Eye Ball 2012 - A Night for Sight

The Department of Ophthalmology at UT Southwestern and Prevent Blindness Texas are proud to announce the 12th annual black tie fundraising gala, Eye Ball 2012 - A Night For Sight.

The event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25th at 7 pm and will feature a cocktail party, seated dinner, live music from the Brent Van Sickle orchestra and an evening that concludes with after-dinner coffee. Tickets are $300, $500, or $1000 each, with tables ranging from $3,000 to $25,000.

The nearly $3 million raised from previous Eye Ball galas has been used to fund critical research at UT Southwestern as well as fund free public education and vision screening programs hosted by Prevent Blindness Texas.

The Elisa Project 11th Annual Symposium for the Treatment and Prevention of Eating Disorders

The Elisa Project is a wonderful organization in our community and it is that time of the year for their 11th Annual Symposium for the Treatment and Prevention of Eating Disorders. Their keynote speaker is Walter Kaye, MD. He is the renowned Director of the Eating Disorder Treatment and Research Program at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center. He has studied and headed the largest study on genetics and anorexia, ever. His quiet demeanor certainly cannot hide his passion for finding the key factors behind disordered eating.

Other well-known speakers from extremely established institutions include: Carolyn Becker, Ovidio Bermudez, Kimberly Dennis, Craig Johnson, Michael Lutter, Carrie McAdams, Angela Rediak-Olcese, Stephanie Setiff and Jeffrey Zigman.

Individuals with eating disorders continue to go up, therefore prevention and treatment are key.

Details: This event attracts more than 500 prominent business and civic leaders from Collin and Dallas counties. The Gala is also raffling off a trip to Super Bowl XLV. Proceeds from the Yellow & Black Tie Gala benefit Methodist Richardson Cancer Center, which is affiliated with UT Southwestern Medical Center. The theme this year is “Harvest of Hope” because organizers want to focus on fighting hope with cancer.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month?

How can you help? Children’s Cancer Fund has planned two exciting events to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer. It is also a great time to make a donation in honor of a child you know who is battling this terrible disease.

CCF will host its 3rd Annual Comedy Show

on Wednesday, September 15th

at Hyena’s Comedy Nightclub in Mockingbird Station

In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the event will raise funds through admission, raffle ticket, and silent auction sales for pediatric cancer research and treatment programs at Children’s Medical Center and UT Southwestern Medical Center of Dallas. The Chair of this event, Cara “CC” Carmickle, is very excited to raise awareness and funds for such a worthy cause. Join us for a night filled with laughter to make a difference!

SBB Management's 2nd Annual Golf Classic

Fred Shapiro of SBB Management is an Advisory Board Member of CCF. He raised near $40,000 from this event in 2009, and he hopes to exceed that amount this year. The event is held in honor of Fred's daughter Melinda, who is a pediatric cancer survivor.

Children’s Cancer Fund (CCF) was founded in 1982 by a coalition of parents whose children were receiving cancer therapy at Children’s Medical Center. The organizers have since been joined by community leaders, dedicated volunteers and health professionals in their fundraising efforts. CCF is one of the nation’s leading fundraising groups in supporting local research toward treatment and prevention of childhood cancers.

CCF relies on the dedication and expertise of several community leaders, including Roger and Marianne Staubach and Troy Aikman, to set the vision, direction and mission of the Children’s Cancer Fund.
