VOLUNTEERING LOOKS GOOD ON YOU

Join Dallas volunteers from all over to serve neighbors experiencing poverty and homelessness.

Dallas community members will come together April 19–25, 2026, for Love Your Neighbor Week, a citywide volunteer initiative hosted by The Stewpot.

The week features more than 650 service opportunities across Dallas, including meal service, food pantry support and outreach programs. Special highlights include a Neighbor Talent Show on April 23 and a family-friendly All Ages Volunteer Day on April 25.

Volunteer activities take place at The Stewpot, The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center, First Presbyterian Church of Dallas and additional sites.

“Living in Harmony” is the theme of next year’s luncheon which features keynote speaker Hailee Kaleem Wright, an actor, singer and songwriter currently starring in Moulin Rouge on Broadway. Raised in Houston, Hailee experienced homelessness at a young age and shares her journey to become a Broadway star. With philanthropy at the heart of her mission, Hailee continues to use her platform to uplift and inspire the next generation.

 

Proceeds from the luncheon benefit The Stewpot, which celebrated a 50-year milestone in 2025. The Stewpot loves and serves our Dallas neighbors, helping them overcome homelessness and poverty by providing breakfast, lunch and dinner, counseling and case management, rapid rehousing, medical and dental services via onsite partners, youth and family stabilization programs, as well as therapeutic and vocational activities.

As always, some of Dallas’ finest chefs are invited to join Chef Brian C. Luscher of 33 Restaurant Group, the force behind popular restaurant concepts including Suburban Yacht Club, Union Bear and Taverna Rossa to prepare the first course of the meal. 

This year’s roster of celebrity chefs includes Jeff Bekavac, Goodwins; J. Chastain, Sister, El Carlos Elegante and The Charles; Omar Flores, Casa Brasa, Even Coast and Muchacho Tex-Mex; Danyele McPherson, Leela’s Wine Bar; Misti Norris, Rainbow Cat and Leela’s Wine Bar; Janice Provost, Parigi; Anastasia Quiñones Pittman, Oh Hi! Hospitality; Jeramie Robison, Thompson Dallas and Abraham Salum of Salum.

Each guest will also take home a commemorative soup bowl featuring artwork from The Stewpot artists and will have the opportunity to view and purchase one-of-a-kind pieces of art crafted by artists in The Stewpot Art Program as well as a book of recipes.

Patrons and volunteers of The Stewpot Alliance Soup’s On Luncheon and Art Sale recently gathered for a soiree at The African American Museum in Fair Park to celebrate the success of the 17th annual fundraiser held in January.

Celebrity chef chair Brian C. Luscher also recognized the vital importance of the services provided by The Stewpot, especially during the current “arctic blast.”

While below freezing temperatures are a life-or-death situation for those living on the streets, and The Stewpot team shared that their team was actively working with neighbors to find transportation and shelter in Fair Park out of the frigid air. The Stewpot staff were on the streets handing out cold-weather gear such as coats, hats, gloves and hand warmers to help everyone stay safe.

Since its founding in 1975 to feed people on the streets downtown, The Stewpot has served more than 8.7 million meals. It has also grown to provide comprehensive services and a community of support for people experiencing poverty and homelessness, including programs that stabilize, house and enrich the lives of Dallas neighbors. These include helping people recover over 112,000 vital ID documents to access services and employment, funding 233 four-year scholarships for college or vocational school since 1991 and helping provide housing for 320 people since its rapid rehousing program began in 2021.

17th annual Soup’s On Luncheon and Art Show

Nearly 700 attendees gathered at the 17th annual Soup’s On Luncheon and Art Show benefiting The Stewpot, held at Thompson Dallas on Monday, January 27. Co-chairing the annual fundraising event hosted by The Stewpot Alliance benefiting The Stewpot were Dallas community leaders Buddy Jordan and Isabell and Philip Higginbotham. WFAA anchor Cynthia Izaguirre emceed the luncheon. Since 2008, Soup’s On has raised more than $5 million for homeless and at-risk individuals in Dallas. The Stewpot is a ministry of First Presbyterian Church of Dallas (FPC Dallas).

