Give Back, Buy a Backpack - June campaign

The Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC) and Comerica Bank have partnered to serve the most severely abused children in Dallas County. DCAC’s second annual Give Back, Buy a Backpack month-long campaign takes place this month, and Comerica Bank is the title sponsor. In 2013, 987 DCAC clients received backpacks filled with new school supplies.

This year, with the support of Comerica, DCAC will supply 1,000 children with backpacks and necessary supplies for a successful school year. The backpacks will also include school uniforms and gift cards for any extra items the children may need, including basics like underwear, shoes and socks.

President and CEO of the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, Lynn M. Davis states, “This campaign is a quick and easy way to make a difference in the life of a child, by providing them with the tools and resources they need to be successful in school. We are thankful for companies like Comerica who truly care about children in the Dallas Community.”

J. Patrick Faubion, Texas Market President for Comerica Bank, said “In addition to Comerica sponsoring the back to school drive, our volunteers are excited about helping stuff the backpacks with brand new supplies and clothing, and presenting the children and their families with their back to school kits in July.”

$25 donation provides a backpack and supplies for a child. To follow the campaign, visit dcac.org and sign up for the email updates. Individuals, companies, and organizations interested in volunteering with the campaign can contact Becky at baguilar@dcac.org.

Spin for School Supplies

Book your bike for a special 45-minute spin ride at Flywheel Highland Park on Friday, July 19 at 6:00 PM, and your $25 donation secures your seat in class and, in thanks to a special matching incentive from The Donachie Foundation, purchases TWO new backpacks filled with school supplies for a child in need in Dallas!

Spin to songs that were your school yard anthems, from Kris Kross to Britney and Alice Cooper. There will be a throwback jam to take everyone back to their glory days in this special playlist! Wear your favorite gear from high school (from your basketball jersey to a favorite t-shirt) to rep what you were all about back in the day.

Sometimes the only difference between an A+ student and a failing student is having basic supplies to do homework and participate in class. Because 80% of the children served by Community Partners of Dallas live on a family income of less than $14,000 annually, after the most basic of needs of the family are met, school supplies may not fit into that budget.

You can send hurting children in Dallas back to school encouraged and hopeful with their new school supplies while we spin to the hits. Please bring your mother, your brother, your sister and your friends to this special charity event. Class will end with a slice of birthday cake for all attendees to celebrate Lilly's birthday! To RSVP for your bike, email dallas@flywheelsports.com

Honorary Card to Thank Teachers

Community Partners of Dallas (CPD) is such an amazing organization and they have found a fun, innovative way to raise money for children to start the school year with the right supplies. In conjunction with their Back to School Drive, they are asking for a small price, then you are able to write an Honorary card to thank all of your wonderful teachers.

You are giving a teacher who commits to helping their students learn a beautiful card AND helping to provide school supplies. This is certainly a gift that keeps giving! Parents, if you are blanking out on a good gift for that special teacher, this sounds like a definite winner!

If you would like to honor someone, please CLICK HERE to fill out the form, which will ask all the other questions CPD needs to know. Everyone loves to get mail, you decide if you want to personally mail it or have CPD do it for you.
