Farrah Fawcett Foundation Tex-Mex Fiesta 2022

The Farrah Fawcett Foundation Tex-Mex Fiesta co-chairs Alana Stewart and Jaclyn Smith led the 2022 event at The Rustic in Dallas, Texas this year, as opposed to their usual Beverly Hills location. Attended by more than 350 guests from Hollywood and Dallas, this event raised funds for the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge and Stand Up To Cancer. 

The Rustic was transformed with floating pinatas, colorful lanterns, and mariachis for the fiesta-themed event, designed and produced by The James Group. Guests sat under a starry Texas sky at festive tablescapes as they enjoyed endless margaritas and Tex-Mex food (Farrah’s favorite).

Guests were greeted with an opening performance by Sydney Sherrill and stylish gift bags provided by Neiman Marcus. The burlap totes were filled with several full-sized luxury products: Retrouve’s face serum, Sobel Skin moisture cream, a Knesko Nanogold Repair face mask, eyeshadow by Nude Envie, and Sisley mascara. Also included was a signed copy of Linda Gray’s ‘The Road to Happiness' and a bag of Tom’s Perfect 10 Ginger Zing Granola.

The evening program began with co-chairs Alana Stewart, CEO and President of the Farrah Fawcett Foundation, and Jaclyn Smith, former “Charlie’s Angels” co-star with Farrah Fawcett, introducing the emcee of the event, George Hamilton. The crowd was immediately engaged by Hamilton's charm, wit, endearing sense of humor, and famous tan. After capturing all the philanthropic hearts, Hamilton introduced Dr. Lawrence Piro, Fawcett’s former oncologist and Chief Medical Advisor for the Farrah Fawcett Foundation, who gave insight into the importance of the evening’s fundraising efforts. 

Jaclyn Smith presented the “Angel Award” to Dallas’ beloved award-winning actress, Linda Gray. Ryan O’Neal was also acknowledged with the Angel Donor Award by Alana Stewart. O’Neal’s son, Patrick O’Neal, accepted the award and shared a heartfelt tribute and letter from his father.

Other event highlights included a live auction led by Samantha Robinson from Heritage Auctions, with fundraising champions such as lunch with George Hamilton the following day at the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek and a trip to Las Ventanas in Cabo, Mexico, paired with an elegant necklace from Skibell Fine Jewelry. Also auctioned was a custom-made piece from renowned designer Mark Zunino, as well as an exciting LA package including three nights at the glamorous Beverly Hills Hotel and a dinner at Wolfgang Puck’s Spago.

The star-studded evening brought out nine-time Grammy-Award-winning singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow, who generously donated her time to the cause. Her long-term relationship with Stand Up To Cancer and personal battle with breast cancer brought another level of intimacy and connection to the evening.

Alana Stewart Brings The Farrah Fawcett Foundation Tex-Mex Fiesta to Dallas

 

The Farrah Fawcett Foundation (FFF) has announced that this year's 4th biennial Tex-Mex Fiesta benefit will be held in Dallas at The Rustic on October 20, 2022. President and CEO of the FFF and Farrah's long-time friend, Alana Stewart, will be co-hosting along with Farrah's former Charlie’s Angels co-star, Jaclyn Smith. Honorees include Linda Gray, (of TV’s Dallas) and a special acknowledgement to Ryan O’Neal for his continued support of the FFF.

"For the first time, we are celebrating the legacy of Farrah in her home state by bringing our Tex-Mex event to Dallas, instead of the traditional location in Beverly Hills. Farrah was a Texas girl so this would have meant so much to her,” said Alana Stewart.

In 2016, the FFF supported efforts in Dallas for the American Cancer Society’s Gene and Jerry Jones Family Hope Lodge, naming a suite in Farrah’s honor. These fundraising efforts were spearheaded by long-time Dallas local and FFF supporter John Terlingo, of Terlingo Cycle. The facility, located on Baylor University Medical Center’s campus through a collaboration with Baylor Scott & White Health, provides a safe and peaceful place for patients and their caregivers to stay during treatment at any local treatment center. 

The FFF is excited to continue its partnership with the American Cancer Society and Dallas Cattle Baron’s Ball. Proceeds from the event will benefit the important work of this facility, which strives to provide 18,000 nights of free lodging each year. Funds raised will also benefit the FFF’s collaboration with Stand Up To Cancer, which funds HPV-related cancer research.

