12th Annual Corporate Cup Golf Tournament Benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas

The 12th Annual Corporate Cup benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas (BGCD) will, once again, take place at the exclusive Dallas National Golf Club on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. 100% of the proceeds from the tournament will go directly to BGCD, which will provide the opportunity to impact the lives of our members through after-school programing.

The day will include an 18-hole traditional golf tournament, to be followed by a cocktail hour, awards presentation and Q&A session with a special guest (TBD). 

The 2016 Corporate Cup tournament raised more than $300,000, ranking it high on the Dallas Business Journal’s list of North Texas charity golf tournaments in terms of net proceeds from total revenue. Due to the success, Corporate Cup is able to provide funding to further the BGCD’s effective and impactful programs, such as Academic Success and Collegiate STEPS.

Chevy Brings Snow to Dallas Kids for Surprise Holiday Celebration

It was a snowy afternoon in Dallas yesterday as Chevrolet surprised hundreds of children at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas by converting their Mesquite, TX Club into a “Pop-Up North Pole.” The event featured real snow, sledding, cookie decorating, winter-themed games, and other festive activities to provide a fun and memorable holiday experience for children.

 

Chevrolet and Boys & Girls Clubs pulled off the ultimate holiday surprise by transforming the children’s afterschool facility into an unexpected and true Winter Wonderland. Over 200 children from the Dallas area, ranging in age from 6 to18, jumped off the school bus into a snowy playground for the afternoon.

 

Santa and Mrs. Claus were also there to hear kids’ holiday wish lists, and each child in attendance received a special gift provided by Chevrolet.

 

“Chevrolet wanted to do something unique this holiday season to give back to the Dallas community,” said Grant Lindsay, Chevrolet Spokesperson, Dallas. “At its core, Chevrolet has the same ‘never give up’ spirit that Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas instills in the children they work with, and we were thrilled to give them a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

 

Chevrolet has a rich history in the State of Texas and specifically in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The brand is invested in the Dallas community, by collaborating with local organizations like the Boys & Girls Club.

On Wednesday, November 12, 2014, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas (BGCD) hosted its Inaugural Great Futures Luncheon at the Hilton Anatole Hotel. More than 700 guests braved the cold to show their support for the BGCD and hear featured speaker and former Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice.

The Luncheon, presented by Once Upon a Time Foundation, formally launched the first Center for a New Generation (CNG) program in Texas. Co-founded by Dr. Condoleezza Rice, CNG is an innovative academic and enrichment after-school and summer program that allows the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas to integrate schools represented in the Dallas Independent School District Feeder Pattern and Uplift.

Michele Wheeler, president and COO of Jackson-Shaw, and George S. Watson, president of Steelecreek Management, were the Luncheon Co-chairs. During the Luncheon, BGCD also kicked- off the Great Futures Campaign with a goal of raising $1.5 million dollars to fund the CNG initiative and other BGCD programs.

Dr. Wright L. Lassiter Jr. opened the luncheon by giving the invocation and welcoming Charles English, president & CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas to the stage. Charles greeted guests and thanked them for supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas. He then formally announced the new partnership with Center for a New Generation, which is the first CNG in Texas and the 4th in the nation.

As guests enjoyed lunch, a touching video played featuring families and individuals who were positively impacted by the opportunities and support of BGCD. Throughout the Luncheon, the audience also enjoyed musical performances from the Dunbar Elementary Choir, the James Madison High School Concert Choir and Bianca McClure, a Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas Alumna who impressed the audience with the violin.

Dr. Condoleezza Rice kept the room engaged with her sincere passion for today’s youth. Dr. Rice stressed how critical it is that every child has a chance and went on to say, “it does not matter where you come from; it matters where you are going.” Rice also talked about the importance of developing children’s minds and how Center for a New Generation can do that by providing a world of art and culture. Dr. Rice received a standing ovation as she exited the stage.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas Celebrate Great Futures at Patron Party

On Tuesday, October 28, 2014, Kathy and Harlan Crow welcomed guests into their Highland Park estate for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas (BGCD) Inaugural Great Futures Luncheon Patron Party.

