Since 1986, Family Gateway has been uniquely focused on family homelessness, offering over 8,300 children and their parents the help they need to recover from crisis and make positive choices for their future. 

 

Volunteers will tour the homeless shelter, learn about homelessness and then join the children living at the Family Gateway for holiday themed projects and fun!

 

Appropriate for children ages 4 and up.

Participate in National Family Volunteer Day this Saturday, November 22nd

 

Tis' the season of giving, and there's nothing better than volunteering as a family! In celebration of National Family Volunteer Day, Wee Volunteer is hosting the 3rd Annual 60 Minutes of Giving event on Saturday, November 22nd. There are several family-friendly service projects with organizations around the DFW Metroplex to be completed from 10:30am-11:30am.

 

Once projects have been completed, all participants are invited to Communities Foundation of Texas for an After Party starting at 12:00pm. There will be a photo slideshow, food, activities and fun. Goodwill will also have a donation truck on-site to accept gently used donations.

Get involved with your family and help make a positive impact in the community. Simply giving 6o minutes of your time can make a world of difference!

ChildCareGroup – 20 Volunteers

ChildCareGroup’s mission is to promote, deliver, and expand the best early care and education programs for children, parents and early childhood professionals. They provide a nationally recognized model of care at seven Head Start and/or Early Head Start centers for little or no cost to low-income families.  Volunteers will be decorating the front desk and teacher’s meeting room for the holidays at their Dallas Bethlehem Center. Wee will learn more about their mission with a short video and tour of the facility. Appropriate for families with children ages 4 years+

 

The Stewpot – 20 Volunteers

The Stewpot offers a safe haven for homeless and at-risk individuals of Dallas, providing resources for basic survival needs as well as opportunities to start a new life. They serve anywhere from 1,500 – 2,000 meals per day, 7 days a week.  Volunteers will tour the Stewpot, learn about their mission and the services and resources they provide for the clients they serve in our community.  Appropriate for families with children ages 8 years+

Trash Pick Up with Dusty – 20 Volunteers

Dusty the Dumpster is teaming up with Wee Volunteer to tidy up our city! Dusty will explain the importance of keeping the community free of litter, teach us about recycling and then volunteers will get into action by picking up trash.  Appropriate for families with children ages 4 years+

August Volunteer Opportunities for Your Wee Ones

Wee Volunteer hosts monthly service projects with charities in the Dallas area. The volunteer opportunities are tailored for preschool and elementary school age children.

 

Each project typically includes a tour of the charity lead by the charity’s volunteer director or educational director.  During the tour the children learn the charity’s mission and the services provided in the area of need served by the charity. Once the project is completed the children are thanked for volunteering and for all they were able to accomplish for that charity. After completion of the project every child should be able to take away new knowledge and a sense of accomplishment as well as feeling empowered to help others.

Help deliver meals on the Locomotion Party Bus. After the deliveries, you can tour the volunteer kitchen and learn about VNA Meals On Wheels!

Community Partners of Dallas

Tuesday, August 19  3:00-4:00

CPD serves over 16,000 children in the Dallas area. Learn about the programs offered by Community Partners, take a tour of the Rainbow Room and warehouse, then sort and pack supplies for the thousands of kids in need.

 Appropriate for children ages 2 and up.

Wee Symphony

Does your child like to sing or play an instrument? Does he/she take singing lessons, piano lessons or play another instrument? Lessons or not, let them practice their talents with Mommy Manders for the Elderly Residents at C.C. Young Retirement Community. Each child will have the opportunity for a solo performance and/or sing/play songs in a group.

  Appropriate for children ages 6 months+

Project Fee: $10 per child

Tarrant Area Food Bank

Wednesday, August 20  4:00-5:00

TAFB is the major source of donated food for hunger-relief charities and feeding programs in 13 North Texas counties. Their mission is to empower communities to eliminate hunger by providing food, education, and resources through innovation and collaboration. One-third of those served by TAFB and its network are children.  Learn about the area of need served by the TAFB, mission and clients, tour their warehouse and pack Birthday Bags for children in need.

Appropriate for children ages 3 and up.

