Chi Omega Candy Christmas This Weekend!

The Chi Omega Christmas Market offers a unique one-of-a-kind shopping experience with over 175 merchants showcasing gifts for every age including holiday décor, women’s clothing and accessories, home accents, children’s clothing and toys, food gifts, and much more! In its 38 year history, Chi Omega Christmas Market has distributed $6.75 million dollars to the Dallas community through grants to local charities and collegiate scholarships.

 

Funds for Chi Omega Christmas Market beneficiaries are derived solely from ticket sales, merchant booth fees, donations and underwriting. Chi Omega Christmas Market receives no monies from merchant booth sales. Last year, they donated $269,500 to worthy local organizations and are thrilled to continue the tradition of giving this year!

An Evening of Laughter with Leslie Jordan

Actor Leslie Jordan of Will& Grace, The Help and American Horror Story: Coven, will make his way to Dallas on Saturday, November 21^st to host Legacy Counseling Center’s An Evening of Laughter at the Majestic Theater from (925 Main Street) from 8pm-10pm. This year’s event will also celebrate Dallas Jewelry Designer, Joe Pacetti’s 60^th Birthday.

The evening will include passed hors d’ oeuvres by Thobe Catering for all VIP guests, Willa Vodka cocktails, a meet and Greet with Leslie Jordan and an emceed show by famed Sister Helen Holy (Paul J. Williams) and live entertainment by Vince Martinez.

Dallas Women’s Foundation Reaches $30 Million Granting Milestone In First 30 Years

Award-winning actress, producer, designer, philanthropist and ninth generation Texan Eva Longoria was the keynote speaker at Dallas Women’s Foundation’s 30th Annual Luncheon, on Friday, Oct. 30th at The Hilton Anatole. The organization announced it has granted $30 million in 30 years, driving research, programming, collaboration and innovation in North Texas to support women and girls. The sold-out luncheon, with 1,800 attendees, raised more than $1.2 million.

The luncheon celebrated 30 years of the Foundation’s work to advance positive social and economic change for women and girls in North Texas.

 

“I’m excited to join Dallas Women’s Foundation as they lead the fight for women’s issues in Dallas and in my home state of Texas,” said Longoria. “Nothing is more impactful to a community than investment in women. When you improve the lives of women, that affects their families, and ultimately changes our communities. With men and women working together, we can, and we will, improve the lives of women and girls.”

A stalwart supporter of women and diversity, Eva Longoria is the founder of “The Eva Longoria Foundation,” which is dedicated to helping Latinas build better futures for themselves through education and entrepreneurship. Named “Philanthropist of the Year” by The Hollywood Reporter and honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at Variety’s annual Power of Women Luncheon, Longoria was also selected as commissioner for the National Museum of the American Latino Commission.

Recently, Longoria joined Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn in the three-part PBS series, “A Path Appears,” which exposes the effects of gender inequality and poverty in Haiti, Kenya, Colombia and across the U.S. Longoria is also a Golden Globe-nominated, Screen Actors Guild Award- and ALMA Award-winning actress, who will star in and executive produce the highly anticipated series, “Telenovela,” premiering this fall on NBC.

Orrin & Paula Harrison will serve as the 2015 On the Move Chairmen and Former White House Counsel to President George W. Bush and Supreme Court Justice nominee, Ms. Harriet Miers, will serve as Honorary Chairman. This year’s emcee for the event will be Kate Milliken.

 

On the Move is a nationwide program created to raise funds and awareness for multiple sclerosis. Each year, On the Move luncheons bring men and women together to encourage people to give from the heart to support their family members, friends and colleagues whose lives are touched by MS and educate communities about multiple sclerosis.

Evening Under the Stars raises $1.1 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

This year’s annual St. Jude Evening Under the Stars Party on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Omni Dallas Hotel, and the St. Jude Golf Classic on Monday, Oct. 26, at the Stonebriar Country Club in Frisco, Texas, raised more than $1 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital^® to support its mission: Finding cures. Saving children.

