The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Kickoff Halftime Show

Grammy, ACM, and CMA Award winner and reigning ACM and CMA Entertainer of the Year Lainey Wilson will perform live at AT&T Stadium for The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Kickoff Halftime Show during the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game against the New York Giants, airing on Fox. The Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game has become the most-watched regular season game of the year, drawing 42 million viewers last year.

Wilson’s performance will celebrate the reason for the season, featuring songs from her new album, “Whirlwind,” and a special surprise guest. Fans should expect to see bell-bottoms, boots, and lots of bells this Thanksgiving.

The Thanksgiving Day game marks the official start of one of the largest and longest-running annual fundraisers of its kind, the Red Kettle Campaign. A Cowboys tradition for 28 years, the halftime show puts a national spotlight on the needs of millions during the holiday season and all year long, issuing a rallying cry to donate to The Salvation Army. With the help of the Dallas Cowboys, The Salvation Army has raised more than $3 billion since the Red Kettle Kickoff began.

“It’s an honor to follow in the footsteps of legendary performers like my friend Dolly Parton, The Jonas Brothers, and Reba, of course, to kick off The Salvation Army’s iconic Red Kettle Campaign,” Wilson shared. “Join me at the Red Kettle this Christmas season because we truly can do more good when we come together to serve those in need in our communities.”

“Performers like Lainey Wilson represent the next generation of role models for so many,” said Charlotte Jones, chief brand officer and co-owner of the Dallas Cowboys and former national advisory board chairperson for The Salvation Army. “We are so thankful to have her energy and enthusiasm on our national stage this year to highlight the Red Kettle Kickoff and the importance of giving back to those who need it most.”

Dallas Cowboys and Luke Combs Dedicate Live Thanksgiving Halftime Show To Ensure 'Hope Marches On' for Those in Need

Together The Salvation Army, Dallas Cowboys, and Luke Combs help ensure hope marches on for those in need this holiday season and beyond

The Salvation Army's 131st annual Red Kettle Campaign launches the season of giving today and is calling on a generous public to help ensure hope marches on for millions of Americans continuing to combat the impacts of pandemic poverty. The holiday fundraising campaign kicked off at AT&T Stadium on Thanksgiving Day with a special nationally televised halftime performance during the Dallas Cowboys game against the Las Vegas Raiders on CBS.

Award-winning country musician Luke Combs dazzled audiences across the nation with a live performance at a halftime show that will include the iconic Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

The Red Kettle Campaign, the largest and longest-running fundraiser of its kind, is especially needed now to meet the increasing needs of millions of Americans continuing to battle the impacts of pandemic poverty. The Salvation Army has not stopped working to provide help and hope — no matter the cost — since the pandemic began. This year, The Salvation Army estimates it will need $175 million — almost 50% more than raised in red kettles in 2020 — to help keep Americans in their homes this holiday season and beyond.

Across the nation, volunteers, donors, communities, and corporations have stepped up in remarkable ways:

  • On Dec. 3, The Salvation Army's national commander is challenging bell ringers across the country to raise $1 million in just four hours. An interactive map with participating red kettle teams will be available at SalvationArmyUSA.org for those who wish to donate in person or virtually in support of the goal.
  • Throughout the season, supporters can still donate to thousands of red kettles stationed outside storefronts at Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's; Boscov's; Big Lots; Dillard's; Food Lion; Hobby Lobby/Mardel; JCPenney; Kroger Family of Stores; Macerich Properties; Macy's/Bloomingdale's; RPCS, Inc.; Walgreens; Walmart; and Sam's Club.
  • Walmart will again offer customers at Walmart.com the option to round up their purchase to the nearest dollar in support of The Salvation Army. Walmart is also supporting The Salvation Army Angel Tree with in-store trees at Walmart stores and Sam's Clubs and online at www.walmartangeltree.com.
The Salvation Army needs everyone's help now more than ever. Contact your local Salvation Army to sign up to volunteer at a red kettle or distribute Angel Tree gifts to children in need.
You can also give any amount by texting "KETTLES" to 51555.
Every donation stays in the community to help make sure that hope marches on for those in need. To give help or get help, please visit SalvationArmyUSA.org.

