Crow Museum of Asian Art unveils 2025-26 exhibitions

 This fall, the Crow Museum of Asian Art announces seven new exhibitions opening across its Dallas Arts District and UT Dallas campus locations, alongside a robust schedule of public programs and community events. 

These exhibitions – paired with community programs like lectures, concerts, a family-fun Community Day, and the return of the Mystical Arts of Tibet weeklong sand mandala/painting residency – reflect the Crow Museum’s mission to celebrate Asian art and culture across time, space, and media.

Fall 2025 Exhibitions

This season’s new exhibitions will be on view across the Crow Museum’s two locations in the Dallas Arts District (2010 Flora St., Dallas) and the new museum space at the Edith and Peter O’Donnell Jr. Athenaeum on the UT Dallas campus (800 W. The digital art experience is designed by Sara Dittrich, an interdisciplinary artist based in Baltimore, and SV Randall, UT Dallas Assistant Professor of Visual and Performing Arts.

Mounds and Mist: Kondo Traditions in Clay

Sept. 27, 2025-May 31, 2026

A focused exhibition examining the layered legacy of Kondo ceramic traditions, this exhibition celebrates the achievement of four members of the Kondo family: Kondo Yuzo (1902–1985); his sons Yutaka (1932–1983) and Hiroshi (1936–2012); and his grandson Takahiro (born 1958).

Whiskers and Paws: Cecilia Chiang

A playful and poignant exhibition celebrating the emotional bonds between humans and their beloved companions, Whiskers and Paws is an excerpt of self-taught artist Cecilia Chiang’s nature-focused work and primarily serves as a nod to her childhood.

A remarkable look at early Chinese ceramic traditions drawn from one of the most significant private collections in the U.S., this exhibition – consisting of 45 pottery vessels selected from the MacLean Collection – offers insight into ancient craftsmanship, aesthetic innovation and the material culture of early China.

Paper Knife: Objects of Beauty in Early Modern Japan

Nov. 8, 2025-Aug. 29, 2027

Exploring the artistry and refinement of small-scale decorative objects, this exhibition highlights the cultural value and craftsmanship embedded in daily-use items in early modern Japan.

Eliza Au: Squaring the Circle (Texas Ties series)

Nov. 15, 2025-March 1, 2026

Featuring intricately designed ceramic sculptures by Texas-born artist Eliza Au, this major solo exhibition explores ornament through the built environment, ceramics and design. Au is the second artist featured in the Crow Museum’s Texas Ties exhibition series, which showcases artists with connections to the Lone Star State.

62nd Art Ball Gala Celebrates MOMENTUM

 

The Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) is pleased to announce details for this year’s Art Ball 2024 presented by Neiman Marcus.  Entitled "MOMENTUM,” this year’s fundraiser will celebrate 62 years of remarkable achievements on Saturday, April 13, 2024. This spectacular evening will take place at the DMA and feature an evening of dinner, drinks, a live auction, and an exciting afterparty.

Leading this year’s efforts are co-chairs Andy Smith and Paul von Wupperfeld. Both gentlemen bring their enthusiasm for helping the community and professional expertise to their role as co-chairs of Art Ball 2024. A fifth-generation Texan, Smith is the director of Giving and Volunteering for Texas Instruments and is the executive director of the TI Foundation. von Wupperfeld is currently the public relations manager at Qorvo semiconductor, where he leads the company’s social media and press communications.

Momentum was selected as this year’s theme as it embodies the pulsating force propelling the Dallas Museum of Art forward, infusing the Dallas Arts District with a vibrant sense of energy and progression. Barbara Glass, president of AWARE, is delighted to announce AWARE Affair 2021: CELEBRATE THE MOMENTS – Alzheimer’s Myths Unveiled happening on Friday, April 16, 2021 and co-chaired by The Women of AWARE Affair: Carol Stabler, Barbara Glass, Stacey Jones Angel, Sharon Ballew, Stephanie Bray, Janet Broyles, Emily Collins, Karen Carney, Cheryl Chantilis, Kay Hammond, Jolie Humphrey, Karisti Julia, Josey Kennington, Wendy Kumpf, Paige Rippey Locke, Becky Mills, Holly Hull Miori, Gail Plummer, Barbara Sypult, Venise Stuart, Sharon Walker. 

          Kay Hammond is the Founders Award Honoree and Carol Stabler is the Amy Osler Spirit of Education Leadership Award honoree.  Honorary Chairs Emeriti are Sally and Forrest Hoglund, Kim and David McDavid, Jr.; Ellen Terry with her daughter Amy Terry Kriegel and son, Todd Terry.

          The Charlotte and Donald Test Pavilion will feature chef driven tasting experiences and botanical cocktails. The surrounding edible gardens of A Tasteful Place will be transformed into the “AWARE Grant Recipient Gallery” featuring interactive vignettes highlighting the work of the dedicated organizations who provide programs, services, education, and resources to those living with or caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s.

