I was so proud to introduce my dear friend Paula Froelich to a few of my other wonderful friends last night at the book signing I hosted along with Gigi Howard and Tricia Bolougne at the Mansion. Paula is famous for her musings on Page Six but her new novel, Mercury in Retrograde, made the New York Times bestsellers list in record time and I can't say I am surprised. Paula managed to charm each and every guest in less than 30 seconds flat and we sold out of her books! My favorite time of the evening was when I had a chance to introduce Susan Spindler of Page Six Catering to the Page Six writer! They hugged as if they were old friends and I know they will have a special bond forever! Post party, The Mansion arranged for a fantastic dinner for the author and they included the hosts and Dallas' great columnists, Holly Haber of Women's Wear Daily and Alan Peppard of The Dallas Morning News.Friday, June 19, 2009

CARE's 25th Annual Community Breakfast
One of our city's most vibrant volunteers, Lee Ann White, is the Chairman for November 9th's Chemical Awareness Resources and Education (C.A.R.E.) Breakfast. Lee Ann reminded us all in her letter about the event that chemical dependancy affects all walks of life. Her own son struggled with an addiction for fifteen years and she is proud to say that he has been sober for four years! He actually is employed at the Ranch at Dove Tree where he continues to help others battling the same disease. Lee Ann's personal passion for this cause combined with the 25th Anniversary of the event is sure to make this an extra special celebration.
She also writes that "there will be a time in each of our lives when we or someone we care for experiences symptoms of alcoholism and/or depression. Will you know how to cope? Will you know where to turn?
- Alcoholism affects more than half of all Americans.
- Abuse of prescription medications has exceeded other illicit drug abuse with the exception of marijuana.
- Up to 40% of people who drink heavily have symptoms that resermble a depressive illness."
The breakfast will take place at the Belo Mansion and Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night will be the guest speaker. I hope that you will turn up and support C.A.R.E. Sponsorships start at $500 and go up to $15,000. Email susanh.care@ymcadallas.org or call her at 214-526-8986.

Collin County Children's Advocacy Safari Soiree Gala
Walking into the Anatole Hotel for the Safari Soiree for The Collin County Children's Advocacy Gala was like being transported to luxury safari holiday. No detail was missed. Rusty Glenn's fantastic arrangements and decor brought gasps from all the guests. The auction committee did an amazing job securing exciting and varied items for bid. The guests were entertained all through dinner with a tribute to the Broadway smash hit The Lion King. Vegas Headliner Comedian Frank Caliendo had the crowd roaring with laughter with his impressions of famous people like Al Pacino, John Madden, George W., Jay Leno and many more.
The goal of the committee was to bring in $1.2 million which was a lofty goal considering the "new" ecomony. The fantastic news is we just came a few thousand short of our goal!!
