Save the Date - Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge Opening Weekend

Planning for the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge Opening Celebration continues, and the dates are now set for the weekend of March 2, 2012. Construction crews are stringing 58 elegant cables on this signature bridge designed by internationally known architect, engineer and artist Santiago Calatrava. The bridge will be Calatrava's first vehicular bridge to be built in the U.S. to connect Singleton Blvd. in West Dallas across the Trinity River to Woodall Rodgers in downtown Dallas.

Community leader Lynn McBee and The Trinity Trust and Trinity Commons Foundation are leading the planning for this momentous occasion.

The honorary event chairs for the grand opening weekend include the three Dallas mayors who have worked and continue to work on The Trinity project: The Honorable Ron Kirk, The Honorable Laura Miller, and The Honorable Tom Leppert, as well as the soon-to-be-elected new Dallas Mayor.

The Trinity Trust River Rats Host Trails of the Trinity

On June 16, more than 100 guests of the Trails of the Trinity event, sponsored by Colliers International, enjoyed nibbles from On the Border and margaritas poolside at the Plaza II at Turtle Creek. While classical guitarist Daniel Rodriguez played, attendees learned more information about the many trails of The Trinity project, with a focus on the White Rock Lake spine trail. Named the spine trail, this 12-mile planned trail will connect White Rock Lake down south to the Trinity River Audubon Center through the Great Trinity Forest, which consists of 6,000 acres of hardwood forests.

This event was hosted by The Trinity River Rats, a membership group of The Trinity Trust, comprised of young enthusiasts dedicated to supporting The Trinity project. With a focus on education and increasing public awareness about the project, their goal is to build support of The Trinity project among Dallas' young leaders in an effort to enhance life for the Dallas community through environmental, recreational and economical efforts. Membership benefits include access to The Trinity Trust lecture series, which features prominent speakers. Members are also invited to exclusive events, canoe trips down the Trinity River and hikes through the Great Trinity Forest. Memberships are $100 per individual or couple. The Trinity Trust raises funds and public awareness to implement the Balanced Vision Plan for The Trinity project in conjunction with the City of Dallas. The Trinity Trust has established The Trinity Center as the gathering place for all civic and non-profit groups working to revitalize the Trinity River in Dallas. It houses the offices of the Trinity Trust Foundation, Texas Horse Park, Groundwork Dallas and Trinity Strand Trail, and hosts meetings, workshops and events for these organizations and the Trinity Commons Foundation. Bridging the Trinity Party

Celebrate the construction of the stunning new Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge while listening to area musicians and munching on delicious treats and vodka-flavored snowcones from the Continental Bridge, the unique site for the Bridging the Trinity Party. This event, chaired by Lynn McBee will start at 7:30pm on Friday, September 25.

The internationally acclaimed and award-winning architect of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, Santiago Calatrava will be an honored guest at the event and will be there to talk about it. Joining him will be Mayor Tom Leppert and National Honorary Chairs U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson. Mary McDermott Cook, Al Hill, Jr., Lyda Hill and Alinda Wikert are serving as Honorary Chairs.

Underwriting sponsorships are $500 to $5,000. Individual tickets are $150.

Proceeds will go to The Trinity Trust Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the community and raising private funds for The Trinity Project. The Trinity Project is one of the nation's largest urban developments. Plans include a whitewater course, two downtown lakes, ball fields, an ampitheater and hike and bike trails. It is a $2 billion public works project.
