The Junior League of Dallas Presents: "Casino in Casablanca"

Round up the usual suspects! Join the Junior League of Dallas on Friday, November 12 at the iconic Hall of State in Fair Park for the 14th annual Auction and Casino Party. This year, we are celebrating Africa, and what better way than with a nod to the famous Ricks Café from the 1942 classic Casablanca!

Our fabulous casino features the JLD favorites blackjack, craps, and Texas Hold’em, and will include a “Spin-It-to-Win-It” roulette wheel; you will also have the option to purchase additional chips throughout the night so you may enjoy “Vegas-style” betting the entire evening.

Browse through our Souq, a North African Market, and bid on treasures like gorgeous hand-made jewelry; a designer handbag from Marin Hopper, daughter of Dennis Hopper; and fabulous trips. You can also try your luck at winning your own “Hope” or “Tiffany” in our Diamond Dig where one winner walks away with a real diamond. And, of course, there’s the Mystery Bag where every bag has treasures to be found.

The evening’s menu offers authentic Moroccan cuisine created by Executive Chef Joseph Oldham of Food Glorious Food. Indulge yourself on lamb tagine, shrimp pizzettes, or beef kefta – or sample the gorgeous pastilla. Desserts, with ingredients such as honey and rosewater, are also sure to delight.

Best of all, our Auction and Casino Party raises money for the JLD’s Community Service Fund, which supports the nonprofit agencies in the League’s six Issue Areas: Arts and Cultural Enrichment, Family Preservation, Health, Poverty Intervention, and Violence Prevention.

Don’t miss what is sure to be the fall event in Dallas. Until then, “Here’s looking at you, kid.”

The Ritz Honors The Rangers

Any excuse is a good excuse when it comes to a celebration and fantastic perks at The Ritz. Especially, if the reason is a first time World Series appearance for our Rangers! The Ritz- Carlton, Dallas has planned the perfect weekend for our baseball buffs and fair- weather fans to enjoy during this monumental time in Texas sports fan history. From complimentary spa gifts to specialized restaurant menus, there's something here for everyone to take a swing at and really have a ball!

-Everyone who arrives at The Ritz- Carlton, Dallas to check in from October 31- November 1, donning Rangers apparel, will receive a certificate for one complimentary breakfast. The best part? You are given the choice to enjoy your breakfast in- room or at Fearing's Restaurant!

So what's on deck?

-Next up we have the "squadron of baseball concierges." The Ritz will train its team of concierges to answer any and all questions about the series so when you stray away from the nearest flat screen for a meal or massage, you can remain caught up, and really keep your head in the game.

Batting third will be the Fearing's Restaurant "Claw and Antlers" combo:

-Two American Kobe beef hot dog choices, "The Claw" and “The Antler,” will enliven a craze which has recently taken the American League-West by storm. “Claw and Antlers” took hold as an in-house gesture among players and has newly captured the imagination of baseball lovers everywhere. Should a Texas Ranger make a positive offensive play, he will note the feat with a "claw," fingers curled with his arm extended in an upward curve. The "antlers" -- with both hands held open above the ears to mimic a deer – will come into play after a speed-related player feat, such as a fast run between bases or into home plate. Rangers’ utility player Esteban German launched this hand-signal trend while playing Triple A baseball in Oklahoma City last season. At Fearing’s, the Claw is a Chicago-style hot dog with sweet relish, pickled serrano peppers, sliced tomato, chopped onion, and yellow mustard, while the Antler is a chili dog featuring chopped onions, shredded cheddar cheese, and yellow mustard. In a further nod to baseball fans this weekend, Fearing’s will honor visitors from San Francisco with a house cioppino inspired by northern California’s fresh seafood delicacies.

-And fourth in our line- up as our clean up power player is the World Series Wind- Down Massage. The award winning spa is giving away special gifts to each client who stops in for a 50 minute massage that can be enjoyed after a complimentary Texas or California beer. Talk about a home run!

So act fast, get quick on your toes, and slide in to steal a reservation at The Ritz- Carlton, Dallas for a relaxing and fun weekend in celebration of the Rangers' first World Series!
