Dallas Children's Advocacy Center to Unveil New Facility

Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC) will host a Grand Opening Ceremony on January 31, 2013 at its new facility at 5351 Samuell Blvd. There will be a formal ribbon cutting ceremony and photo opportunity for media with elected officials and lead donors at 10:00 am. The ceremony will include remarks from Mary Blake and Chuck Meadows, Capital Campaign Chairs; Jan and Trevor Rees-Jones, Rees-Jones Foundation; Steve Martin, DCAC Chairman of the Board; and Mr. Lynn M. Davis, DCAC President and CEO. There will be a performance by Classical Center Children’s Choir, directed by Tammy Gallagher and a blessing by Rev. Aaron White from First Unitarian Church of Dallas.

Tours of the new facility will start at 11:15 am and continue throughout the day until 3:30 pm. The tours will include information about the services offered at DCAC and will give attendees an opportunity to hear from DCAC staff, Child Protective Services, the Child Abuse Unit of the Dallas Police Department, and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office. Food generously donated by Central Market, La Madeline, Starbucks, Good 2 Go Tacos, Taco Diner, Sprinkles, Society Bakery, Tiff’s Treats, Jason’s Deli, and Whole Foods will be served throughout the tours.

From September 24 to 28, Sprinkles is donating 100% of proceeds from their Brown Boot Vanilla to Give Cancer the Boot. An initiative of the Dallas Cattle Baron's Ball, this event is the world's largest single fundraising effort for The American Cancer Society with the goal of eradicating cancer through research and patient navigation. Just look for the brown boot sugar decoration to know you're eating for a great cause!

Sprinkles Cupcakes Celebrates Mothers Day

DreamWorks Pictures is teaming up with Sprinkles Cupcakes to promote their film “People Like Us." The promotion will run from May 2-June 29, 2012, and is centered around these family-themed holidays: Mother’s Day (May 13), Visit Your Relatives Day (May 18), Father’s day (June 17) and National Forgiveness Day (June 26).

On the designated “People Like Us” holidays, Sprinkles Cupcakes will give out a free cupcake to each customer who comes in between the hours of 12 noon and 2 p.m. and says, “People Like Us.” Any customer can vote online for the official “People Like Us” flavor, and the winning cupcake will be announced the week of the film’s opening. Customers can also pick up punch cards in Sprinkles Cupcakes stores, redeemable on the selected ‘People Like Us” holidays for a free cupcake. Cupcake Wars for Charity

Sprinkles Cupcakes will host the first ever Big D’s "Big News" Cupcake Wars on Saturday, January 21, at NorthCourt inside NorthPark Center. Gene and Julie, co-hosts of The New 103.7 Lite FM/KVIL will emcee the confectionary contest to determine which local personalities’ charity will take home a $5,000 grand prize.

Gene and Julie will kick off the event with a preliminary Q&A round, and each team’s answers will be factored into final scores. The following contenders will then have 30 minutes to frost, decorate and creatively display cupcakes in the spirit of their organization:

- Clarice Tinsley of KDFW-TV for Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas
- Amy Vanderoef of WFAA-TV for Hold the Door

Founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes and judge of the Food Network’s "Cupcake Wars" Candace Nelson will join fellow judges: our own Kimberly Schlegel Whitman, Editor-at-Large for Southern Living Magazine; Barneys New York Concierge Jackson; and Owner & Pastry Chef Toni Rivard. Judges will choose one winning team to receive a $5,000 donation to their charity. The best part is that everyone wins! Sprinkles Cupcakes will also donate $1,000 to the remaining organizations.

Sprinkles Cupcakes Dallas – located inside The Plaza at Preston Center – will provide freshly-baked cupcakes and the bakery’s famous frosting, but teams are invited to bring decorations and display materials of their choice.

The event is open to the public, so sugar-aficionados and spectators are welcome to cheer from the sidelines while DJ OB-JEN & JUICE provide sweet music. Nelson and competitors will meet and greet with the crowd starting at 3:00 p.m., and the Cupcake Wars kicks off at 3:30 p.m.

Sprinkles Feeds the Need - August 23-28

Sprinkles Cupcakes is partnering with Hunger Busters to help raise awareness about childhood hunger in Dallas. From August 23 to 28, Sprinkles will donate 100% of sales from vanilla milk chocolate cupcakes, adorned with the gold star sugar decoration, to Hunger Busters “Feed the Need – After School Program.”

Feed the Need was established in 2007 to provide Dallas school children who participate in subsidized breakfast and lunch meal plans with a nutritious and sustaining third meal of the day. The program currently serves 2,200 meals a week.

You will also be happy to know that the delicious leftover Sprinkles cupcakes do NOT go to waste at the end of the day. They are donated to Metrocare Services, a Dallas non-profit dedicated to caring for people with mental illness and providing housing and homeless services to the community.
