DFW Truck Farm 5K Fun Run

Truck Farm began in 2009 when a mini-farm was planted in the bed of a 1986 Dodge pickup truck. Now, the farm is a fleet of 25 trucks located in 25 different cities across the U.S., including Dallas.

On April 22, Earth Day Dallas will host the DFW Truck Farm 5K Fun Run prior to the festival’s Sunday kickoff at Fair Park. Proceeds from the race will benefit the DFW Truck Farm, which is used to teach kids and the community about growing local foods and gardening in small spaces.

Registration for the fun run is online now at dfwtruckfarm.com, with the first 100 registrants receiving a picnic blanket for the opportunity to break the record for the world’s largest simultaneous picnic after the run, sponsored by the Nature Conservancy. The cost is $35 until April 21 and $40 on race day, with proceeds benefiting DFW Truck Farm. Packet pickup will take place at Luke’s Locker April 19-21. Day-of race registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at Fair Park, with the race kicking off at 8:30 a.m. Participants will pass by the Truck Farm, as well as complete “farming” challenges as they run through the course.

Race sponsors include Earth Day Dallas, Artizone, Company Café, Greenling, County Line Dairy, Luke’s Locker, Garden Café, Whole Foods, Garden Inspirations, Crazy Water, Clif Kid, Edible DFW and KAAM 770 AM. For more information about the 2012 festival, visit EarthDayDallas.org .
