The Original Pancake House DFW Partners with UGM Dallas on Backpack Drive

The Original Pancake House DFW (OPH-DFW) has partnered with UGM Dallas to send children living in homeless shelters back to school with brand new school supplies. When Guests perform a good deed by donating supplies, OPH-DFW will return the good deed with 10% off breakfast and lunch orders. OPH-DFW will be collecting backpacks, lunchboxes, notebooks and other critical supplies beginning July 19th through August 10th at all 7 OPH-DFW locations.
The Schoolhouse Connection noted that homelessness creates significant barriers to academic success resulting in graduation and proficiency rates for homeless students significantly lower than economically disadvantaged students. Homelessness leads to chronic absenteeism that results in children falling behind.

To donate, individuals can find the nearest location at https://ophdfw.com/locations/. For more information about OPH-DFW, visit www.ophdfw.com. For more information on UGM Dallas, visit www.ugmdallas.org.

The event evokes excitement about the new school year and builds confidence by providing each child with a new backpack filled with school supplies and a new uniform.
“Every child deserves to experience success in school. The Back-to-School Celebration is not just about the backpacks, supplies and uniforms they receive; it is about enhancing the children’s belief in their future, building their self-confidence and celebrating the importance of education,” shared Sherri Ansley, CEO of Rainbow Days.

Give Back, Buy a Backpack - June campaign

The Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC) and Comerica Bank have partnered to serve the most severely abused children in Dallas County. DCAC’s second annual Give Back, Buy a Backpack month-long campaign takes place this month, and Comerica Bank is the title sponsor. In 2013, 987 DCAC clients received backpacks filled with new school supplies.

This year, with the support of Comerica, DCAC will supply 1,000 children with backpacks and necessary supplies for a successful school year. The backpacks will also include school uniforms and gift cards for any extra items the children may need, including basics like underwear, shoes and socks.

President and CEO of the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, Lynn M. Davis states, “This campaign is a quick and easy way to make a difference in the life of a child, by providing them with the tools and resources they need to be successful in school. We are thankful for companies like Comerica who truly care about children in the Dallas Community.”

J. Patrick Faubion, Texas Market President for Comerica Bank, said “In addition to Comerica sponsoring the back to school drive, our volunteers are excited about helping stuff the backpacks with brand new supplies and clothing, and presenting the children and their families with their back to school kits in July.”

$25 donation provides a backpack and supplies for a child. To follow the campaign, visit dcac.org and sign up for the email updates. Individuals, companies, and organizations interested in volunteering with the campaign can contact Becky at baguilar@dcac.org.
