2014 Doing the Most Good Luncheon, Fort Worth - With Beth Holloway, Keynote Speaker

Beth Holloway will be the keynote speaker at The Salvation Army’s 2014 Annual Doing the Most Good Luncheon to be held on Tuesday, March 18 from noon until 1:30 p.m. at the Omni Hotel, 1300 Houston Street in Fort Worth.

By her own account Holloway lived a quiet, somewhat uneventful life as a speech pathologist for children with special needs for 24 years. Her life changed quite dramatically in the summer of 2005 when her daughter Natalee disappeared on the last night of her senior high graduation trip to Aruba. This tragic story became the leading news mystery when it happened, and continues to make headlines today.

Holloway has appeared on every television network in the nation as well as on international TV and radio and in international newspapers, capturing the world’s attention as she searched for her daughter. Barbara Walters selected her as one of the world’s most fascinating people for her perseverance in seeking answers to what happened to Natalee.

As a New York Times best-selling author of "Loving Natalee" and a veteran educator, Beth continues to educate the public on safer travel.

The purpose of the Doing the Most Good luncheon is to raise funds for programs provided by The Salvation Army in Fort Worth. These programs include free daily meals for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, a homeless-prevention program, transitional housing, substance-abuse rehab, a food pantry, after-school care, senior citizen programs, Christmas assistance, and a permanent supportive housing program for homeless veterans.

In the greater Fort Worth area, The Salvation Army operates a homeless shelter and social services center, two apartment buildings for the elderly, a substance-abuse rehabilitation center, two thrift stores, and a community center in the Northside area of the city.
Table sponsorships range from $2,500 to $100,000. Individual tickets are $150. For sponsorship or ticket information, people may contact DFWMC_Events@uss.salvationarmy.org.

The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary Fashion Show & Luncheon

Giving Never Goes Out of Style

Neither rain, nor cold, nor wet feet could dampen the enthusiasm of the dedicated women who attended the annual Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary Fashion Show & Luncheon on May 2 at Brook Hollow Golf Club. Co-chairs, Patti Flowers and Pam Busbee, attired in rain boots and umbrellas, greeted the well-dressed audience with welcoming smiles. Sandra Cecil was the Honorary Chairman of the annual sold-out event and WFAA's Debbie Denmon was mistress of ceremonies.

Once again Jan Strimple Production created the incredible tented Runway Show from the "best dressed" closets and stores in Dallas. Walking the runway were young models Jessica Jones and first-timer Mary Margaret Hancock. Jessica is the daughter of Karen Jones and granddaughter of Gene Jones. Mary Margaret Hancock is the daughter of Margaret Hancock and granddaughter of Marilyn Augur and Barbara Hancock-all past chairs of the event.

From Chanel handbags to couture suits, the gently enjoyed worn or never worn clothes and accessories donated by the Metroplex's best dressed make this annual fashion event the ultimate recycling opportunity. "We are so fortunate to live in Dallas where sharing is always fashionable and gently enjoyed clothes can keep on giving," said Flowers. "The Fashion Show, the Chic Boutique and the WEARhouse Sale all provided multiple opportunities to purchase designer items at fabulous prices."

"The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary makes a direct and positive impact on the lives of individuals in need for 20 years," said Captain Michelle Matthews. "Over the years, the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary has raised $7.25 million dollars and given back over $5.5 million to the Salvation Army programs in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex, including homeless shelters and prevention, youth programs, emergency financial assistance and domestic violence programs."

2010 Doing The Most Good Luncheon Sets All-Time Record

Over 1300 guests attended The Salvation Army DFW Metroplex Command 2010 Doing The Most Good Luncheon held on Thursday, November 18 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel. Joyce Fox was the Luncheon Chair. The annual luncheon is believed to be The Salvation Army's largest fundraising luncheon in the world. Funds raised through the luncheon will help meet a variety of human needs in the community.

Underwriting Chair, Dr. Bobby Lyle, kept the total funds raised by the luncheon a secret up to the moment he handed President Gerald Turner a sealed envelope. Upon opening the envelope, Dr. Turner announced that the 2010 luncheon had raised a new all-time record.

Guests also enjoyed the interactive fun of texting a $10 donation to The Salvation Army from their cell phones to increase the amount raised to meet human needs in the local community.

Arlington native and Founder of TOMS Shoes, Blake Mycoskie, was the featured speaker. "Changing lives start with a single step of putting OTHERS ahead of yourself. TOM's One-for-One business model is a simple promise to match each pair sold with a donated pair to a child in need around the world. It isn't the amount of your gift, but the fact that you are giving to The Salvation Army that will make a difference in your life and the lives of others," Mycoskie stated.

Thanks to the generosity of the DFW community, in 2009 The Salvation Army provided assistance to nearly one out of every 50 people in the Dallas Metroplex and returned 86 cents of every dollar donated to services to our community. "It's no secret that times have been tough, but now they're especially tough for those who have no savings to fall back on when they lose their job or when there's an emergency like a sick child who needs medical care," says Major Ward Matthew, The DFW Salvation Army Metroplex Commander. "Our goal is to help make life better for people in difficult circumstances."

In 2009, The Salvation Army provided:

· 1,085,138 meals to the hungry
· 185,727 nights of care for men, women and children
· 322,924 Christmas gifts given through their Angel Tree Program
· 75 Programs and Services through 19 centers

We virtually love Bell Ringing!

One of my favorite family traditions is our annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing!  My dad is on the board of the Salvation Army and he always signs us up for some shifts at NorthPark.  It is so much fun to hand candy canes out to the children who smile and drop in some coins.  Although I am sure we will be ringing a real bell again this year, we are also setting up an on-line red kettle page!  My dad set up his own page last year and I look forward to helping him fill it up again this year!

Anyone can set up their own virtual red kettle page by going to www.onlineredkettle.org or you can search for a friend's kettle by entering their name.  You can market your page through Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and YouTube!  Every dollar counts so please consider making this one of your holiday projects or stopping by the next bell ringing family you see!
