In informal remarks, Steve Lieberman thanked Pat and Emmitt for using their “extraordinary talents and their superstar status” to help local kids through their works with the Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities (PESC). In 2013, PESC distributed over $400,000 to 47 charities predominantly in North Texas.

Emmitt also announced the inaugural Emmitt Smith Golf Challenge, consisting of several regional events scheduled at top-rated ClubCorp courses throughout the U.S., where winning players and top fundraisers will win a variety of prizes plus the opportunity to advance (or attend) the May 9-10 festivities in Dallas.
Emmitt Smith, Pat Smith

Pat expressed her gratitude, calling the event a “journey for us” that has grown from a small golf tournament to an event that benefited 47 agencies and 35,000 children last year. She recognized top-level sponsors, including Title Sponsor SoftLayer (at the $100,000 level). At the $50,000 level, Presenting Sponsors are Albertson’s (for the Friday night event) and American Airlines (for the Saturday golf tournament and as the official Airline Sponsor). In addition, event sponsors at the $25,000 level were recognized -- Dallas Healthy Aging Institute, Cigna, Waste Management Brown-Forman and G Wear. New Methodist Health Trauma Care Entrance to Bear Name of Dr. Bob and Jean Smith Foundation

The Methodist Health System mission to improve and save lives through compassionate quality health care received a major boost  with the announcement of a $1 million grant from the Dr. Bob and Jean Smith Foundation to the Methodist Health System Foundation. The funds will be used in the construction of the Charles A. Sammons Tower, the future home of emergency, trauma, and critical care services at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. In appreciation for its support, the entrance to the new trauma care center will bear the name of the Dr. Bob and Jean Smith Foundation.

“We are pleased to support the vital work being done by Methodist to address the growing emergency care needs of our region,” says Sally Smith Mashburn, foundation president and treasurer and daughter of Dr. Bob and Jean Smith. “The Charles A. Sammons Tower will benefit thousands of individuals and families in the years to come and the Dr. Bob and Jean Smith Foundation is proud to be a part of such a significant endeavor.”

Supporters 'Joined the Fight' with Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County at Annual Luncheon

More than 400 attendees braved the snowy weather and arrived at Embassy Suites in Frisco on February 6th to "Join the Fight" at the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County Luncheon.  Keynote Speaker Darrell Hammond of SNL fame spoke with genuine and raw emotion as he recounted his own childhood filled with abuse.  Its lasting marks were almost felt by the attendees in the room.  Darrell fought back tears on several occasions as he described his reality.

"Join the Fight" Keynote Speaker Darrell Hammond
“Darrell’s story provided all our luncheon attendees with the opportunity to hear first-hand the long term effects of child abuse on a person’s life," Event Chair Carolyn Speece recalled. "He was the living, breathing example of why our Center exists. He spoke directly to the heart when he said, ‘I didn’t have a children’s advocacy center.’ His story reminded all of us how important it is to look again, to ask questions, to make sure children are safe and protected.” Darrell Hammond and Event Chair Carolyn Speese
Attendee and CACCC Supporter Susan Spindler added, “I could have listened to him for hours. What an amazing story.”
Joan Slater, another attendee, said “(Darrell’s story) was dark, but abuse is dark. This was so much better than just listening to someone up on stage giving statistics. No one could walk away thinking that the effects of abuse go away when someone moves away from home. The luncheon was a gift I will never forget.”

Now community support and fundraising efforts turn to CACCC's Annual Gala on April 12th at The Hilton Anatole with Grammy Award winning performers Huey Lewis and the News. More details to follow.
