Nexus Spring Luncheon Raises Record Breaking Funds

Bush Twins and Candice Crawford Help Raise Record Breaking Funds for Nexus Spring Luncheon

Barbara Pierce Bush and Jenna Bush Hager (pictured below) were the featured speakers of the 2011 Spring Luncheon benefiting Nexus Recovery Center. This annual event hosted by The Women’s Auxiliary of Nexus Recovery Center was held on May 12, 2011 at Union Station and raised over $95,000. This amount is nearly double the sum raised in the annual luncheon's recent history, and the attendance more than doubled.
A crowd of 560+ people attended the luncheon where the Bush twins participated in a Q&A moderated by Candice Crawford, fiancé of Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys' quarterback. Candice posed questions to Jenna and Barbara on life as a President's daughter, living with the secret service, their involvement with Nexus Recovery Center and more.
Hours preceding the luncheon, the Bush twins, Candice Crawford and VIP luncheon sponsors toured the Nexus Recovery Center campus. Beverly Barry, The Women's Auxiliary President, Becca Crowell, Nexus Executive Director and Stacy Burns, Nexus Clinic Director, introduced the speakers to select women and their children benefiting from the Nexus program. The theme of this year's luncheon, "The Miracle that Happens in Between", is a direct quote from a Nexus client who once described her experience there as the miracle that happens in between addiction and recovery, despair and hope. Accordingly, a former client of Nexus Recovery Center bravely shared her personal story of battling her addiction and how Nexus helped her successfully overcome. Additionally, a Nexus video entitled "The Miracle that Happens in Between" detailed how Nexus empowers women and families to break the cycle of addiction.
This 2011 luncheon was Co-Chaired by Susan Griffiths and Dee Velvin, with Honorary Chair Allie Beth Allman. Wolfgang Puck catered the lunch and "Nexus Blend" iced tea was served compliments of The Cultured Cup.

In appreciation of the Bush twins' support of Nexus Recovery Center, two of the luncheon sponsors presented custom designed necklaces from Bella Rose Jewelry, as well as tea cup sets from Prouna to the speakers.

Additionally, a Nexus video entitled "The Miracle that Happens in Between" will detail how Nexus empowers women and families to break the cycle of addiction.
