a doubt, inspire our attendees as we gather to celebrate 40 years of service in North Texas.”
Whitman, a graduate of Southern Methodist University, donates her time to many charitable organizations. She currently serves on the advisory board of New Friends New Life as well as the board of the North Texas Food Bank, where she is a member of the committee for the newly announced “Stop Hunger Build Hope” $55 million capital campaign and former chair of Food 4 Kids. She has also served on the board of the American Red Cross. Her honors include the American Heart Association's Volunteer of the Year Award, Northwood University's Distinguished Women's Award, Texas Woman's University's Virginia Chandler Dykes Leadership Award, The Little Flower Organization of New York's Women Who Make A Difference Award, and the Women That Soar Award. Ms. Whitman has appeared on radio and TV, and in 2011, she became the Editor-At-Large of Southern Living Magazine. She has published seven books which will be available for purchase at the event.

We also enjoy setting up apartments for the working-poor residents at Interfaith Family Services while also staffing the in-house clothing boutique for adults seeking employment. At Ebby House, we sponsor and furnish bedrooms for the young women residing there, who were formerly in foster homes, and mentor them in life skills and career planning. There is truly something for everyone looking to make a difference in the lives of others, and we invite anyone looking to give back in the community to join us and consider becoming a member.”

Dallas A-listers Gather for Fashion Show & Luncheon presented by the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary
Once again, the annual Fashion Show & Luncheon presented by the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary was the year's must-attend event for fashion conscious Dallas A-listers. Dixey Arterburn and Ginger Sager were Event Co-chairs.

Jan Strimple Productions created and produced an incredible Runway Show from the "best dressed" closets and stores in Dallas. "Each year hundreds of outfits sell for pennies on the dollar through a runway-style fashion show featuring professional models, as well as the ever-popular Chic Boutique, the on-site store where women can search through racks of designer labels to find that perfect look," said Ginger Sager, Event Co-Chair.

The Salvation Army provides 70 different programs and services that make life better for people in need. This includes shelter for the homeless, food for the hungry, clothes for the needy, emergency financial assistance, domestic violence programs, rehab for people with addictions, after-school programs for children, and housing for the elderly.

"Over the years, the event has raised over $8 million to support the activities of The Salvation Army in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex 365 days a year," said Salvation Army Captain Michelle Matthews. Inaugural NTFB Harvest Kickoff Reception
Co-chairs Kristi Bare and Nancy Gopez welcomed more than seventy-five host committee members and sponsors for a cocktail reception to celebrate Harvest presented by VHA, a new fundraising event benefiting The North Texas Food Bank.

Hosted by Place at Perry’s, partygoers mingled while enjoying wine and a delicious cocktail buffet. Midway through the evening, Bare and Gopez welcomed guests and thanked the many sponsors to date, as well as the event’s honorary co-chairs Janet and Phil Cobb, Ruthie and Jay Pack, and Katherine and Eric Reeves.

Bare and Gopez shared details of the upcoming September 19 fundraiser, including the site for the event, the newly renovated Dallas Farmers Market. Guests at Harvest will enjoy cocktails, food stations from some of Dallas’ favorite chefs and restaurants under the leadership of renowned chef Sharon Hague, entertainment by DJ Lucy Wrubel, silent and live auctions, wine auction and more. A highlight of the evening will be the recognition of five “Golden Fork” recipients, an annual award that honors five local philanthropists who have made a significant impact in the pursuit of a hunger-free community.

At the reception, Jan Pruitt, president and CEO of The North Texas Food Bank, added her thanks to the many supporters of the fundraiser and spoke about the important programs that would benefit from the proceeds of the inaugural Harvest: Food 4 Kids provides backpacks full of nonperishable, kid-friendly food for chronically hungry elementary-age children to take home on Fridays during the school year; School Pantry, puts healthful, shelf-stable food and fresh produce into the hands of children and families once a month through partnerships with public and charter schools; Nourishing Neighbors, a new Food Bank initiative addressing hunger among the 'silver tsunami,' the growing numbers of senior adults who find themselves in need and The Main Program, provides access to 62 million+ healthful meals to 262 Partner Agencies in 13 North Texas counties, including pantries, soup kitchens and shelters.