Project Fee: $10 per child

 

Citizenship Counts

Thursday, August 21  11:00-12:00

Wee Volunteer and Citizenship Counts invite you and your child to the US District Court of the Norther District of Texas to learn about US citizenship and participate in a naturalization ceremony. The Judge will speak with the kids before the ceremony, and the children will then help new citizens celebrate their naturalization by giving them pre-made "I love citizenship" cards.

  Appropriate for children ages 6 and up

Project Fee: $5 per child

Wee Volunteer has some fun projects on the calendar this month.  These are great opportunities to volunteer with the little people in your life.  They can get involved in the community, learn about the current needs, meet new friends and have fun in the process!

... And they call it Puppy Love!

Wee Volunteer invites you and your child to volunteer at the SPCA! You will tour the SPCA and learn about animal care. Then you will show some love to the dogs by petting and playing with them. You will also have the chance to feed carrots to the horses and donkeys and apples to the pigs. The fee for this project is $10 per child to cover the cost of project including a tour fee paid to the SPCA.

Promise House

Promise House embraces homeless, runaway and at-risk teens, giving them needed support, encouragement and hope to live a better life. Their programs cover the vital needs of teens, including emergency shelter, transitional living, pregnant and parenting teen services, individual, group and family counseling, street outreach and educational intervention.
Wee volunteers will help Promise House by providing power packs for their street outreach program. Then you will have an interactive discussion about basic necessities and homelessness. Finally, you will learn about Promise House and some of the services provided with a tour of the main building. 

Appropriate for children ages 5 and up
Each child must bring Power Pack materials:
1 wash cloth, 1 travel sized body wash, 1 travel sized shampoo/conditioner combo, 1 travel sized deodorant, 1 travel sized tooth brush, 1 travel sized tooth paste and 2 non-perishable easy meal items such as granola bars or easy mac

Reading to Rise

The Rise School of Dallas is a nonprofit organization providing the highest quality of early childhood education services to children with Down Syndrome or other developmental disabilities and to children without disabilities.
World Book Day is just around the corner. Let's get ready by Reading to Rise! Wee Volunteers will learn about Rise and children with differences. Then you will join Mommy Manders and the children in The Rise after-school program for a fun book club! You will read and talk about books in a large group and break up into smaller groups for more reading fun.  Appropriate for children ages 2 and up
Please bring your child's favorite book and a book to donate! The cost of the project is $10 per child and a book.

Vogel Alcove

Vogel Alcove is the only free comprehensive early childhood education program in the City of Dallas that serves 115 children and their families referred by local emergency shelters, domestic violence shelters, housing programs and organizations that serve homeless families.  In addition to taking a tour of the facility and watching a video on homelessness, volunteers will make playdough to give to the kids at Vogel.

Wipe Out Graffiti

Wee Volunteer is partnering with the City of Dallas to Wipe Out Graffiti.  Volunteers will learn about the importance of keeping Dallas beautiful from a City Representative. Home Depot will provide paint and paint brushes, and Wee Volunteers will do the rest!

Vickery Meadows

Our neighbors in Vickery Meadows are in need. Please join Wee Volunteer at the Pebbles Apartments where you will learn about Vickery Meadows and the plight of the residents. Then Mommy Manders will help celebrate the July birthdays of the children living at Pebbles by throwing a real birthday party for these kids with cupcakes, games, presents and a lot of birthday cheer!

Musical Outreach

Bring your little ones to celebrate Christmas in July with Mommy Manders! Volunteers will gather in the lobby at Churchill Estates of Lake Highlands to make cards for the elderly residents. Then, you will sing songs, dance and play instruments with the residents.

Appropriate for children ages 12 months and up

Dallas Furniture Bank

Join Wee Volunteer at the Dallas Furniture Bank. Its mission is to provide furniture that meets basic living needs of individuals and families transitioning from homelessness or to others in need. You will tour the warehouse and learn about the Dallas Furniture Bank, and then Wee Volunteers will dust furniture! This will be a FUN, educational project that will help an amazing organization.

Family Gateway provides housing and comprehensive services to homeless families with children empowering them to move from their current crisis back to self-sufficiency. Volunteers will tour the homeless shelter, learn about homelessness and then join the children living at the Family Gateway for fun science experiments with the LAB AT LAKEWOOD!