The event featured an art show including 100 curated pieces of original art created by 22 artists from The Stewpot Art Program, soups by 10 local celebrity chefs, and an inspiring message from luncheon speaker Nicholas Kristof, all thoughtfully woven together in celebration of The Stewpot’s 50th anniversary. Soup’s On served as a kickoff for a year full of celebrating “50 Years of Loving Our Neighbors” and highlighting The Stewpot’s long tradition of love in action.

Featured speaker Nicholas Kristof, a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and best-selling author, captivated the audience and praised the Dallas community and The Stewpot’s progress in helping people rise above poverty and homelessness. Kristof led the guests to sing “Happy Birthday” in celebration of the nonprofit's 50th anniversary. He applauded The Stewpot in helping Dallas reduce unsheltered homelessness by 24%.

“Drops in the buckets – that’s how you fill buckets. That’s how you change the world,” Kristof said during his inspirational remarks.

Brenda Snitzer, executive director of The Stewpot, addressed that the nonprofit has outgrown its space and programs have tripled in size. FPC Dallas recently acquired the four-acre campus previously operated by CitySquare, whose operations ceased in late 2024. The Stewpot is in the process of moving to the campus and has taken on two of CitySquare’s core programs—the Food Pantry and Neighborhood Resource Center, which support 14,000 people annually. 

For the 17th year, Chef Brian C. The 16th annual Stewpot Alliance Soup’s On Luncheon and Art Show will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Thompson Dallas. Featured speaker is Father Gregory Boyle, founder of Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles, California, the largest gang intervention, rehabilitation, and re-entry program in the world.

Father Boyle is the author of the 2010 New York Times-bestseller Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion. His second book, Barking to the Choir: The Power of Radical Kinship, was published in 2017. And his new and third book is now available, The Whole Language: The Power of Extravagant Tenderness.

Stewpot Alliance Soup's On! Luncheon and Art Sale Jan. 30

 The 15th annual Stewpot Alliance Soup’s On Luncheon and Art Show will be held on Monday, January 30 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Thompson Dallas in downtown Dallas. Artists Christy Coltrin and Brad Oldham chair the annual fundraising event benefitting The Stewpot.

“No two clients at The Stewpot are the same. Effectively helping our homeless and at-risk neighbors requires a deep knowledge of the issues and resourceful thinking to customize programs and services,” Christy said. “We want to celebrate the creative thinking used at The Stewpot that translates into real help. The luncheon theme is creativity.” 

“The Stewpot’s Art Program uses art for both therapeutic exploration and a source of income for those they serve,” Brad added. “As artists, we see how lives are changed through such a program, and we are challenging ourselves to share our skills at Soup’s On. For example, instead of a floral centerpiece on the luncheon table we made a limited-edition bronze sculpture called Otter Guides that will be for sale.”

The featured speaker is Dallas Mavericks CEO and author Cynt Marshall, who boldly confronts tough issues in business and in life in her new book titled You’ve Been Chosen. Cynt shares how she beat personal and professional odds while also helping others see how they are uniquely equipped to thrive. Dallas Mavericks DJ Ivy Awino will serve as emcee and sound producer for the luncheon.

Soup's On 2021 with Award-Winning Chef Jose Andres

 

The 13th annual Stewpot Alliance Soup’s On! Luncheon and Art Sale goes virtual Thursday, February 25th at 12:00pm featuring award-winning chef, restaurateur and humanitarian José Andrés. Robert Wilonsky, Communications Director for Heritage Auctions and op-ed columnist for the Dallas Morning News joins Chef Andrés for a conversation about how his efforts ensure people worldwide are fed in the wake of catastrophe. Soup’s On! 2021 presented by The Stewpot Alliance is co-chaired by longtime Stewpot supporters Becky and Larry Sykes. 

