Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity Announces Wynonna Judd as Featured Entertainer for Celebration Dinner

Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity announces five-time Grammy award-winning artist Wynonna Judd will perform an acoustic set at the upcoming Building Hope Celebration Dinner presented by Pioneer Natural Resources, a Texas-style celebration in support of the 2014 Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project on Thursday, October 9 at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

 

Event chairmen Lynn and Allan McBee, along with honorary chairmen Karen and Stephen Jones, will welcome 1,000 attendees for this special evening.  Highlights will include a sponsor reception presented by Amanda and G. Brint Ryan, cocktails, multi-course dinner on the field and performance by the inimitable Wynonna. 

 

Five-time Grammy winner and New York Times bestselling author, Wynonna has always revolved her career around telling stories.  Whether performing alongside her mother as one half of the legendary duo The Judds, or pushing the boundaries on her own mega-successful solo path, Wynonna’s ability to reach the heart of the human spirit through her bold and unflinching honesty, is the entertainer’s true gift.

 

The Building Hope Celebration Dinner supports the 2014 Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project, where thousands of volunteers will help to build hope for low-income families in North Texas the week of October 5-11, 2014. 

 

For 30 years, former President Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, have given a week of their time to help Habitat for Humanity improve and build homes throughout the world. The Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project helps raise awareness for the critical need for simple, decent and affordable housing.  Throughout the week of October 5-11, thousands of volunteers from around the world will join President and Mrs. Carter to help build or repair more than 100 homes in Dallas and Fort Worth.

 

Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity and Trinity Habitat for Humanity are honored to be the host sites for the Carter Work Project, which will take place in the East Oak Cliff neighborhood in Dallas and the Central Meadowbrook neighborhood in Fort Worth.

Dallas Habitat's Building Hope Celebration Kick-Off

Co-chairs Lynn and Allan McBee, along with honorary chairs Karen and Stephen Jones, welcomed over fifty committee members for a cocktail reception kicking off the upcoming Building Hope Celebration Dinner presented by Pioneer Natural Resources on Wednesday, June 11 at the home of Micki and Mayor Mike Rawlings Upon arrival guests were greeted by hosts Mayor and Mrs. Rawlings before mingling over wine and delicious hors d’oeuvres from Cassandra Fine Catering and admiring the beautiful contemporary venue.

Midway through the evening, Mrs. Rawlings welcomed guests and toasted the crowd for their support of the October 9 fundraiser, which in her own words, “will be an historic event for Dallas as thousands of volunteers from around the country will have the opportunity to see the incredible work that is being done in our great city to revitalize neighborhoods by providing affordable housing for low-income families.”

 

Co-chair Lynn McBee then reminded everyone that President Carter will turn 90 years old four days before the 31st annual build begins. Adding, “what an amazing volunteer he has been for Habitat, as well as an incredible example to us all on giving back to the

community.”

Bill Hall, president and CEO of Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity, added his thanks to the event co-chairs, honorary chairs as well as committee chairs and the event committee. “The revitalization efforts that will take place through out the week of this nationally recognized Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project, can only happen because of the strong leadership present here tonight,” remarked Hall.

First Annual Community Training Institute

The Women’s Council of Dallas County is hosting the first annual Community Training Institute (CTI) on April 25th in North Dallas at Temple Emanu-El. CTI is a half-day educational seminar of general sessions and workshops for nonprofit leadership in DFW, and is presented in the style of the former Community Board Institute, a unique collaborative program for the nonprofit community that was held in Dallas for more than 33 years.

CTI seminars are designed for senior and mid-level leadership in nonprofit organizations as well as board members, civic-minded corporate executives, foundations and graduate students.

CTI’s done-in-a-half-day program features two keynote speakers: Major General Mary Saunders (Ret. USAF), Executive Director, Leadership Institute, Texas Woman’s University, General Morning Session; and Jennifer Sampson, CEO, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, Luncheon Session. Workshop topics include: How to Maximize Volunteers’ Time and Engagement; Nonprofit Outcomes: Finding Measurements That Matter; HR: Reviews, Development and Staffing to Keep and Grow the Right Staff; Social Media and Marketing: Picking the Right Tool; and Finding the Elusive Money Tree: Growing New Sponsors in a Tough Economy.

CTI will culminate with a luncheon presentation of the 57th awards program of the Women’s Council. Award recipients include: Distinguished Public Service – Lisa Hembry, CEO, LIFT; Member Organization – Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity; Individual Member – Sharon King, VP, CCCS; and Woman of the Year – Jennifer Sampson, CEO, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. Grant beneficiaries are: Child Abuse Prevention Center; ChildCareGroup, and North Texas Food Bank.
