The Dallas Opera, in partnership with The Star in Frisco and with support from founding sponsor, The Dallas Foundation, is extremely proud to announce the company’s first simulcast at The Star in Frisco – and the fifteenth free Dallas Opera simulcast since 2010 – scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 18, 2017.

The action begins at 6:30pm co-hosted by KLUV Radio’s legendary on-air personality, Jody Dean and TDO’s own Education Program Senior Manager, Kristian Roberts.

Pre-show activities include a special cartoon screening, interviews with the cast and crew, and trivia for Opera Swag.

The Dallas Opera, inspired by the incredible success of FIRST NIGHT festivities that mark the opening of each new season, is delighted to introduce an extraordinary spin-off:

The FIRST SIGHT Fashion Show and Luncheon

featuring the work of five outstanding and internationally renowned Dallasbased designers with their breathtaking interpretations of the operas that will take centerstage next season in addition to sumptuous fashions by ESCADA, an international brand synonymous with the highest quality and luxury.

This celebration of great opera and fabulous fashion will take place on Thursday, October 24, 2013 in the acclaimed Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center, presented by J.P. Morgan. The pre-show reception beginning at 10:00 a.m. will set the mood for the fun that follows as the Shannon and Ted Skokos Stage is transformed into a glamorous highfashion runway to showcase the imagination and talent of five of fashion’s most creative designers:

It’s a perfect extension of the FIRST NIGHT celebrations.”

Following their unveiling at FIRST SIGHT, these one-of-a-kind creations inspired by the operas and theme of the 2013-2014 “By Love Transformed Season” will lend an additional air of excitement to the red carpet on Opening Night. Several fashion-savvy style leaders are lending their expertise to the Dallas Opera’s inaugural FIRST SIGHT, including Event Architect Jeffrey Horn FPLtd. and Event Designer Larry Leathers. 3 “There is nothing more glamorous and elegant than our talented designer creations, with ESCADA fashion; all showcased inside the beautiful Winspear Opera House,” says Fashion Show Producer Rhonda Sargent Chambers.

TACA Gives Out Record $1.3M in Grants to North Texas PAOs in 2013

Ken Travis, past TACA board chairman and TravisWolff chairman of the board; Andy Teller, 2012 TACA board chairman and RBC Wealth Management; Becky Young, executive director and president of TACA; Nancy Carlson, 2013 TACA board chairwoman; Christopher Vo, special guest speaker, dancer, graduate of Booker T. Washington School for the Performing Arts and Juilliard School; Norm Bagwell, Bank of Texas chairman and CEO and presenting sponsor of the TACA Grant Awards.

Dallas' premier umbrella arts organization TACA, The Arts Community Alliance, had a banner year fundraising in 2012, allowing the organization to distribute $1.3 million to diverse and deserving North Texas performing arts organizations. Of that amount, $1.2 million was distributed on January 28 at the TACA Grant Awards Presentation, presented by Bank of Texas, at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre. Hosting the event was the AT&T Performing Arts Center. The additional $100,000 will be distributed later this year in June as part of the TACA Donna Wilhelm Family New Works Fund.

"Bravo to all those who supported TACA, who attended one of our events, who support the performing arts by attending a play, a performance, a musical and more," said Nancy Carlson, Chair of TACA's Board of Directors.

In 2013, TACA's grants awarded will help support more than 5,073 performances that approximately 1.4 million people will attend. Ranging from $5,000 to $110,000, TACA grants are being awarded to a varied group of North Texas' performing arts organizations, from the very large and established to the newly emerging.

New organizations being funded this year are AT&T Performing Arts Center, Bruce Wood Dance Project, Lone Star Circus Arts Center, Nasher Sculpture Center, New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving, and Plano Symphony Orchestra.

The Dallas Opera's FIRST NIGHT

The Dallas Opera launched its “Pursuits of Passion” season last Friday with FIRST NIGHT, a black-tie fundraising red carpet event and the opening-night production of Guiseppe Verdi’s Aida. Along the red carpet, Dallas’ top designers showcased their creations donned by celebrity models from the sports world including Kim Dawson Agency model and wife of former Dallas Cowboys player Daryl Johnston, Diane Krebs Johnston who wore Geoffrey Henning; Olympic medalist and world champion, Martina Moravcova wearing a Khanh Nguyen original; and fashion designer Nicolas Villalba were among other notable FIRST NIGHT honorary attendees.

The FIRST NIGHT red carpet reception celebrated the opening of the 56th season of the Dallas Opera. The Dallas Opera is a non-profit organization and each tax-deductible donation is vital to make opera happen. Ticket sales cover less than 40% of the cost of the main-stage productions and year-round community outreach programs. The remaining 60% are dependent on the generosity of donors. Klyde Warren Park Preview

The Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation announced yesterday the first programming partners who will bring music, fitness, education, games and art into the park, which opens in twelve weeks. Five acres of shared, public green space will deck over the existing Woodall Rodgers Freeway, bringing new traditions, shared experiences and FUN to the center of Dallas.

The park will maintain a constant stream of free daily activities, such as yoga, Tai Chi, chess, book clubs lectures and live performances.  Partners include Bikram Yoga, Booker T Washington High School, Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas Children's Theater, Dallas Film Society, Dallas Opera, Dallas Regional Chamber, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Fido's Finest Dog Training, Perot Museum of Nature and Science, The Shabby Sheep, SMU, Texas Ballet Theater, UTD and others.

The time has arrived to recruit new friends to join us as supernumeraries for The Dallas Opera’s exciting 2010-2011 season in the new Winspear Opera House! We are looking for men, women and children of all ages for our upcoming productions of Don Giovanni, Anna Bolena, Romeo & Juliet, Rigoletto and Boris Gudonov.

Supernumeraries, otherwise known as "Supers," play a vital role in the success of operas. These individuals do not have to speak or sing, but have a great attitude and a love or desire to be on the stage. They play servants, priests, guards, soldiers, maids, villagers, etc. to help fill the stage for productions. Rehearsals and performances take place in the evening, with occasional daytime rehearsals on the weekends and Sunday matinees. There is minimal pay, and each Super is entitled to 2 free tickets to the final dress rehearsal.