Event co-chairs Doug and Holly Brooks hosted approximately 1,000 guests at the “cowboy chic” party that included a cocktail reception, sit-down dinner and both live and silent auctions. The Dallas String Quartet Electric provided the entertainment, and many big-ticket items were auctioned off, including two tickets to the final round of the Masters Golf Tournament, a private sailboat getaway through the British Virgin Islands and two private dinners at Chef Kent Rathbun’s house.

The Dallas Flea Returns This Weekend!

Baylor Scott & White Partners with Canine Companions for Independence

Baylor Scott & White, the largest health care system in Texas, is partnering with Canine Companions for Independence, a premier animal assistance provider, to bring the program to life.

 

By understanding the value of service animals in health care and the power of long-term therapies, Baylor Scott & White Health is opening the Kinkeade Center, on Nov. 9, in Irving. The center will provide children, veterans and other individuals with physical and developmental disabilities, highly trained assistance dogs and will give them the long-term care they need.

The partnership with Canine Companions allows people with disabilities, including wounded veterans, to receive a service dog in order to advance their quality of life. Service dogs typically cost on average $50,000; however, through Baylor Scott & White¹s partnership with Canine Companions for Independence and through the generous gifts of donors, patients receive the assistance animal free of charge.

Opening Veteran's Day week, the center is conveniently located near several major military bases, including Fort Hood in Killeen and Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, making it possible for recipients to stay closer to home while undergoing training.

The nine-acre campus includes training spaces, six dormitory rooms for recipients to stay during training, 24 kennels, a state-of-the art veterinary clinic and grooming area. The training center will eventually be capable of graduating approximately 60 service dog teams per year and will also host reunions and workshops for returning teams.

The Spirit of Taos event was recently hosted by the Friends of Wilkinson Center at The Lot in Lakewood.

The event kicked off with a cocktail hour from 7-8pm that featured frozen margaritas and margaritas on the rocks followed by a seated dinner with food from The Lot and dessert by Emporium Pies.  Guests danced throughout the evening to tunes from Frank in the Middle and Downtown Fever.

There was also a Kendra Scott station set up where jewelry mystery boxes were sold for $60/per box. Each box contained a piece of jewelry that ranged in value from $60-$120. KeoPix photobooth was set up for guests to take pictures with fun props.

The 43 Club Hosts First Fall Party Under Big Texas Sky

On October 17, the George W. Bush Presidential Center’s 43 Club brought a taste of the Western White House to the heart of Dallas, hosting the first Fall Party on the Bush Center grounds.

 The 43 Club, the Bush Center’s young professionals group—led by honorary chairs Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Bush—rounded up members and their guests for an evening of good food and great music under the crisp Texas sky.

Guests enjoyed a delicious popcorn bar with many flavors to choose from.

The night’s line-up included a dinner performance by country star Jack Ingram, followed by a dance party featuring The DJ vs. Violin, and specialty cocktails from favorite Texas distilleries: TX Whiskey, Deep Eddy Vodka, and Dulce Vida Tequila.

 Led by a Trailblazer committee that includes Court Alley, Gloria Moncrief Holmsten, and Stephen Summers, among others, the 43 Club launched earlier this year and offers members all the benefits of Bush Center membership, plus invitations to premium events like the Fall Party.

TWU Virginia Chandler Dykes Announces Honoree Francie Moody-Dahlberg

Francie Moody-Dahlberg, executive director and a trustee of The Moody Foundation as well as a director of the Moody Endowment, has been named the recipient of the 14^th Annual Virginia Chandler Dykes Leadership Award, presented by Bank of Texas and Texas Woman’s University and the Texas Woman’s University Foundation.

National Philanthropy Day Celebrates 30 Years with Luncheon

The Greater Dallas Chapter of Association of Fundraising Professionals will host the 30^th luncheon celebrating Dallas’ National Philanthropy Day – bringing together area nonprofits, volunteers, funders, foundations, business and community members to honor many of this city’s finest who give selflessly in support of numerous worthy causes – on Friday, November 13, 2015, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Hyatt Regency Dallas, Landmark Ballroom.  On this special anniversary year, Dallas Philanthropist Nancy Dedman, serving as the event’s first honorary chair, will join AFP and presenting sponsor KERA to honor award recipients in seven categories.
