Texas Women’s Foundation Awards More Than $820,000 to support women and families across North Texas

Through its annual Community Grants Cycle, Texas Women’s Foundation (TXWF) has distributed $822,160 to 23 nonprofits improving the lives of more than 20,000 women, girls and families in North Texas. Among the grants, TXWF Board Alumnae awarded the Virginia B. Whitehill Board Alumnae Grant to Bonton Farms in the amount of $40,000; and TXWF’s Nineteen network provided a grant of $40,000 to Nexus Family Recovery Center.

Grant recipients were recognized at a special reception on September 26 at Texas Women’s Foundation, which is celebrating its 40^th anniversary this year. This reception kicked off a year-long tribute honoring the rich history of TXWF’s founders and the four decades of impact the organization has made on the lives of women and girls across the state.

Join Vogel Alcove in celebration of their 32nd Annual Arts Performance Event featuring an unforgettable performance by the Barenaked Ladies. The night will begin at 5:30pm with an open-bar reception in the Ryder Cup Ballroom Pre-Function Area. Doors to the Ryder Cup Ballroom open at 7:00pm for a curated dinner and program.

After dinner, sing and dance the night away starting at 8:30pm with an amazing performance by the Barenaked Ladies. Before the night is over, guests will enjoy an After Glow dance party on the Ryder Cup Ballroom Lawn featuring Dallas’ favorite party band, Emerald City with the evening ending at 11pm. Resort casual is requested. Since 1987, over 18,000 young, homeless children have walked through the doors of Vogel Alcove. The Annual Arts Performance Event is Vogel Alcove’s flagship fundraiser, raising a significant percentage of their operating budget.

Introducing the 2022 NorthPark Ambassadors

 

NorthPark Center has named 15 high-profile individuals as 2022 Ambassadors as part of its mission to support key area nonprofits.

Since its inception in 2017, the Ambassador program has raised awareness and funds for more than 40 charities in social and health services and the arts. It augments multiple other long-running philanthropic programs at NorthPark.

All NorthPark Ambassadors are prominent individuals who consider it a personal duty to help make Dallas a better place for all. They will host various charitable initiatives at NorthPark, which attracts some 26 million visitors each year.

The Beach Boys Headline the 29th Annual Arts Performance Event benefiting Vogel Alcove

Karen R. Hughes, President and CEO, Vogel Alcove, announces the 29th Annual Arts Performance Event will not be canceled in 2021! The event is co-chaired by Scott Beck, CEO of Beck Ventures, Inc. and Alex Holmes, Chairman & CEO of MoneyGram International.

 Get ready for this afternoon picnic with The Beach Boys as the headline entertainment. The event will also feature an in-home Virtual Experience of the performance for those who prefer to remain at home. 

Mark your calendars and get your sponsorships now for the Saturday, May 1st event, as seating is limited based on the City of Dallas capacity restrictions. The Arts Performance Event is the largest fundraising event of the year for Vogel Alcove, raising a significant portion of their annual funding. Following a year of event cancellations and unprecedented occurances, this 2021 event will be unlike any other.

Picnic meals and an open bar will be provided by Wolfgang Puck Catering for onsite guests only. All seating is on the grassy area in front of the stage. The grass will be marked off in squares and there will be a comfortable chair in each square. Social distancing will be strictly enforced, and masks are required as well as temperature checks at registration. The event begins at 5:00 p.m. with a reception and the concert begins at 6:00 p.m. The After Party is from 7:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Can’t make the picnic in-person? Gather your family, friends, or colleagues and live-stream the entire performance in your own home.  This sponsorship package is $1,000 and includes a secure online link, and Party-Package Gift Basket. Day 1 DFW Benefiting Vogel Alcove

 

Vogel Alcove’s annual event, Day 1 DFW is returning for its sixth year, this year presented by Main Event. The fun, family fair has been reimagined to offer families 3 Safe Ways to Play on New Year’s Day. Each option is designed to fit the health and safety concerns for varying comfort levels of DFW families. There will be in-person event, a virtual events, and a closing drive-in fireworks show. All proceeds from Day 1 DFW benefit Vogel Alcove, a nonprofit serving homeless children and their families.

1) 1.  Main Event Presents Day 1 DFW, January 1, 2021

Purchase all-access wristbands for one of three Main Event sites on January 1, 2021. Each of these Main Event venues will open at 9:00 a.m.

* Main Event Frisco – 9375 Dallas Pkwy, Frisco. 

* Main Event Grapevine- 407 W State Hwy 114, Grapevine.

* Main Event Grand Prairie – 3106 S State Hwy 161, Grand Prairie.

All- Access Wristbands: At a $70 value, the $15 all-access wristband affords wearers access to unlimited play of bowling, billiards, laser tag, gravity ropes, and golf. Participants will be issued bowling shoes and a $10 Fun Card for use around the facility. Each site will offer face painting for $5 and photo booths for pictures of the family. Come early from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. and receive free access to the VR “Holigate” game at all three locations. 

Frisco Location: Karaoke will be available all day at the Frisco location. Gravity ropes and golf are available at this location only. The Frisco location will be the main hub where the Virtual Experience shows will be available for limited in-person attendance.