          In the adjacent Three Sisters Lagoon Overlook, AWARE Men will present a special “Scotch and Sliders” experience and the Barbara and Bob Bigham Scenic Overlook will be transformed into an outdoor amphitheater overlooking downtown Dallas and White Rock Lake. 

          The evening will continue with an unveiling of Alzheimer’s myths, a presentation to the 2021 Amy Osler Spirit of Education Leadership and Founder’s Award recipients plus a rousing live auction of one-of-a-kind experiences all taking place inside Rosine Hall. Guests will also be able to bid on silent auction packages under the Rodriguez Gazebo and enjoy sweets and desserts in the Ginsburg Family Plaza. 

          This festive evening will ensure the comfort of guests and adhere to the most current safety guidelines recommended by the CDC and the WHO. For those guests unable to attend in person, AWARE will offer a simulcast Virtual Experience Catering Package which includes a four-course dinner and wine for two delivered to your home.

Arts & Letters Live: Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt at DMA

Written with grace and understanding, and based on more than 20 in-depth interviews and stories as well as personal reflections from Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt herself, The Gift of Forgiveness is about one of the most difficult challenges in life—learning to forgive. The book features experiences from those well known and unknown, including Elizabeth Smart, who learned to forgive her captors; Sue Klebold, whose son, Dylan, was one of the Columbine shooters, learning empathy and how to forgive herself; Chris Williams, who forgave the drunken teenager who killed his wife and child; and Schwarzenegger Pratt's challenges and path to forgiveness in her own life. DMA Art Ball 2016 Was a Beautiful Canvas of Color

The Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) hosted Art Ball 2016: Art + Architecture with more than 400 guests on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at the Dallas Museum of Art. Ann and David Sutherland served as this year’s Art Ball Co-chairs.

At 7:45 p.m., a 30-foot tall curtain dramatically opened revealing another Todd Events masterpiece of contemporary reds, greens, and yellows. Sprays of yellow florals, moss drenched chandeliers, and oversized head tables in the shape of a plus sign tied the room into a sensory wonderland.

The Dallas String Quartet provided lively and electric dinner entertainment while patrons feasted on a multi-course dinner catered by Cassandra Fine Catering, which included lobster, duck and fish courses. The live auction, assembled by interior architectural designer Trisha Wilson and sponsored by Christie’s, proved spectacular with items including a Dallas sports package, Napa Valley Wine country getaway and an African Safari at the Izingwe Lodge, a private South African lodge home on the 82,000-acre Welgevonden Private Game Reserve, located in the Waterburg mountain region.

DMA Announces Art Ball Theme for 50th Anniversary Celebration

Eugene McDermott Director Maxwell L. Anderson and Art Ball Chairman Nancy Carlson recently announced that Art Ball 50: Self Portrait, benefiting the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA), will be held Saturday, April 11, 2015.

Art Ball 50 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Art Ball and will feature a host committee comprised of past Art Ball Chairs. Proceeds from Art Ball directly affect the DMA’s ongoing commitment to providing access to its collection and a wide range of exhibitions and educational and public programs to the community.

Guests gathered in Grange Hall for the highly anticipated announcement party where Anderson and Carlson pronounced that a special year deserves a special theme, and for Art Ball 50, the theme will be “Self Portrait.”

This year’s theme embodies reflection and will also tie in several self--‐portraits by acclaimed artists in the Dallas Museum of Art collection. The 50th annual gala will include a multi--‐course seated dinner, a luxury live auction, and a festive after party chaired by Jackie Bolin and Erin Wasson.

Dallas’ premier party planner, Todd Fiscus of Todd Events, will help to execute Carlson’s vision by creating an ethereal and edgy atmosphere in a tented space through the use of mirror components, projections and bit map technology. After dinner, the area will be transformed into the after party, “Selfie,” where guests will dance the night away.

DMA's Late Night Creative Cocktail Contest

 

Like wine and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, or salt and pepper, you can create the perfect pair! Dallas Museum of Art's Creative Cocktail Contest is calling all connoisseurs of art and alcohol to create a cocktail inspired by a work of art in their collection.

 

How to enter:
1. Choose a work of art from the DMA’s collection that inspires you.
2. Develop a cocktail recipe inspired by this work of art and create a fun (or even punny) name for the drink.
3. Submit your cocktail name and recipe, and the name of the artwork that inspired you, to publicprograms@DMA.org by Monday, December 1, at 5:00 p.m.

 

DMA staff and Executive Chef will test your recipes and name the winner and four finalists on Monday, January 5.

 

The winner will receive a great prize package, including a DMA partnership, and their cocktail will be featured as the main drink in the Atrium on the January Late Night.  Finalists will receive a signed copy of Tim Federle’s book Tequila Mockingbird, and their drinks will be featured on a special drink menu during the January Late Night.
