National MS Society On the Move Luncheon to Feature Country Music Artist

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society will host the 8th Annual On the Move Luncheon at the Ritz-Carlton Dallas on Friday, October 10 from 11:30am-1:00pm. The annual luncheon, which raises funds and awareness for multiple sclerosis will feature Country Music Artist Julie Roberts. Diagnosed with MS at the age of 27, Roberts is building awareness of the disease through National MS Society events. Additionally, she donated a portion of sales from her latest album to the Society to support research and programs to help people living with MS.
Having already spent much of her life singing and performing, Roberts first stepped into the national spotlight with 2004’s self-titled debut album. Fueled by the top 20 Country smash, “Break Down Here,” “JULIE ROBERTS” quickly earned RIAA gold for sales in excess of 500,000, as well as a plethora of critical praise.

Roberts took a brief hiatus from music to recharge her batteries and confront a number of personal challenges. She returned stronger than ever with 2011’s “ALIVE” and the “WHO NEEDS MISTLETOE?” holiday EP, both released via her own independent Ain’t Skeerd Records.  Now, with the imminent release of “GOOD WINE AND BAD DECISIONS,” Roberts is eagerly anticipating a full-scale return to the road.

Serving as Honorary Chair for this year’s luncheon is Mrs. Suzanne Robertson with current event sponsors including Novartis Pharmaceuticals, Gold Metal Recyclers and Nothing Bundt Cakes – Dallas.

On the Move is a nationwide program created to raise funds and awareness for multiple sclerosis. Each year, On the Move luncheons bring men and women together to encourage people to give from the heart to support their family members, friends and colleagues whose lives are touched by MS and educate communities about multiple sclerosis.

Sponsorships, individual tickets and tables are available at onthemovetx.org; ticket purchase is required to attend the luncheon.

For additional information about the luncheon, please visit onthemovetx.org or contact Shannon Nelson at 469-619-4704 or TXMSLuncheon@nmss.org.

Dallas CASA Cherish the Children Luncheon

The Dallas CASA Children’s Council is pleased to announce author, actor and violence prevention advocate Victor Rivas Rivers as the 2013 keynote speaker at the Cherish the Children spring luncheon. The luncheon takes place at 11 a.m. on May 15 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Dallas and benefits Dallas CASA, an organization that serves abused and neglected children.

Raised in a violent home, Rivers went to the local police department to report a lifetime of crime inflicted upon himself, his mother and his siblings. Though the officers were horrified, they could do little to stop Rivers' father. The torture that took place within the family’s home was "a private family matter,” according to police. Finally, at age 15, Rivers took then-unprecedented legal action against his father which finally allowed Rivers to enter the foster care system.

A series of foster parents, teachers and caring advocates oversaw Rivers’ transformation from rage-filled gang member to senior class president and later an NFL football player and Hollywood actor. He details his extraordinary story of survival in his memoir “A Private Family Matter.” Attendees will have the chance to meet Rivers and hear his personal story as he encourages the Dallas community to take a stand against family violence and help child victims of abuse and neglect by supporting Dallas CASA.

“Victor Rivas Rivers will share his tremendous personal story of enduring a childhood full of severe physical and emotional abuse,” luncheon chair Lauren Maggard said. “I hope Victor’s story will raise awareness of how CASA volunteer advocates are truly needed in order to provide voices and hope for abused and neglected children living in foster care.”
Past Junior League of Dallas Project Chairs for Dallas CASA are the event’s Honorary Chairs. For more than 20 years, Junior League Project Chairs have served on the Dallas CASA Board of Directors and coordinated the efforts of Junior League members serving as CASA volunteer advocates.

The highlight of Cherish the Children is the fabulous children's chairs and other furniture displayed and sold at the luncheon.
On an average day in Dallas County, more than 2,000 abused and neglected children like Anna live in foster care because they cannot live safely at home. These children need powerful voices to speak for them. That’s where CASA comes in. CASA volunteers make recommendations that help judges decide what is best for each child. Sadly, less than half of the children in protective care in Dallas County have a CASA voice in court. The Cherish the Children luncheon raises critically-needed funds to recruit and train volunteer advocates who help ensure that abused and neglected children are safe, healthy and protected with loving families.

Luncheon tickets and tables are available for $150-$500.

Tracy is now the mother of two, and her husband Bryan is a successful businessman. Says Tracy, "The devil cannot make you ashamed of things you give God the glory for bringing you through. I am not ashamed about anything in my life, because if you are delivered from it and you give God the glory, then you are laughing in the devil’s face."Gloria Campos and her son Gregory Brown

Friends of Wednesday’s Child (formerly Wednesday’s Child Benefit Corporation) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1984 when volunteers recognized there is no child needier than a foster child.