Guests filled the Crows’ remarkable library and had the opportunity to view one of the largest private American collections while enjoying an impressive display of hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and wine.

The evening also included a short presentation, which was kicked off by Charles English, president of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas. English graciously thanked the luncheon sponsors and reminded them that their contributions are helping to develop the “mind, body and soul” of each student and expand Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas.

Watson stated, “Many at-risk children have found a home at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas, and we are ecstatic that CNG will give the members an unparalleled opportunity to explore fine arts.” He then went on to say that, “77 percent of BGCD members make A’s and B’s.”

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas 9th Annual Corporate Cup

On Tuesday, October 7, 2014, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas (BGCD) hosted its 9th Annual Corporate Cup golf tournament, presented by Kimberly-Clark Corporation.

 

The event was held at Dallas National Golf Club, and raised more than $194,459. 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas, which strives to impact the lives of its members through after-school programming.

The day included an 18-hole traditional golf tournament, and at the conclusion of the tournament, “Cool Kids,” which are Boys & Girls Club members, greeted the players with many thanks for their support and handed them cold water and towels. Following the tournament, golfers enjoyed a cocktail hour and dinner while the judges tallied up the winners.

Boys and Girls Club of Greater Dallas Congratulates Regional "Youth of the Year" Winner

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas is thrilled to announce, Cecilia Garza as the Boys & Girls Club Southwest Regional Youth of the Year (YOY) winner. This program celebrates youth who have overcome enormous odds and demonstrated exceptional character and accomplishments.  Garza competed against Boys & Girls Club YOY contestants from Wyoming, Colorado, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Montana, New Mexico and Kansas, while representing Texas at the regional level.

 

Previously, Garza won the 2014 Dallas Youth of the Year scholarship sponsored by Coca-Cola and the State of Texas Youth of the Year Award Competition in Austin. Through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas (BGCD), she also 

received the David Blackwell scholarship sponsored by Michael George for $15,000. She is now advancing in the competition to compete in September against five other regional winners in Washington, D.C. for the National Youth of the Year title, which is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Clubs member can achieve. This gives her opportunity to win up to $61,000 in additional college scholarships.

 

Garza has been an active member of BGCD for nearly four years participating in a variety

of BGCD rograms such as: SMART Girls, Collegiate STEPS and Career Launch. In keeping with her tenacious spirit of giving back, she established an Interact Club at her school during her senior year -- to teach high school students the importance of giving back, especially in time of need.  

 

The future looks very promising for Cecilia as she looks forward to attending Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.  With a goal of becoming a neurosurgeon, she plans on majoring in biochemistry and then entering medical school. She also dreams of one day using her education to benefit others through organizations such as Doctors Without Borders.

Sonny Bryan's "It's In The Sauce" Competition on April 5th Benefits Four Local Non-Profits

Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse invites you to the legendary barbecue restaurant's first-ever 'It's in the Sauce' competition, a flavorful fundraiser to benefit four local non-profit organizations. Chefs Dean Fearing, JP Mancha, Kent Rathbun, and Tre Wilcox will each create a one-of-a-kind barbecue dish using Sonny Bryan's signature barbecue sauce live during the event at South Side on Lamar on Saturday, April 5, from 11:30 am to 1 pm.

 

The participating charities include Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dallas, March of Dimes, North Texas Food Bank and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Barbecue-lovers and spectators alike can purchase a ticket in advance at sonnybryans.com and at the door for $20. Attendees can then sample all four creations and cast a vote by placing their ticket in their favorite's ballot box. Each vote also adds a $20 donation to the chef's chosen charity, but the non-profit represented by each chef will not be revealed until all votes are cast. The chef who receives the most tickets will receive an additional $5,000 from Sonny Bryan’s Smokehouse for the charity of his choice.

We proudly announce the inception of a new foundation here in the Metroplex, a collaborative effort among three of the most successful providers of youth development services: Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas, and Phoenix Houses of Texas. These three service organizations are piloting an integrated program of their services at three Dallas schools, creating after-school programming that serves the whole child cost-effectively with best-in-class services from each organization.

Currently, 84% of DISD students are economically disadvantaged, and more than 100,000 students in the community are unsupervised after school every day.
