4th Annual Dallas Hunger Summit

The Dallas Coalition for Hunger Solutions, chaired by U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, will hold its fourth annual Dallas Hunger Summit, encouraging the exchange of ideas and strengthening partnerships for maximum impact on food insecurity and hunger among seniors, children, and families in Dallas County. The event brings together representatives from nonprofit organizations, diverse faith congregations, the business community, the health community, social service agencies and governmental entities.
Summit attendees will learn about the current hunger and poverty landscape in Dallas County and discover opportunities to collaborate to decrease hunger and food insecurity among their neighbors.
Some of the strategies and topics to be covered include:
• Activities faith communities can undertake that will have a significant and sustainable impact on reducing hunger;
• Increasing the capacity of school districts to provide healthy food during afterschool programming;
• Opportunities to advocate for improvements to federal child nutrition programs;
• Awareness of and solutions to the specific needs and challenges that seniors face in getting access to healthy food;
• Making it easier to start urban gardens and farms to promote community economic development and healthy food access; and
• Ideas for how neighborhoods can organize to create local solutions to hunger and poverty.

There will be a tour of the Encore Park Community Garden immediately following the Hunger Summit.