Proceeds from the luncheon benefit The Stewpot which now, in its 46th year serves our neighbors who are experiencing and at risk of homelessness by providing meals (over 8,000,000 to date), counseling and case management, medical and dental services via onsite partners, youth and family stabilization programs, as well as therapeutic and vocational activities.

Named one of Time’s “100 Most Influential People” in both 2012 and 2018 and recipient of the 2015 National Humanities Medal, José Andrés is an internationally-recognized culinary innovator, author, educator, humanitarian, and chef/owner of ThinkFoodGroup. 

Chef Andrés has received the James Beard Foundation’s “Outstanding Chef” and "Humanitarian of the Year" awards. Andrés is a committed advocate of food and hunger issues and is known for championing the role of chefs in the national debate on food policy. 

In 2010, Andrés formed World Central Kitchen, a non-profit specializing in delivering food relief in the wake of natural and humanitarian disasters. Since serving nearly 4 million meals to the people of Puerto Rico following the devastation of Hurricane Maria, World Central Kitchen has responded to dozens of disasters worldwide and distributing tens of millions of meals in the process. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization has partnered with restaurants, small farms, and community leaders around the country to combat food insecurity.

This year, the art sale, featuring original pieces of art from the artists at The Stewpot will take place online in conjunction with the virtual luncheon. Single tickets begin at $250, which includes a gift box with sponsorships opportunities available. Since the 2021 event is virtual, a $35 view-only option will be offered.

The 8th annual Stewpot Alliance Soup’s On! Luncheon and Art Sale was recently held at downtown Dallas’ historic Union Station.  Featured speaker was Collins Tuohy, whose life was chronicled in The Blind Side.

 

The luncheon featured a dozen of Dallas’ finest chefs serving up a signature soup as the first course of the meal.  Chefs included Chef Chairman Brian C. Luscher of The Grape and Luscher’s Red Hots; Chef Brent Anderson, Wolfgang Puck Catering; Chefs Melody Bishop & Dennis Kelley, LARK on the Park; Chef Omar Flores, Casa Rubia; Chef Danyele McPherson, Remedy; Chef Misti Norris, Small Brewpub; Chef Suki Otsuki, Mudhen; Chef Janice Provost, Parigi; Chef Abraham Salum, Salum and Komali; Chef Sarah Snow, The Grape and Chef Brian Zenner, On-Premise.

Keynote speaker, Collins Tuohy urged guests to see the value that every person holds and not to let presumptions skew the judgement of others.  Tuohy encourages everyone to do something to change the life of another person.

 

The Stewpot, which celebrated 40 years of service to the Dallas community in 2015, provides meals to our homeless and at-risk neighbors as well as a full range of health and human services, youth activities and cultural programs for those in need.  In 2014, The Stewpot invested in a downtown neighborhood revitalization project by helping to establish Encore Park. Encore Park is a nonprofit that encompasses an outdoor community garden and amphitheater, and in the future, will provide space for nonprofit agencies partnering with The Stewpot.

Participate in National Family Volunteer Day this Saturday, November 22nd

 

Tis' the season of giving, and there's nothing better than volunteering as a family! In celebration of National Family Volunteer Day, Wee Volunteer is hosting the 3rd Annual 60 Minutes of Giving event on Saturday, November 22nd. There are several family-friendly service projects with organizations around the DFW Metroplex to be completed from 10:30am-11:30am.

 

Once projects have been completed, all participants are invited to Communities Foundation of Texas for an After Party starting at 12:00pm. There will be a photo slideshow, food, activities and fun. Goodwill will also have a donation truck on-site to accept gently used donations.

