Red Cross Japan

Justin and I just returned from an amazing trip to East Asia that included a few days in Tokyo, Japan.  I was so taken with the Japanese people and their friendly charm and grace.  I loved seeing the flags of the Red Cross and Japan hanging side by side on almost every lamp post in the city. As a board member for the American Red Cross in Dallas, I was so excited to catch an exhibit about Empress Shoken and the Red Cross.  She was a revered Empress who dedicated her life to caring for others in need and she established the Red Cross in Japan over 100 years ago with a donation equivalent to about 33 million dollars.  The Empress Shoken Fund continues to keep the Red Cross alive in Japan today.   The exhibit was fantastic! Plunge Into Summer Safely with American Red Cross

As we are all very well aware, it is hot, hot, hot here in Dallas! The best way to cool down (other than sitting in front of your air conditioner) is to cool off in the water. Swimming is the most popular summer pastime, but everyone knows you must be very safe in and around the water. Enroll in their Learn-to-Swim classes for all ages. While you are at it, take a CPR course or one on babysitting. The Red Cross has so many wonderful classes that can be taken online or at one of their branches. Better to be safe than sorry and enjoy the summer.

I am so thrilled to share that we sold over 3000 Red Cross Red Velvet Cupcakes and raised over $10,500 for the Red Cross Dallas Area Chapter through Sprinkles last week!  Thank you so much to everyone who showed up and enjoyed the sweet treats for a great cause!

The Red Cross' Holiday Cards for Heroes Campaign

As you know, disasters can happen anytime and holidays are no exception. Just since Thanksgiving Day, the Red Cross in Dallas has already been on the curb with nearly 100 people who were burned out by home fires. 

The dedicated disaster response teams are prepared to meet challenges such as this and understand how lives can be turned upside down in an instant by a home fire, a natural disaster or other tragedy. But to do what they do best they need the resources of food, supplies and emergency housing that your contributions make possible. Thank you so much for being there for these families this Holiday season, who are standing on the curb in this cold weather afraid and have nowhere to go. Because of you, the Red Cross is able to help. To make sure that your family is safe for Holiday home fires, check out our website for holiday fire safety tips here. Thank you!

The Red Cross is wrapping up their Holiday Cards for Heroes campaign where with over 7,000 cards signed by our community that will be sent to soldiers. They just received some holiday cards back from a Rockwall neighborhood and I just had to share with you a few of my favorites from the cards that the precious children wrote (In their true spelling!):