Kane Brown To Help "Rescue Christmas" During Cowboys Thanksgiving Day Game

Global entertainer Kane Brown will perform at AT&T Stadium during the nationally televised halftime of the Dallas Cowboys game on FOX against the Washington Football Team on Thanksgiving Day

The performance is a Cowboys tradition, sounding the call for Americans to donate to the Red Kettle Campaign. The funds raised through the iconic Red Kettles are at risk this year due to COVID-19 and requests for help are at an all-time high, making this year's Red Kettle Kickoff more important than ever in providing shelter and meals for the homeless and hungry, Christmas toys for children and social service programs to millions of people in need year-round.

"I'm thrilled to be a part of this year's Dallas Cowboys halftime show honoring The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign," Brown said. "There were times growing up when my family did not have enough to eat, or a roof over our head, and today, there are so many people in need. 2020 has been a hard year, but every small act of generosity helps. I am honored to have the opportunity to bring awareness to the ways people can help during this holiday season and beyond."

"Kane Brown's contagious energy and positive spirit are just what we need to put a spotlight on the campaign, especially during a time when so many people are struggling due to the pandemic," said Charlotte Jones Anderson, executive vice president and chief brand officer for the Cowboys and former national advisory board chairperson for The Salvation Army. "Kane's music has a way of inspiring hope, and we're excited to have him on our national stage for an incredible halftime performance this year."

For the first time in 130 years, The Salvation Army started its annual fundraising campaign early by announcing digital fundraising efforts in September to support the exponential need resulting from the pandemic – and with the forethought that in-person donations will be scarcer due to stay-at-home and social-distancing implications. The early call implores Americans to help "Rescue Christmas" for the millions who were already struggling or newly find themselves at risk of homelessness and hunger or simply being unable to provide toys for their kids this year.

Now more than ever, The Salvation Army is making it safer and simpler to donate in order to support the most vulnerable in our nation:

  • The best way to ensure vital services continue throughout the year is to enlist in Love's Army with a sustaining monthly gift of $25.
  • To help ensure the safety of bell ringers, donors and partners, The Salvation Army has adopted nationally mandated safety protocols at Red Kettles.
  • Donate digitally with Apple Pay or Google Pay at any Red Kettle across the country.
  • Ask Amazon Alexa to donate by saying, "Alexa, donate to The Salvation Army," then specifying the amount.
  • Give any amount by texting "KETTLE" to 91999.
  • Donate physical gifts in bulk.
  • Adopt additional Angels to give hope and joy to kids and families in need through The Salvation Army's Angel Tree program.

Halftime Performance Announcement for Cowboys Thanksgiving Day Game

Academy of Country Music's Male Vocalist of the Year Thomas Rhett will perform LIVE at AT&T Stadium during the nationally televised halftime of the Dallas Cowboys game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thanksgiving Day, kicking off The Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle Campaign. Donations to the iconic campaign help provide shelter and meals for the homeless and hungry, and Christmas toys for millions of children, in addition to numerous other social service programs The Salvation Army provides year-round.

“Watching the Cowboys game is such a tradition on Thanksgiving Day,” said Thomas Rhett. “It's all about being together with family and friends, but this year is going to be a little different for us. I'm pumped that we get to pack up the whole family to go to Dallas for the halftime show...it's going to be blast and helping do it for a good cause makes it even better.”

“Thomas Rhett is not only a chart-topping country artist, but also a musician whose commitment and passion for philanthropy makes him a great fit to join the Fight for Good and kickoff the Red Kettle Campaign,” said Charlotte Jones Anderson, executive vice president and chief brand officer for the Cowboys and former national advisory chairperson for The Salvation Army.

The Red Kettle Campaign, which begins on Thanksgiving Day and runs through Christmas Eve, is the largest and longest-running fundraiser of its kind. It raised $147.3 million during the 2016 campaign alone and has raised nearly $2.2 billion since the Cowboys Thanksgiving Day partnership began in 1997.

“We are thankful for our partnership with the Dallas Cowboys, whose organization has continually provided us with incredible awareness during our most critical fundraising season,” said Lt. Col. Ron Busroe, national community relations and development secretary for The Salvation Army. “We celebrate their ongoing support, and what is sure to be a memorable kickoff performance.”

