Jordan Spieth Family Foundation Supports Texas Families Facing Pediatric Cancer

Imagine the stress of learning your child received a leukemia diagnosis. No one plans for or budgets for a cancer diagnosis. For the many families that receive a leukemia diagnosis, the initial shock and immediate treatment needs can be jarringly difficult for children and families physically, emotionally, and also financially.

The Jordan Spieth Family Foundation is proud to announce a partnership with Dallas-based organization, Leukemia Texas. Eighty (80) additional pediatric leukemia patients across Texas will receive financial support in 2018 through a major gift from the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation. Leukemia Texas patients ages 18 and under in Dallas, Austin, Houston and San Antonio will directly benefit from this partnership. The funds given by the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation will not only help cover the cost of treatment, but go toward prescription costs, travel to medical appointments and many other life-saving needs, providing a bit of hope in a time of uncertainty.

“From day one, we have pursued organizations that put support directly into the hands of those that need it. Leukemia Texas shares this mission, and has made this a possibility for us,” said Annie Verret. “While we cannot imagine what a family goes through when facing something as awful as this type of diagnosis, we do know that financial strain should be the least of their worries. This grant allows the JSFF to assist so many families when they likely need it most, and we are humbled to assist Leukemia Texas in their great work.”

Last year, Leukemia Texas supported close to 500 families in Texas battling leukemia. This gift from the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation will ensure that an additional 80 families will receive funds this year. “This incredible gift to Leukemia Texas will help relieve the financial burden and offset the cost of treatment,” said Mandy O’Neill, CEO of Leukemia Texas, “but most importantly send a message of optimism and strength when it is needed most. We are so grateful for this partnership with the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation and their trust in our important mission."

They were followed by Honorary Chair and Retired Southwest Airlines Captain, Dick East who shared his story of losing is daughter Muffy to leukemia close to 30 years ago. Captain East emphasized the importance of continuing the fight against leukemia and remaining dedicated to the LeukemiaTexas mission.

Following Captain East, Keith and Jude Cobler joined the stage to share 8 year old Jude’s story with leukemia. After the audience was inspired by this young boy’s courage and determination, LeukemiaTexas representatives surprised Jude and his father with a patient aid check for $1,000.