ChildCareGroup – 20 Volunteers

ChildCareGroup’s mission is to promote, deliver, and expand the best early care and education programs for children, parents and early childhood professionals. They provide a nationally recognized model of care at seven Head Start and/or Early Head Start centers for little or no cost to low-income families.  Volunteers will be decorating the front desk and teacher’s meeting room for the holidays at their Dallas Bethlehem Center. Wee will learn more about their mission with a short video and tour of the facility. Appropriate for families with children ages 4 years+

 

The Stewpot – 20 Volunteers

The Stewpot offers a safe haven for homeless and at-risk individuals of Dallas, providing resources for basic survival needs as well as opportunities to start a new life. They serve anywhere from 1,500 – 2,000 meals per day, 7 days a week.  Volunteers will tour the Stewpot, learn about their mission and the services and resources they provide for the clients they serve in our community.  Appropriate for families with children ages 8 years+

Trash Pick Up with Dusty – 20 Volunteers

Dusty the Dumpster is teaming up with Wee Volunteer to tidy up our city! Dusty will explain the importance of keeping the community free of litter, teach us about recycling and then volunteers will get into action by picking up trash.  Appropriate for families with children ages 4 years+

THE STEWPOT ALLIANCE SOUP’S ON! LUNCHEON SHOWCASES TOP CHEFS AND AUTHOR LIZ MURRAY

The sixth annual Stewpot Alliance Soup’s On! Luncheon and Art Sale was held Thursday, January 30 at the Omni Dallas. With a record attendance of nearly 700 supporters, this year's luncheon was the most successful yet.  Last year, The Stewpot Alliance was able to donate well over $300,000 to The Stewpot.

The luncheon featured ten of the city’s finest chefs serving up signature soups to benefit The Stewpot and Encore Park. Soup’s On! also included an art sale of original paintings and handmade jewelry from the artists of the Stewpot Open Art Programs, keynote speaker Liz Murray, emcee and Dallas Morning News columnist Steve Blow and a performance by Shoot Low Sheriff.

Keynote speaker Liz Murray, the subject of the TV film Homeless to Harvard and author of Breaking Night, spoke about the unlikely turn of events that changed her life and her struggle to triumph over adversity and dream big. Murray’s life as the child of cocaine-addicted parents in the Bronx was bitterly grim. By age 15, Murray’s mom had died and she was homeless—living on the streets, riding the subway all night and eating from dumpsters. Determined to take charge of her life, Murray finished high school in just two years while camping out in New York City parks and subway stations. Murray received her B.S. in Psychology from Harvard University in June 2009.

More than 35 years ago, The Stewpot began providing meals to our homeless and at-risk neighbors. Programs have developed to assist with medical needs, counseling, enrichment of children and youth, job training, and cultural expression. Seizing a remarkable opportunity to acquire the historic buildings at 508 and 515 Park, The Stewpot has embarked on a groundbreaking project entitled Encore Park. When completed, this expanded campus will include an outdoor amphitheater, community garden, a Museum of Street Culture, an Art Gallery for the Open Art Program, and expanded space for its partner agencies and its own programs.

The 6th annual Stewpot Alliance Soup’s On! Luncheon and Art Sale to be held Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Omni Dallas features ten of Dallas’ finest chefs serving up signature soups to benefit The Stewpot and Encore Park. 

Soup’s On! features keynote speaker Liz Murray, emcee and Dallas Morning News columnist Steve Blow, performances by Dallas’ own Shoot Low Sheriff and includes an art sale of more than fifty original paintings and handmade jewelry from artists of the Stewpot Open Art Programs.

Luscher of the popular Grape Restaurant acts as Chef Chairman of the luncheon who along with Bruno Davaillon, The Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek; Omar Flores, Driftwood; Danyele McPherson, The Grape; Matt McCallister, FT33; Chad Kelley, Café Pacific; Janice Provost, Parigi; Abraham Salum, Salum; Nathan Tate, Boulevardier and Jason Weaver of the Omni Dallas will prepare a signature soup as the first course of the luncheon.