As the first country artist to top the all-genre Billboard 200 Album's chart this year, Thomas Rhett's star has continued to rise since the release of his debut album “It Goes Like This.” Currently the Academy of Country Music's Male Vocalist of the Year, his albums have also garnered GRAMMY, CMA, CMT, and iHeartRadio Music award nominations, including major wins for his love song “Die a Happy Man.” Thomas Rhett recently released his third album LIFE CHANGES and announced he will be bringing his signature swagger to his LIFE CHANGES TOUR 2018.

27th Annual Children’s Cancer Fund Luncheon Creates Fun Day for Pediatric Cancer Patients and Survivors

The annual Children’s Cancer Fund Luncheon is not your typical Dallas fundraising luncheon.  Not only does it raise critical funding for pediatric cancer research and programs at Children’s Medical Center, it also serves as a positive social-psychological experience for children undergoing cancer treatment.  With the help of area celebrities, sponsors, and a caring community, these children are given a fun day, away from hospitals and treatment.
Rowdy with Ella Lawless
Twenty-one young cancer patients from Children’s Medical Center selected an outfit donated by Dillard’s to model at the luncheon.  When they arrived at the Hilton Anatole Hotel the morning of the luncheon, they were paired with volunteer buddies, and spent the day backstage talking to celebrities, having fun with clowns and magicians, getting their hair done, taking pictures, coloring, eating lunch, and more.  They were joined by up to 100 more children who are all pediatric cancer survivors and who joined them for the grand finale of the fashion show, which featured music by Amber Carrington and Justin Rivers of NBC’s “The Voice.”
Event Co-Chair Roger Staubach with Micah Reed
This year’s guests included longtime Event Chairmen Roger Staubach, who has chaired the event for all 27 years, and Troy Aikman, who has co-chaired for the past 18 years.  Clarice Tinsley and Steve Eager served as mistress and master of ceremonies, and as the children took the runway with their escorts, they shared a little about each child with the audience.  For example: “Micah Reed, a 6th grader at Sulphur Springs Middle School, wants to be an oncologist and an artist when he grows up. His heroes are the U.S. military, past and present because they fight for our freedom.  He loves drawing, listening to music and writing, and is happy when his counts are good and he is not weak."
Jocelyn White, creator/host at Designing DFW with Julia Brown
Rhonda Sargent Chambers of RSC Productions produced the show. Celebrity escorts included Dallas Cowboys Brandon Carr, Morris Claiborne, and Terence Newman, along with Rowdy and Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.  Miss Texas America Monique Evans and Miss Texas Teen USA Chloe Kemble, joined a host of other celebrities and sponsors including Drew Pearson, Ray Johnston, Charles Haley, Steve Largent, Jason Castro, the Pink Heals Firefighters, Dallas SWAT Team, Queen Elsa and Cinderella, among others.
Courtney Kerr, fashion blogger and TV/Radio personality, with Luna Martell
Event Chairmen Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman kicked off the luncheon in the Chantilly Ballroom, introducing committee co-chairs Kathleen Strand and Cara Serber, who each have daughters who have had cancer.
Kathleen Strand told the audience, “There’s nothing that can every prepare you for the words, ‘I’m sorry, your child has cancer.’  And there’s almost nothing you can do to fix it or to help make sure your child gets better.  I stand her before you today, humbled by all of you, as your presence here helps us in our fight against pediatric cancer.”
Event Co-Chair Troy Aikman with Brady Pampillonia
Prior to the western-themed runway fashion show, a live auction was held, which included original artwork painted by children and Texas-based artist Christopher H. Martin.   Numerous other packages were also auctioned during this time.

With over $7 million in funds raised, since 1982, for pediatric cancer research, Children’s Cancer Fund continues to fund critical research while improving treatments for hundreds of children throughout the greater North Texas community,” said Luncheon Committee Co-Chair Cara Serber. “A significant amount of these funds are raised through this annual luncheon.
Miss Teen Texas Chloe Isabelle Kembel with Karla Salazar
Proceeds from this event go to Children’s Cancer Fund to help advance pediatric cancer research and treatment programs at Children’s Medical Center, benefiting children worldwide
