Jewish Family Service (JFS) of Greater Dallas will celebrate 75 years at Diamond Anniversary Gala

Jewish Family Service (JFS) of Greater Dallas will celebrate 75 years of serving the community with a Diamond Anniversary Gala on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Hilton Anatole Dallas, Trinity Ballroom.

Co-Chairs Lori and Mike Cohen, Ann and Michael Ochstein, Karla and Larry Steinberg, and Julie and Michael Zimmermann join Honorary Co-Chairs Sharon and Eric Goldberg, Ynette and Jim Hogue, Susie and Joel Litman, Stanley Rabin, Jackie and Steve Waldman, and Donald Zale along with JFS leadership in presenting this celebratory evening. Guests will enjoy entertainment by the Jordan Kahn Orchestra as well as dancing, food stations, an open bar, silent auction, and a luxury raffle.

“As we celebrate 75 years of impact in Dallas, we hope the community will join us in honoring and commemorating the impact of our health services, which focus on physical, emotional, nutritional, and financial well-being, at this festive affair,” said Cathy Barker, CEO, JFS. “While there will be a time to sit, eat, and enjoy a program and presentation, the party atmosphere will encourage guests to be out of their chairs, mingling, dancing to the music of the Jordan Kahn Orchestra, reviewing the silent auction, and more. This is a celebration!”

During the evening, JFS will pay tribute to those whose impact has been pivotal in the nonprofit’s mission to meet the community’s needs and its continued growth by recognizing past presidents and the gala’s co-chairs and honorary co-chairs, who also make up the capital campaign leadership team.

JFS is currently building a foundation for the next 75 years through its Meeting the Moment Capital Campaign, which will culminate with an early 2026 opening of the organization’s new 100,000-square-foot home, The Karla and Larry Steinberg building, located in Addison. From an expansive food pantry, career and financial services and family violence intervention to behavioral and medical services, JFS is one of the few nonprofits that provides comprehensive services under one roof.

“Join us for a fun, elegant evening as JFS celebrates decades of life-changing impact and service to our community and discover how you might help us shape the future,” added Barker. “We are excited to build upon this 75-year legacy and transform even more lives in the decades to come.”

Tickets for the JFS Diamond Anniversary Gala are $250 and are available at https://www.jfsgala75.com/.

Sponsors of the JFS Diamond Anniversary Gala are Title Sponsor Susser Bank and event sponsors American Airlines, Central Market, Sewell, and Texas Jewish Post.

Don’t miss Dallas’ most fabulous and fun luncheon

Featuring actress, producer and singer/songwriter Rita Wilson

Rita Wilson is a multi-talented singer/songwriter, actress and producer. Wilson’s music has been hailed as “inspiring” by Rolling Stone and “uplifting” by USA Today. She has toured the world over performing on such iconic stages as the Grand Ole Opry and The Sydney Opera, and marquee music festivals including CMA Fest and Stagecoach.

Her five acclaimed studio albums include her latest star-studded, "Rita Wilson Now & Forever: Duets” featuring Willie Nelson, Smokey Robinson, Jackson Browne, Tim McGraw, Elvis Costello, Keith Urban, Leslie Odom Jr, Josh Groban, Vince Gill and Jimmie Allen.

Wilson first donned her producers cap for the record-breaking box-office hit, My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Her instincts proved solid once again when she saw the theatrical production of Mamma Mia! in London shortly after it opened. Wilson’s love of ABBA’s music led her to secure the rights and develop the film, serving as a producer on the hit that starred Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, and as Executive Producer for its sequel, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! In 2019, Wilson received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame celebrating her rich and legendary film career and was later honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 2021.

The Chick Lit Luncheon is a powerful event regularly attended by more than 1,200 corporate sponsors, philanthropists, table hosts, media and other generous Dallasites to raise funds to support the operations of Community Partners of Dallas.

Forefront Living Foundation's Each Moment Matters Luncheon

Forefront Living Foundation is pleased to welcome Emmy-winning and Golden Globe-nominated actress, director, producer and New York Times bestselling author, Melissa Gilbert, as keynote speaker for the organization’s 13th annual Each Moment Matters Luncheon

As an active hospice advocate, with children’s hospice and palliative care being a cause especially dear to her heart, Ms. Gilbert decided to “dedicate my life to ensuring that all chronically and terminally-ill children get to live and die with gentleness, dignity and the grace that they deserve.”

Ms. Gilbert’s work in hospice advocacy includes service as Board President for the Children’s Hospice and Palliative Care Coalition and President of the Coalition for Compassionate Care of California. Ms. Gilbert is also a past recipient of the Humanitarian Leadership Award, bestowed by the National Hospice Foundation, for her work on behalf of children facing life-limiting conditions.

“I believe the transition from life to the next life should be as revered and celebrated as the transition in, and birth. It’s part of the human experience and it’s something we need to teach people not to be afraid of. Because it’s going to happen and we have to find a way to make it gentle,” Gilbert shares.

This signature fundraising event, to be held on Friday, Sept. 23, 2022, at the Hilton Anatole, benefits the Faith Presbyterian Hospice Caring Fund (The Caring Fund), supporting benevolent care for unfunded patients, children’s bereavement services and specialized services known as the Faith Difference, including music therapy, massage therapy and pet therapy. Through generous donor support, more than $650,000 was raised at last year’s luncheon.