What Will You Bring to the Table?

WeeVolunteer and the Volunteer Center of North Texas have joined forces with generationOn to kickoff a new project focused on addressing the issue of childhood hunger.

The new project, "What Will You Bring to the Table?" rolls out with a HUGE kickoff event at the North Texas Food Bank. We will tour NTFB's awesome facility, learn about their Food 4 Kids program, pack bags full of food for children in need, take a pledge to end child hunger and sign our names to a canvas 'table cloth.' Our goal is to have the 'table cloth' hung in local restaurants to encourage others to help end child hunger, and to have the pledge approved by The Guinness Book of World Records as the largest pledge ever.
After we take the pledge, we will head outside to meet up with the Arby's "Hungry for Happiness" truck where we will play fun games, learn about nutrition and of course, eat some great food. Please check out Arby's "Hungry for Happiness" truck at http://vimeo.com/47468985.

North Dallas Shared Ministries' mission is to help low-income people assume as much responsibility for their lives as they are able. Since their founding, they have overwhelmingly relied on volunteers to fulfill their mission. Their volunteers enable them to devote well over 90% of their budget to client/ patient services. Wee Volunteer wants to help them fulfill their mission! Learn about the services NDSM provides to those in need, tour the food pantry and volunteer to help with a fun food pantry project. Appropriate for children ages 5 and up. Space is limited to 15 volunteers. The cost of this project is free. Please bring canned food to donate to NDSM.

Our neighbors in Vickery Meadows are in need. Please join us at the Pebbles Apartments. We will learn about Vickery Meadows and the plight of the residents. Then Mommy Manders will host a Valentine's Sock Hop with fun music and dancing for our kids along with the kids living at the Pebbles Apartment Complex. Please bring new white socks for the kids living at Pebbles. Appropriate for children ages 3 and up.  Space is limited to 15 volunteers. A minimum donation of $5.00 per child to Wee Volunteer is required to cover the cost of the project. Please bring new white socks for the children living at the Pebbles Apartment Complex.

Little Volunteers Needed

Join Wee Volunteer at the Dallas Furniture Bank this Thursday for a fun family-friendly volunteer project! Dallas Furniture Bank provides furniture that meets basic living needs of individuals and families transitioning from homelessness or to others in need.

Wee Volunteers will gather on Thursday, January 24th from 4:00-5:00pm to tour the warehouse and learn about the Dallas Furniture Bank and then make 'cakes' out of towels, wash cloths and sheet sets! Please bring new towels, wash cloths and/or sheet sets to donate. The 'cakes' will be used as centerpieces at DFB's annual CHAIRity FRIENDraiser on February 20th and then given to families transitioning from homeless shelters.

This project is FREE to participate and appropriate for children ages 4 and up. Space is limited to 15 volunteers.

Step Out Kids Fun Run

The Step Out Kids Fun Run is a 1K around the Rangers Ballpark that's appropriate for children of all ages and sure to be lots of fun!

Join us on Saturday, November 10th at 9:30AM for the opening ceremony, then for the kid's health education program and warm-up exercises. The Kids Fun Run will begin at 10:30AM. Prizes will be awarded to the first three runners under the age of 14 to finish the race! After the race, we will celebrate with face painters, bounce houses and a healthy lunch provided by My Fit Foods.

Step Out also features a 5K walk and run, a health and wellness expo with vendor giveaways and more!

Volunteer Opportunity TODAY - Operation Rainbow Brains

Wee Volunteer is a non-profit that organizes fun, age-appropriate service learning projects for kids in the Dallas area.  They are seeking 'wee' volunteers for an artistic project this afternoon.

Operation Rainbow Brains brings unexpected color to the community by coloring chalk rainbows on dead or diseased areas of trees. Wee Volunteer is partnering with ORB to create a rainbow filled, community art installation at the Wesley Rankin Youth Center. Wee Volunteers and children from the youth center will color rainbows on tree trunk discs that will be hung from trees surrounding the center in West Dallas.

Appropriate for ages 7 and up

Space is limited to 10 children.