Keynote speaker Liz Murray, the subject of the TV film Homeless to Harvard and author of Breaking Night speaks about the unlikely turn of events that changed her life and her struggle to triumph over adversity and dream big.  Murray’s life as the child of cocaine-addicted parents in the Bronx was bitterly grim.   By age 15, Murray’s mom had died and she was homeless—living on the streets, riding the subway all night and eating from dumpsters.  Determined to take charge of her life, Murray finished high school in just two years while camping out in New York City parks and subway stations.  Murray received her B.S. in Psychology from Harvard University in June 2009.

More than 35 years ago, The Stewpot began providing meals to our homeless and at-risk neighbors. Programs have developed to assist with medical needs, counseling, enrichment of children and youth, job training, and cultural expression. Seizing a remarkable opportunity to acquire the historic buildings at 508 and 515 Park, The Stewpot has embarked on a groundbreaking project entitled Encore Park. When completed, this expanded campus will include an outdoor amphitheater, community garden, a Museum of Street Culture, an Art Gallery for the Open Art Program, and expanded space for its partner agencies and its own programs.

Shed Your Winter Coat at the Dallas Zoo for Free Admission

The Zoo Unto Others employee volunteer team at the Dallas Zoo is sponsoring the “Shed Your Winter Coat” coat drive to benefit clients of The Stewpot, a barrier-free resource center for the homeless and at-risk of Dallas.

The coat drive takes place on Saturday, December 7 AND Saturday, December 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bring a new or gently used coat, blanket, or sleeping bag and receive FREE admission to the Dallas Zoo that day for each item donated.

Soup's On Luncheon A 'Souper' Success

The fifth annual Stewpot Alliance Soup’s On! Luncheon and Art Sale was held Tuesday, January 29 at the Omni Dallas. Co-chaired by Kay Lunceford and Trish Weigand under the encouragement and guidance of honorary chairs, Joan and Elvis Mason, the annual luncheon which raises money for the services and programs offered by The Stewpot and soon-to-open 508 Park had a record attendance and moved total donations from the five-year history to over $1.2 million.

Performances by the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts Varsity Choir and Ensemble and Dallas Wind Symphony greeted guests who mixed and mingled between original pieces of art by artists of The Stewpot Open Art Program and dining packages donated by participating chefs. Dallas Morning News columnist and Stewpot supporter Steve Blow emceed the event while New York Times best-selling author Wes Moore offered an autobiographical keynote lecture inspired by the ‘other’ Wes Moore who remains in prison for the murder of an off-duty Baltimore police officer and is the subject of Moore’s The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates.

Luncheon guests received handcrafted pewter coins as a token of appreciation from renowned sculptor Brad Oldham in collaboration with the Stewpot artists. Each coin was handcrafted by Oldham and the Stewpot artists and features West Wind, an architectural detail found on the 508 Park building.

The 508 Park Project has acquired the historic building located across the street from The Stewpot and is transforming it into a multi-use facility to include a music academy, recording studio, concert amphitheater, rooftop terrace, community garden, and the Museum of Street Culture. In addition, The Stewpot's successful Open Art Program will be located there and a gallery for the homeless artists will be opened. The Project seeks to bring together people of all cultures and faiths through dialogue, education, music, and art.

The Stewpot offers a safe haven for homeless and at-risk individuals of Dallas, providing resources for basic survival needs as well as opportunities to start a new life.  The Stewpot offers case management services and job training; street outreach for drug/alcohol addiction; accessible dental and medical care, mental health services, and legal aid to the homeless and at-risk; and sequential programs for children and youth that help break the cycle of poverty for future generations.

The Feast of Saint Martha

Join The Grape Restaurant for the 1st Annual Feast of Saint Martha. The chef will be offering a special 3-course tasting menu during the event, yet not to worry for all of The Grape fans, they will still have their full menu available.

Five dollars of every meal purchased will benefit The Stewpot, who serve over 700 meals each day, everyday of the year. They aim to give second chances to those in need through casework services, job readiness and creative outlets.

You can have a wonderful evening while benefiting a terrific cause. Lastly, for those who do not know, Saint Martha is the patron saint of cooks and servers.