2)2.  The Day 1 DFW Virtual Experience

For families staying safe at home, we’ve created a Day 1 DFW Virtual Experience that will feature live and pre-recorded performances from Magician Grant Price, animals with Wildlife on the Move, and the Star Wars Characters from the 501st Legion. There will also be fun activities airing such as a Virtual Trivia Game, a Hula Dancing Lesson, dancing, a cooking class, a science show and Virtual Bingo. These Family friendly video experiences will be offered along with other great activities like our New Year’s Resolution Scavenger Hunt and Cardboard Challenge. Don’t wait until New Year’s Day. 

3.  Day 1 DFW Drive-In Fireworks Show (FREE)

At the end of a day filled with fun, events will be wrapped up at 7 p.m. with a FREE drive-in fireworks show sponsored by Oncor and FC Dallas, hosted at Toyota Stadium in Frisco located at 200 World Cup Way, Frisco, TX 75033. The spectacular fireworks shows never disappoint so expect a blast!

An Evening with Vogel Alcove featuring World Piano Man Martyn Lucas Rocked!

 A Special Evening with Vogel Alcove featuring World Piano Man Martyn Lucas in concert rocked! A crowd of supporters and friends got together virtually and sang and danced in support of the nonprofit’s mission of providing therapeutic early childhood services, school-age programs and family support services for homeless children ages six weeks to 12 years old, and their families.

Sponsored by Santander Consumer USA, donations brought in song requests as the evening began with a request for “You’ve Got a Friend In Me,” and rocked on with Elton John’s “Crocodile Rock.” Karen Hughes, President and CEO of Vogel Alcove, welcomed guests and shared a video spotlighting the children and families helped by the organization.  The fun continued with Martyn singing in the voices of Billy Joel in “Movin’ Out,” and more songs in the voices of Andrea Bocelli, John Legend, John Lennon, a sing-along of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and more.

Martyn Lucas, World Piano Man

A special highlight was the auction of a guitar signed by Jon Bon Jovi with Regina Bruce as the high bidder.  In tribute, Martyn sang Bon Jovi’s “Bed of Roses.”  The concert ended with everyone joining in singing Queen’s “We Are The Champions,” waving hands and sharing smiles.

Post-event at the photo shoot, Regina surprised Vogel Alcove by donating the Jon Bon Jovi guitar back to Vogel Alcove, whereupon a silent bidder scooped it up, donating even more to the cause.

All proceeds from this event benefit Vogel Alcove, an early childhood education and Parent Opportunity Center that is working to Break the Cycle of Poverty for homeless children and their families in Dallas. Vogel Alcove provides educational, developmental and therapeutic services to children and families affected by homelessness.

Vogel Alcove is on a mission to help young children and families overcome the lasting and traumatic effects of homelessness. It is their vision that every child in our community has a home, a self-sufficient family and a foundation for success in school and life — and the clock is ticking. YOU can help.

• NEIGHBORHOOD INKIND DRIVE: Hold an In-kind donation drive for an urgent need, such as clothing items, diapers, toys, or other necessities.  Check their website for     current needs: https://vogelalcove.org/donate/urgent-needs/ 
• Examples of how to turn a drive into a fun event:
• Hold an outdoor community BBQ/cookout and have guests bring an in-kind item for the drive in exchange for food/drink.  Perhaps even have fun games to play for small donations.  
• Create a neighborhood scavenger hunt and have participants bring an in-kind item or donation to receive their instruction list.  Hold a prize drawing for all teams who successfully complete the scavenger hunt.

• VIRTUAL CHILDRENS  PLAY: Act out and record a virtual children’s story.   Select a classic children’s story and recruit your actors,  director, and film/production crew.  Keep the recording fairly short (to keep the attention span of toddlers and pre-k kiddos) and be silly, loud, fun, goofy, and energetic.  You can record and edit the films on phone or computers.  Fun is the only requirement. 

• BYE BYE BAG PROJECT: Hold a “Bye Bye Bag” building project for the children of Vogel Alcove to take back to the places they are spending the night. You can shop for the items, set up bag decorating stations, and then create an assembly line for putting the bags together.  Watch this video for more information. 

• DECORATE BIRDHOUSES:  Create a Bird House decorating contest.   For a $100 gift, you can purchase a small wooden birdhouse(s) from Vogel Alcove.  Companies, Business Departments, Individuals, or Families can then decorate the birdhouses however they wish.  The birdhouses are returned to Vogel Alcove and hang on the “Giving Trees” in their hallway.   You could create prizes for most unique, funniest, most creative, overall winner, etc.  Perhaps have people on social media vote for their favorites.

Furniture 4 Kids

For more than a decade, the Furniture 4 Kids Design Contest has brought out the competitive and creative spirits of architecture and design professionals throughout Dallas. Teams of designers are challenged to transform identical children’s tables and chairs into themed and functional furniture pieces. This year’s theme is “Farm to Table.” A panel of judges will choose the winning pieces, and the entries will be available for bid through an online raffle supporting Vogel Alcove.

The Ambassadors of Hope Awards were created to honor the individuals and organizations that support Vogel Alcove’s mission to help children recover from the trauma of homelessness. They include awards named for our founders – Doris Budner and Thelma Vogel.

Vogel Alcove is the only comprehensive early childhood education program in Dallas that provides free childcare and case management for children and families residing at emergency shelters, domestic violence shelters and housing programs.

Since 1934, Camp Fire Camp El Tesoro has served as the camp for tens of thousands of campers, specifically children who have lost one or both parents. Children come to camp to learn how to manage the grieving process and make friends with other children who are also grieving.
