Women's Auxiliary of Nexus Recovery Center Announces Honorary Chair and Guest Speaker for Spring Luncheon

Women’s Auxiliary of Nexus Recovery Center recently announced plans for their 2016 Spring Luncheon.  The women's group is celebrating 20 years of service, giving and raising awareness for Nexus Recovery Center.

 

The luncheon will be held on April 21, 2016 at 11:30am at Dallas Country Club.

Honorary Chair is Candice Romo - advocate and supporter of Nexus Recovery Center and wife of Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Tony Romo.

This year's Guest Speaker is Steve Ford, son of former President Gerald R. Ford and Betty Ford.  Ford has successfully negotiated the bumpy road from the White House to a successful 20-year career as an actor in Hollywood.

 

A teenager when his father assumed the reins of the presidency from Richard Nixon, Ford left the White House at age 18 to pursue his dream of being a cowboy on cattle ranches out West, followed closely by his ten secret service agents. He later went on to a successful acting career, appearing in over 30 movies.

 

One of Ford's most rewarding roles has been that of student motivational speaker. Taking time off from his Hollywood career, he began traveling across the country to urge students to empower themselves against harmful influences. He walks students through the early habits he formed during his middle school, high school, and college years that led to his alcohol addiction and he shares tools and actionable tasks that led him to regain a life of personal integrity.

Nexus Recovery Center announced Koren Zailckas, New York Times best selling author of Smashed:  Story of a Drunken Girlhood and Mother, Mother, as the featured speaker for the Women’s Auxiliary of Nexus Spring Luncheon on Thursday, April 23, 2015 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Belo Mansion located at 2101 Ross Avenue in Dallas. 

 

The luncheon benefiting Nexus Recovery Center will be chaired by Liz Pasquinelli with honorary chairperson Diane Sealy, who is long-standing Nexus supporter and past president of the Nexus Women’s Auxiliary.  Luncheon highlights include a VIP reception and seated lunch followed by remarks from Ms. Zailckas as she shares her personal experiences as written in her book with an emphasis on youth and addiction. 

 

“We are so honored to have Koren Zailckas as our guest speaker for the Nexus Women’s Auxiliary luncheon.  I had the pleasure of hearing Koren speak five or six years ago at a parent event at my children’s school.  As a mother of three teenage daughters her story certainly resonates with me and I know that all in attendance will benefit from hearing her experiences as a young woman battling alcoholism,” remarked Liz Pasquinelli, luncheon chair.  “My hope for this year’s luncheon is that we continue the dialogue about addiction and alcoholism and its prevalence in our society.”