American Cancer Society - Taste of Hope Re-imagined

 

The American Cancer Society (ACS) will host the 15^th annual Taste of Hope virtual celebration on Tuesday, November 10, 2020. The event will celebrate New York City’s iconic restaurant industry and raise critical funds for cancer research.

The event will feature special appearances and performances by Sting, Giancarlo Esposito (The Mandalorian, Breaking Bad), Mario Cantone (Sex and the City), Chef Jean Georges (The Fulton), Chef Todd English (Figs), Chef Aaron Sanchez (MasterChef), former football player Harry Carson (HOF NY Giants), Amy Ryan (The Office), Peter Onorati (This is Us), Harry Lennix (Blacklist), Alysia Reiner (OITNB), David Alan Basche, Bobby Cannavale, and more. 

Event guests will also have the opportunity to hear first-hand how cancer continues during the pandemic and the devastating impact covid-19 has had on life-saving programs and services from two time cancer survivor, communicator, Coach and Author of Make Room for Joy, Vanessa Joy Walker.This year’s Taste of Hope will recognize James Beard Award-winning culinary honorees, Chef Michael White (Marea) and Chef Joseph ‘JJ’ Johnson (Fieldtrip). Mark D. Friedman and Jamie Koff return as event co-chairs, and CBS News’ Chris Wragge returns at emcee.

Taste of Hope is the American Cancer Society’s signature culinary, wine, and spirits event. Due to safety precautions, this year’s event will be a reimagined virtual party. A pre-show featuring cocktail demos from mixologists at Golden Grove Global and Pepsi Co will air at 6:45pm, and an after-party hosted by DJ Spin Diesel with livestreamed performances will immediately follow the main event.

Attendees also will have the opportunity to bid on silent auction prizes donated from leading organizations including: a coveted table at Rao’s, 1-1 Private Virtual Cooking Demo with David Burke, Dinner for 10 Guests at their home with Chef Michael White, and more. The online auction opens November 5th.

Conversations About Cancer - How Research is Giving Cancer the Boot!

My sixth grade teacher’s six year old daughter, Nell, had childhood leukemia. During that school year, our teacher would provide us with updates on her condition. And towards the end of the school year, they travelled to another state for experimental treatment. I can’t help but think that if she’d been born today, her chances of beating the disease would be so much better, thanks to all the cancer research that has been done and continues to be done.


The American Cancer Society, Cattle Baron’s Ball and Jennifer and Richard Dix invite you to join us for an evening of Conversations About Cancer this Monday, May 7, from 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Hosted at UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Simmons Biomedical Research Building (6000 Harry Hines Boulevard), UT Southwestern researchers and physicians, including American Cancer Society-funded investigators, will share the scientific discoveries that are shaping the future of cancer care today.

The evening will open with a cocktail reception and music provided by Ray Johnston Band Acoustic. Immediately following, James Brugarolas, MD, PhD, will talk about “Kidney Cancer: Personalized Medicine and Research Translation,” and then Elizabeth Maher, MD, PhD, will speak on “The Molecular Revolution: How Molecular Medicine Can Transform Brain Cancer Care”.

Pink in the Rink

It is not often that you see hockey players wearing pink but this weekend you can! The Texas Tornados partnering with the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Frisco to dedicate a weekend of hockey to raising funds for cancer awareness. A percentage of the proceeds from ticket sales, pink merchandise, and a Jersey Auction will benefit the ACS! The players will be wearing the one-of-a-kind pink jerseys all weekend in honor of Lisa Flowers, a long-time Tornado fan who served as a host mom to many of the players throughout the years, who lost her battle with cancer last fall. The jerseys will be auctioned off by silent auction throughout the weekend. Last year's auction raised over $10,000!

The Tornado will play the Springfield Junior Blues on Friday March 5th at 7:30 pm, on Saturday March 6th at 7:00 pm and on Sunday March 7th at 3:00 pm. Don't forget to mark your calendars for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Frisco as well! The 24 relay will begin on May 7th at 6:00 pm and end on May 8th at 7:00 am. It started in 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt, a surgeon in Tacoma, Washington, walked and ran around a track for 24 hours straight. Since then it has grown into a relay that involves over 3.5 million people a year in 19 countries! Everyone and anyone is invited to participate. There is $10 entry fee and then you are free to raise as much as you can for a donation. The best way to participate is to put a team together and "camp out" at the track. Each team is encouraged to have at least one representative on the track at a time.
