One Arts Plaza Fall Block Party

One Arts Plaza will host its third annual Fall Block Party this Sunday, October 14 from 12-4 pm as part of the Dallas Arts District’s Art in October Celebration.

The Plaza will be closed off for pedestrian-only traffic where guests can enjoy food demonstrations from foodie favorites Tei-An, Fedora and Jorge’s along with newcomers The Greek and Café Des Artistes. Don’t miss the infamous Cocktail Competition at 1 pm with local celebrity judges CultureMap Dallas editor Jennifer Chinnis, Dallas’ Most Eligible cast member and Paws In The City activist Tara Harper, Mike Hiller, editor of the popular food, wine and restaurant site EscapeHatchDallas, America’s Sassiest Lifestyle Guru Steve Kemble and social media strategist, southern belle and blogger Cynthia Smoot.

Seventeen local food and gift vendors, such as The Feather Junkie, Kruffles Dallas, Noble Coyote Coffee Roasters, Pop Star Popsicles and Three Dog Barkery, will set up shop around the plaza for adults, kids and dogs alike. The Southland Swing Band will provide a jazzy soundtrack all afternoon. Special thanks to floral sponsor, Gro Designs.

Paws In The City, DFW Rescue Me and Greyhound Adoption League of Texas will also be on hand featuring pet adoptions and information. Be sure to bring your four legged friends for a Halloween Costume Contest at 3 pm!

Host, model, actress and Dallas local LeeAnne Locken will serve as emcee for this fun-filled fall celebration.

Admission is free and open to the public.



Form Follows Fitness 5K

Dallas Center for Architecture’s (DCFA) inaugural run/walk that encourages fitness will proudly feature some of the highest-quality architecture and public art that Dallas has to offer along its course.

The 5K will take place on Saturday, February 25 and will begin at One Arts Plaza, located at the intersection of Flora Street and Maple Avenue in the Dallas Arts District, at 10:00 am. For those who prefer a shorter distance, there will also be a 1K available at 9:30 am. Registration will begin at 8:00 am and participants will have the option to partake in an organized, fun warm-up at 9:15 am.

Registration as an individual or team is available online at FormFollowsFitness.com. Adults ages 19 and over will pay a fee of $25 for early registration; $30 during race week or $35 on race day. Children ages 18 and under will pay a fee of $15 for early registration; $20 during race week or $25 on race day.

The 5K route will take participants, including corporate teams, by some of the most inspiring structures that have been built in Dallas over the last quarter century. For those who would like to walk, there will be a guided tour so participants can learn as they exercise.

The event will include views of buildings designed by internationally recognized architects that have been awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize for their career-long contributions. These architects include: Sir Norman Foster, Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House; I.M. Pei, Fountain Place and Morton H Meyerson Symphony Hall; Rem Koolhaus, Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre; Renzo Piano, Nasher Sculpture Garden; Philip Johnson, The Crescent and Thom Mayne, the under-construction Perot Museum of Nature and Science.

In addition to the main event, the restaurants at One Arts Plaza along with other sponsors will be providing food and drink specials. A live band and other activities will offer various sorts of entertainment for exercisers and fans alike.

If you enjoy music, you cannot miss FLYINGHORSE 2011 Performance Festival benefiting Booker T. Washington Performing Arts High School. The line-up is magnificent. Former Booker T. Washington alum, Erykah Badu will be the first performer, followed by The NOLA Hot Damn Second-Line Stage Revue and Dance with some hot, hot names, such as Kermit Ruffins, Chermaine Neville, and more!

You can begin your evening by touring the highly recognized school and watching the students while they are truly in their element. After that, let the performance begin at One Arts Plaza. Dallas is so lucky to have such an amazing public arts high school in the heart of the city -- it is recognized as one of the top three schools in the country. Buy a ticket for a night of fun!

One Arts Plaza will host a Fall Block Party this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free event will feature live cooking demonstrations from each of the One Arts Plaza restaurants, art exhibits, farmer's market vendors and a variety of live musical performances throughout the afternoon.
