10th Annual Fashion Notes Designer Award Luncheon and Style Show

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra League invites you to join in the celebration of music and fashion at the 10th annual Fashion Notes Designer Award Luncheon and Style Show on Thursday,  October 12, 2023 at the Meyerson Symphony Center. Jada Mowles and Laura Price are the event chairs for the luncheon. Nancy Labadie is the DSOL President.

 

The Honorary Chairs for the event are Karen Cox and her daughter, Isabella Cox, longtime supporters of the Dallas Symphony. Karen is a former Fashion Notes Chair, and Isabella was a Dallas Symphony Orchestra League Debutante in 2020.

 

The Fashion Notes Designer Award 2023 will be presented to Catalina Gonzalez of Dondolo, a luxury children and woman lifestyle brand. The talented designer and her beautiful lifestyle brand will be celebrated.

 The morning will begin at 10:30 with a fashion show followed by lunch and a raffle. Fall fashions from LoveShackFancy, Dondolo, accessories by Milliard Diamond Concierge and boots by Petite Paloma will be featured. The fashion show will be produced by Robyn Chauvin Productions. PaperCity is the digital and print luxury lifestyle media sponsor.

 

Through this event, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League strives to raise funds that support the love of music and arts for thousands of young people in the Dallas community. Funds raised help provide quality outreach and educational programs that light the way for talented local musicians. A musical performance by a Young Strings musician will be a highlight of the event.

DSO's First-Ever Live Concert Simulcast at Klyde Warren Park

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra will host a free live concert simulcast on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at Klyde Warren Park. The concert will feature Music Director Jaap van Zweden conducting the Dallas Symphony in performance with acclaimed violinist Itzhak Perlman as soloist. The concert, simulcast live from the 2014 Dallas Symphony Orchestra AT&T Gala at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, will feature Daphnis and Chloe Suite No. 2 by Ravel, Capriccio italien by Tchaikovsky, and Perlman joining the Dallas Symphony in the Violin Concerto No. 1 by Bruch.

 

“It is such a thrill to be able to share the musical excellence and excitement of the Dallas Symphony’s 2014 AT&T Gala with everyone in Dallas,” said Jan Miller, who with her husband Jeffrey Rich, is chairing the 2014 Dallas Symphony Orchestra AT&T Gala. “Itzhak Perlman is an icon. Jaap van Zweden is a superstar. Together with our Dallas Symphony they will present a memorable evening of beautiful music, and this simulcast will share that experience with music-lovers beyond the Meyerson.”

 

The concert simulcast will be the first in the history of the Dallas Symphony. Patrons may enjoy of the amenities and activities at Klyde Warren Park before the Gala Concert begins at 8:45pm. Following the performance, downtown Dallas visitors will be treated to a fireworks display in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Meyerson Symphony Center.

Klyde Warren Park Preview

The Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation announced yesterday the first programming partners who will bring music, fitness, education, games and art into the park, which opens in twelve weeks. Five acres of shared, public green space will deck over the existing Woodall Rodgers Freeway, bringing new traditions, shared experiences and FUN to the center of Dallas.

The park will maintain a constant stream of free daily activities, such as yoga, Tai Chi, chess, book clubs lectures and live performances.  Partners include Bikram Yoga, Booker T Washington High School, Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas Children's Theater, Dallas Film Society, Dallas Opera, Dallas Regional Chamber, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Fido's Finest Dog Training, Perot Museum of Nature and Science, The Shabby Sheep, SMU, Texas Ballet Theater, UTD and others. 

Klyde Warren Park will host a grand opening weekend on October 27-28.

NTFB Empty Bowls 2012

22nd Annual Deck the Hall Children's Holiday Concert

The Élan Circle of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League (DSOL) is proud to announce Deck the Hall, a holiday concert for children taking place at the internationally renowned Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. The DSO will perform holiday favorites for the entire family, and a sold-out crowd of 2,000 attendees is anticipated.

