NTFB Second Annual HARVEST

Join North Texas Food Bank on September 18, 2015 for the second annual HARVEST. For one night only The Shed, at the center of the revitalized Dallas Farmers Market, is transformed into a "moveable feast." Festivities will include food stations from some of Dallas’ top chefs and restaurants, specialty cocktails, entertainment by DJ Lucy Wrubel, and silent and live auctions. All proceeds will benefit the senior and child programs of the North Texas Food Bank.

Chefs for Farmers Hosts First Annual Oyster Bash at Revamped Dallas Farmer's Market

Dallas’ own downhome and dirty CHEFS FOR FARMERS present the 1^st annual Oyster Bash on Sunday, October 26 from 2pm – 6pm at the newly revamped Dallas Farmer’s Market.  Festivities include cooked and live oysters from Texas as well as East and West Coasts shucked on site by the biggest foodie chef hotshots, cocktails, wine, an oyster slurp-off, tarot card reader, spins from DJ Souljah and surprises to come. 

 

Jon Alexis (TJ’s Seafood Market), Matt McCallister (FT 33) Kyle McClelland (Proof and Pantry), Jack Perkins (The Slow Bone), Stephen Rogers (Gemma), Jon Stevens (Stock & Barrel), John Tesar (Knife) and special guest Randy Rucker (Briar and Bramble, Houston) serve up oyster-centric dishes and sides during the mix and mingle event.

 

Libations served up BYOG (bring your own glass) style will showcase spirits and wines from the Glazer’s portfolio. The $85 ticket is inclusive of food, libations, tax and gratuity.  Tickets available now @ Prekindle. A portion of the proceeds benefit Cafe Momentum and Foodways Texas.

Co-chairs Kristi Bare and Nancy Gopez welcomed more than seventy-five host committee members and sponsors for a cocktail reception to celebrate Harvest presented by VHA, a new fundraising event benefiting The North Texas Food Bank.

 Hosted by Place at Perry’s, partygoers mingled while enjoying wine and a delicious cocktail buffet. Midway through the evening, Bare and Gopez welcomed guests and thanked the many sponsors to date, as well as the event’s honorary co-chairs Janet and Phil Cobb, Ruthie and Jay Pack, and Katherine and Eric Reeves.

 Bare and Gopez shared details of the upcoming September 19 fundraiser, including the site for the event, the newly renovated Dallas Farmers Market. Guests at Harvest will enjoy cocktails, food stations from some of Dallas’ favorite chefs and restaurants under the leadership of renowned chef Sharon Hague, entertainment by DJ Lucy Wrubel, silent and live auctions, wine auction and more. A highlight of the evening will be the recognition of five “Golden Fork” recipients, an annual award that honors five local philanthropists who have made a significant impact in the pursuit of a hunger-free community.

At the reception, Jan Pruitt, president and CEO of The North Texas Food Bank, added her thanks to the many supporters of the fundraiser and spoke about the important programs that would benefit from the proceeds of the inaugural Harvest: Food 4 Kids provides backpacks full of nonperishable, kid-friendly food for chronically hungry elementary-age children to take home on Fridays during the school year; School Pantry, puts healthful, shelf-stable food and fresh produce into the hands of children and families once a month through partnerships with public and charter schools; Nourishing Neighbors, a new Food Bank initiative addressing hunger among the 'silver tsunami,' the growing numbers of senior adults who find themselves in need and The Main Program, provides access to 62 million+ healthful meals to 262 Partner Agencies in 13 North Texas counties, including pantries, soup kitchens and shelters.

North Texas Food Bank to Relocate HQ to Dallas Farmers Market

The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) recently announced plans to relocate the organization’s administrative headquarters to its newly acquired building in the heart of the Dallas Farmers Market (DFM). Renovations to the new headquarters site, which was formerly the DFM administration building, will begin immediately with a March 2015 target move-in date.

 

 Each day the NTFB provides access to 175,000 meals though partnerships with the 262 Partner Agencies across North Texas. The Food Bank will continue regular operations, as well as its volunteer program, at its Cockrell Hill location in South Dallas.

 

The NTFB's move to the Dallas Farmers Market is an important complement to the overall rejuvenation of the market to include renovations to Shed 1 for farmers, produce and other local products; and to Shed 2, which will include new and existing restaurants, artisanal and other vendors, and the addition of adjacent residential development with retail and free, centrally located public parking.

 

NTFB President and CEO Jan Pruitt said, "Having our offices near Downtown Dallas will connect NTFB to Dallas' thriving business district and has the potential to broaden our donor and volunteer base. Moving our administrative headquarters to the Dallas Farmers Market is an exciting part of our strategic vision to close the hunger gap in North Texas and increase the amount of food we distribute to hungry children, seniors and families."

Breakfast with Cheryl Forberg, RD and Nutritionist for NBC's The Biggest Loser

Come enjoy a wonderful breakfast with Cheryl Forberg, RD, Award Winning Cookbook author and nutritionist for NBC's The Biggest Loser. If you are a fan of this popular show, you can ask Cheryl questions about what takes place when the cameras are not rolling on the ranch and learn weight loss tips that Cheryl teaches to the Biggest Loser contestants. This full breakfast will even include Cheryl's pumpkin polenta, which will easily help you get in the spirit of the fall days that lie ahead.

All proceeds from this event will go to the American Institute of Wine and Food's Days of Taste Program. The program was modeled after one in France and quickly picked up in our own country, now Days of Taste Dallas helps fourth and fifth graders from the Dallas public schools discover the farm to table concept as well. These students tour the wonderful Dallas Farmer's Market and meet with local farmers and chefs who help to teach them about the delicious local produce and how to grasp enthusiasm for local, fresh ingredients.