Co-Chairs Tucker Enthoven and Julie Ford

Co-chairing this year’s luncheon are Tucker Enthoven and her mother, Julie Ford, both notable members of the Dallas community. In addition to being accomplished philanthropic volunteers, this compassionate mother/daughter duo share a personal connection to Faith Presbyterian Hospice due to their joint care of a close family friend.

Dak Prescott Keynote’s Metrocare 13th Annual Meal for the Minds Luncheon

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Metrocare held their 13th Annual Meal for the Minds Luncheon on Tuesday May 10th at the Hilton Anatole.

During this event over 300 guests gathered as NBC 5’s Laura Harris engaged in a conversation about the importance of mental health resources with Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott. Since the tragic loss of his youngest brother, Prescott has become a champion in the mental health space, going so far as to start his own foundation Faith, Fight, Finish, which prioritizes mental health in an attempt to end the epidemic of suicide.

“During the COVID pandemic, I lost my brother, Jace, to suicide. Though nothing can ever bring Jace back, I’ve made a promise that his will be ‘a life taken to save millions.’ I’m fiercely determined to champion those who battle mental illness by helping them to always know they are not alone, find their purpose and realize that their lives matter!”

Business leaders, elected officials, and concerned community partners listened as Prescott
shared his personal stories and insight into his struggles with mental health, leaving the
audience captivated by his courage and determination.

Hilary Swank Inspires Attendees at Genesis Women's Shelter & Support Annual Luncheon

Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support held its 25th Annual Luncheon on Friday, May 11, 2018, at the Hilton Anatole, featuring Academy Award-winning actress Hilary Swank as keynote speaker. More than 1,500 people came together to take a stand on behalf of women and children who have experienced domestic violence, and to let the community know that there is help and there is hope.

Interviewed by WFAA health and wellness reported Sonia Azad, Hilary Swank spoke with authenticity and passion about the pervasiveness of domestic violence. “It could be any of us, but no woman expects it to be her,” she remarked. Swank shared that, on a fundamental level, all people want to love and be loved. “Having someone you can trust is so important,” she said. “It’s why Genesis is changing lives. These women have the faith and the courage to break the pattern of violence and to say ‘no more.’”

Co-Chairs Jane & Michael Hurst, Keynote Speaker Hilary Swank, and Jan Langbein, CEO of Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support

Adding clothing designer to her stellar list of accomplishments, Swank started her clothing line, Mission Statement, to merge high-performance with high-fashion for the perfect balance of movement. She encouraged all women to live their own personal mission statements. "I made it a personal mission to make sure that nobody felt like they didn't belong,” Swank said. “We all belong. We are given an opportunity to learn and grow and find like-minded people to share the journey."

Luncheon Co-Chairs Jane and Michael Hurst welcomed the near-capacity crowd with stirring opening remarks. “Over 180,000 incidents of domestic violence are reported in Texas every year,” Michael Hurst shared. “Today, we stand with nearly 1,600 men and women in this room who have decided that we will be a woman’s first step away from abuse,” he concluded.

Rev. Dr. Sheron Patterson, Senior Pastor of Hamilton Park United Methodist Church, then gave the invocation using her signature, extended “amen” shout.

While attendees enjoyed a delicious lunch of mandarin orange and strawberry salad, crispy stuffed chicken with orzo, and dark chocolate mousse cake or berry tart, Jane and Michael spoke about how they became involved with Genesis because they want to raise their teenage son and daughter to know what healthy relationships look like. “As a mom of teenagers, like I’m sure every other mom would be, I am deeply concerned with the statistics facing boys and girls when it comes to domestic violence. It is for our children’s safety that we stand here today committed to being a woman’s first step away from abuse,” Jane stated.

Jane and Michael also recognized the 2018 Jane Doe Award recipient, Legal Aid of Northwest Texas for their work providing high-quality civil legal representation to low-income families, including clients of Genesis who have little to no access to resources due to financial abuse.

Genesis HeROs Board President, Crayton Webb, implored gentle men in the room to say that, when it comes to ending violence against women, “count us in.” He recognized the 2018 HeRO Award recipient, the Honorable Roberto Cañas, who presides over Dallas County Criminal Court #10 – one of only six U.S. Department of Justice Domestic Violence Mentor Courts in the country. Cañas was also honored for his efforts to save lives by enforcing a gun surrender program that keeps guns out of the hands of abusers.

Genesis CEO Jan Langbein spoke about the graduate-level course on the issues of sexual harassment and sexual assault this country has received from countless women who have come forward to say #MeToo over the past year. “These movements have given silenced victims both a voice and encouragement, allowing solidarity with millions of others who have experienced the same. Where there was once isolation by design, there is now a national community of support through social media, giving women the courage to come out of the dark and into the light,” she remarked.

Luncheon guests arrived into the sunshine yellow springtime of the Anatole’s Chantilly Ballroom filled with arrangements of yellow tulips and white peonies from The Garden Gate florist. Yellow tissue paper peeked out of gift bags for every guest, thanks to beauty sponsor Mary Kay Inc. Dramatic panels featuring the Genesis logo in lemon yellow stood behind white flowery trees that flanked the stage, and bobbing white balloons signified volunteers circulating the room selling raffle tickets for four tempting packages.
