Zoo To Do Teams Up With Trademark Property Co., Galleria and Gittings Portrait Studios

For an added splash ahead of this year’s Zoo To Do gala, the Zoo team and Zoo To Do chair Marena Gault worked with Chuck Steelman from Trademark Property Co./Galleria Dallas to dream up a Wild and Wonderful installation at the iconic North Dallas shopping center.

The team took over an empty storefront for the month of October to feature stunning portraits of generous Zoo donors and Zoo To Do guests, paired with the eye-catching lion creative that sets the tone for this year’s Zoo To Do “Wild and Wonderful” theme.

Rick Bettinger and his team from Gittings Portrait Studios thoughtfully volunteered their time to capture photos of a mix of long-time supporters and new friends of the Zoo, all decked out in black tie attire, next to the beautiful habitats and amazing animals at the Dallas Zoo. As a part of the project, Gittings donated the standard sitting fees for the portraits to the Zoo. And incorporated on the creative in the installation is a QR code which passers-by can use to make their own donation to support the Zoo’s mission of Engaging People & Saving Wildlife.

Slated for Saturday, November 5, the Dallas Zoo’s largest fundraiser Zoo To Do will open to 700-plus guests as they begin the evening near the Giants of the Savanna habitat with cocktails and small bites from a selection of Dallas’ standout restaurants, while enjoying animal encounters and browsing the Big Board and silent auction items. The strolling dinner and dessert then continues in the Wilds of Africa Plaza, featuring additional sweet treats and late night bites from outstanding guest chefs. Following dinner, guests can bid on Zoo experiences, travel, and more in the live auction. Partygoers will then dance the night away to music by Manhattan.

Joining Marena as chair is her husband, Roger Gault. Honorary Chairs are Kim and Greg Hext. Robyn and Chris Chauvin are Host Committee Chairs. Sherwood Wagner is VIP Chair.

Galleria Dallas and Fashion Group International Bring "Fashion Meets Mask" Exhibit, November 5-30, 2020

The fashion experts have spoken and the mask is definitely the accessory du jour for 2020. In recognition of this, Galleria Dallas is partnering with the Dallas chapter of Fashion Group International to present Fashion Meets Mask, an exhibit and virtual auction celebrating the art of the mask. More than fifty face masks created by local and national celebrities will be on display throughout November. Proceeds from the sale of those masks will benefit the Fashion Group Foundation of Dallas, a 501(c)3 which provides scholarships to fashion design and fashion merchandising students across North Texas and the region.

Mask Designed by Delgado NYC

The colorful array of face coverings was designed by a wide variety of luminaries, including designers such as local designer Venny Etienne, who gained renown as a contestant on Bravo’s Project Runway and for his glam gold jacket featured in Beyonce’s “Black is King” video, and Dame Zandra Rhodes, the British designer who has clothed everyone from Diana, Princess of Wales to Freddy Mercury. Visual artists ranging from Jeremiah Onifade to Lea Fisher have submitted works. Additional masks have been created by celebs ranging from actresses Linda Gray and Morgan Fairchild to athletes like Troy Aikman and Darryl Johnston.

Mask Designed by Nha Khanh

The mask collection will be displayed on Level One near Banana Republic beginning Thursday, November 5 and will stay up through Monday, November 30. Interested bidders can either use the QR code onsite at the exhibition or visit http://events.handbid.com/auctions/fashion-meets-mask to bid on the individual masks.

Magical Origami Butterflies Take Flight at Galleria Dallas

Spring is on the wing at Galleria Dallas after the artistic team at Paper for Water installed nearly 4,000 origami butterflies over the shopping center’s iconic ice skating rink to celebrate the spring season and bring attention to the water crisis across the globe.  The art installation, From Fold to Flight, will remain ‘flying’ above the ice through Saturday, June 30.

Paper for Water was founded by sisters Katherine and Isabelle Adams when they were only five and eight years old. The organization started when the girls made origami pieces which they created in exchange for donations with hopes of raising $500 to build a well in Ethiopia. Six years later, the organization has raised over $1.3 million to fund 150 water projects in 14 countries.  All 4,000 origami butterflies featured in Fold to Flight will be hand folded by Paper for Water volunteers.

“The barrel vaulted ceiling above the Galleria Ice Skating Center is the perfect gallery to host the beautiful origami created by the volunteer artists at Paper for Water,” explains Martha Hinojosa, Galleria Dallas director of marketing. “We are honored to host this beautiful installation and to bring attention to the global water crisis mission served by these amazing young women.”

From Fold to Flight is designed to bring attention and awareness to the mission of Paper for Water.  Due to unsafe water and poor sanitation conditions in much of the developing world, millions of people live with the fact that the water they drink to survive may kill them. Diarrhea, which is an inconvenience in developed countries, can be deadly, especially to young children. There are 2.5 billion cases of diarrhea every year in children under the age of five, and deaths from diarrhea amount to 760,000 a year. It’s the second leading cause of child deaths in the world, taking the lives of more young children than AIDS, malaria and measles combined. By supporting Paper for Water, donors help bring clean water to the global poor worldwide through the construction of water wells in impoverished communities. Paper for Water raises money to drill wells for some of the world's 783 million people who lack access to clean water.