Deck the Hall is a winter wonderland of music and fun for the entire family. Free lobby entertainment begins at 9:30 a.m. James French, one of Dallas’ leading photographers with over 30 years photographing prominent personalities and events, will be onsite to take photos with Santa. Brook Mays will have an “instrument petting zoo” that allows kids to play and learn hands-on about a variety of different instruments in the orchestra. Stringbini the Clown will be on hand to entertain kids with magic tricks and amusement while they make decorative arts and crafts, listen to holiday carols sung by the Booker T. Washington Chorus, and much more.

At 11:00 a.m., enjoy the sounds of the season as the Dallas Symphony Orchestra plays selections from their annual holiday concert. Kids will enjoy the magic of the holidays with classical carols, favorite songs, and a special visit from Santa.

“Deck the Hall is a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season with your family,” said Alissa Martine, Élan Circle President. “This is one of my favorite events, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have the Dallas Symphony Orchestra partner with us to perform for the first time at Deck the Hall."

Maestro Jaap van Zweden named Conductor of the Year

Jaap van Zweden, music director for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, has been named Conductor of the Year by Musical America.

Maestro Jaap van Zweden has served as music director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra since the 2008-2009 season. He received the honor for his work with the DSO and as guest conductor with some of the nation’s most prestigious orchestras - Chicago Symphony, the Philadelphia and Cleveland Orchestras, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, among others.

Originally from the Netherlands, van Zweden entered The Juilliard School in New York at age 16, as a student of Dorothy DeLay. Van Zweden is very committed to bringing awareness and acceptance to the cause of autism, and in the Netherlands he has established the Papageno Foundation devoted to bringing music therapy into the homes of autistic children.

Van Zweden will formally receive the Conductor of the Year 2012 Award in New York at Carnegie Hall on December 5.

The 2011 DALLAS SYMPHONY DERBY marks the fourteenth year the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League has partnered with the Lone Stark Park at Grand Prairie. Lone Star Park is the country’s Crown Jewel of Thoroughbred horse racing and is the perfect location for an exciting DSOL fundraising event! This fun-filled day includes an extensive buffet in the spacious Silks Dining Room overlooking the final turn and finish line of the track. The skillfully presented buffet is overseen throughout the day by Chef Jake, and an attentive bar staff is ready to serve you your choice of beverage. Experience the excitement of Live Auction competition between each horse race and view the Silent Auction throughout the event. Place a wager on any race with a valet at your service. The North Texas Food Bank’s signature luncheon, Empty Bowls, presented by Tom Thumb, marks its 12th anniversary on Friday, February 25, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Meyerson Symphony Center serving up unlimited steaming bowls of soups and bisques, breads and desserts from 20-plus of the city’s top restaurants and food purveyors. VIP reception starts at 10:30 a.m. and guests are allowed to pick their bowl first and enjoy special, exclusive treats.

Ring in the New Year in this elegant and entertaining European-style program that takes listeners "From Paris to Vienna." Esteemed Austrian maestro Friedrich Haider will conduct the DSO in light classics, popular overtures and frothy waltzes and polkas by French and Austrian composers. Savor the Symphony

Élan Circle of DSOL is presenting Savor the Symphony, a celebration of arts and the Dallas community! The fundraiser brings together leaders in the area to support the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. The funds raised by the event will go toward the educational programs offered by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

Savor the Symphony will be held on April 16, 2011 at 7 p.m. The event is black-tie and will feature a five-course wine dinner, silent and live auctions, and live entertainment all at the Adolphus Hotel.

Art in October

With Halloween quickly approaching, the Dallas Arts District has some wonderfully-themed events for everyone with Art in October, which celebrates the Arts District as they launch their new season of exhibits, events, performances and programs.

Visit the Dallas Museum of Arts (DMA) amazing exhibits. View Jose Guadalupe Posada: The Birth of Mexican Modernism or Art and Life in Africa: Masks Give the Spirits Life, followed later in the month by the Dallas Black Dance Theatre and the DMA's Le Afrique Masquerade: The Beauty and Complexities of Africa, Connecting East to West.

Just when you think WOW, the Dallas Opera will open their season on October 22nd with Don Giovanni.

To conclude the month-long affair, The Dallas Symphony Orchestra will put on their ever-popular Spook-Tacular along with many other festivities.

Bring the whole family for many activities at the DMA to honor the Mexican bicentennial exhibition 200, Day of the Dead and the African Masks exhibition.
