The Trains at NorthPark Opens November 13

Honorary Chairs Candice & Tony Romo are helping Ronald McDonald House of Dallas kick off the Holiday season

On November 13, the holiday season officially begins when the Trains at NorthPark hit the tracks, bringing joy and wonder to thousands of families who visit the exhibit. Since inception, the Trains at NorthPark has raised over $14 million for Ronald McDonald House Dallas (RMHD) and helped provide a home away from home for 40,000 families with sick and injured children. In its 40th Anniversary year, RMHD is inviting everyone to participate in the celebration by purchasing tickets at www.thetrainsatnorthpark.com, or even purchasing a one-of-a-kind railcar now available for sale.

Running until January 2, 2022, the Trains at NorthPark is the largest miniature train exhibit in Texas with more than 750 railcars featuring the organizations, families and individuals who make this beloved event possible. Purchasing a railcar before December 7 will guarantee it being on the tracks before the end of the season. Covid protocols following CDC guidelines will be in place during the six-week run.

The Trains at NorthPark will open at 10am on Saturday, November 13, on the 2nd level of NorthPark mall between Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. With 1,600 feet of tracks rolling from coast to coast on a whimsical journey across the United States, the Trains travel from the Fall foliage of New England to San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge with stops along the way in New York, Arizona and Colorado.

Tickets for The Trains at NorthPark are $5 for children ages 2-12 and seniors over 65. Adults are $10, while children under two years of age are admitted for free.

“My grandmother had five children of her own, and during her lifetime, she also had 36 foster children!” exclaimed Whitman.  “She was an angel on earth.  Seeing my grandmother’s joy in serving others had a huge impact on me.”

Whitman provided the keynote address titled, “Adventures in Philanthropy:  How Trying To Give Back Changed My Life And Career,” at the Dallas Junior Forum 40th Anniversary spring luncheon on April 26, at the Belo Mansion and Pavilion. Luncheon chair was Mary Cartwright, and WFAA’s Jane McGarry served as mistress of ceremonies.

Ashley Sims, Carrie Arnot

The Trains at NorthPark Opens with Kid Conductor Blowing Whistle and Cutting Ribbon

Every year, Ronald McDonald House of Dallas selects a Kid Conductor to blow the whistle to open their signature event, The Trains at NorthPark. This holiday, Ruth Daniel, six years old, filled this role and opened the event November 22. Miss Daniel is a patient Dr. Jeffrey Fearon who is serving as Honorary Co-Chair with his wife, Regen.

Dr. Fearon, a craniofacial surgeon, has treated many children who have stayed at the House. On October 27, he performed craniofacial surgery to help Ruth with her severe sleep apnea (by having a Le Forte 1 with a halo distraction performed). He also pinned her ears to better fit her hearing aid and glasses.
Ronald McDonald House of Dallas' signature fundraiser, The Trains at NorthPark, is rolling through town now through Jan. 4, 2015. Pictured here are Diane Fullingim, Ronald McDonald House of Dallas Chief Development Officer; Tia Wynne, Trains event co-chair; Meredith Land, NBC5 anchor and emcee for Sneak Peek; Jamie Singer, Trains event co-chair; and Jill Cumnock, Ronald McDonald House of Dallas Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Fearon said, “The Ronald McDonald House of Dallas is a unique and very special place. It provides a warm supportive environment where families who have a sick child needing specialized treatment that takes them far from home can rest and decompress from all the associated stresses. My patients uniformly have nothing but wonderful things to say about the House.”

Her mother, Robin Daniel, said, “Although she has Down Syndrome and is hearing impaired, she doesn't let diagnosis define her. She is incredible and such a blessing to our lives.”
5 Honorary Co-chairs Regen Fearon and Dr. Jeffrey Fearon, John Daniel (dad), Kid Conductor Ruth Daniel, Robin Daniel (mom), Jeremiah Daniel (baby)
Ruth was adopted into Robin and John Daniel’s loving family who resides in Tyler. The Daniels have seven children, five of whom were adopted: John David (14), Joshua (11), Rachel (10), Rebekah (8), Josiah (7), Ruth (6), Jeremiah (16 months). They are in the process of adopting their eighth child, a daughter from China, Rose (2 ½).

It’s families like the Daniel’s that the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas supports, especially with its largest fundraiser, The Trains at NorthPark, presented by Bank of Teas, which raises nearly a third of its operating budget.

This family favorite rolls through January 4, 2015, and is located on Level One near Nordstrom. Visit www.thetrainsatnorthpark.com for more information.

Ronald McDonald House of Dallas “Share the Love” Fundraiser Set for May 16

On May 16, 2014, people across the Metroplex will join together to show support and spread awareness of the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas’ mission by wearing the 2014 “Share the Love” t-shirt. Businesses, civic organizations and community groups are asked to show their love by purchasing and wearing this t-shirt. The purchase of these shirts directly helps families staying at the House, which has the tagline “the House That Love Built.”

Jill Cumnock, CEO of Ronald McDonald House of Dallas, said, “Families staying at the House are asked to contribute $15 a night toward the cost of their stay. However, they are never turned away for the inability to pay. When you purchase a ‘Share the Love’ t-shirt, you are helping support a home-away-from-home for a family with a sick or injured child.”

In addition to wearing a “Share the Love” t-shirt, the Dallas House will also host a BBQ dinner at 5:30 p.m. in honor of the families staying at the House and the sponsors. Dinner is provided for an additional donation of $15 per person at http://isharethelove.org/. Cumnock added, “Sharing a meal with families who stay with us is something we want to do to share our love with them. We also want to add a special thanks to Spring Creek BBQ’s James Carroll, who is also our Ronald McDonald House of Dallas Young Friends president, for donating the dinner.”

On May 16, t-shirt wearers are encouraged to host events and to share photos of themselves and their groups via social media at https://www.facebook.com/rmhdallas and @RMHDallas. Cumnock said, “We encourage businesses to host events sporting the shirts. Last year, for example, Lute Riley Honda purchased shirts for all 185 employees and hosted a cookout lunch that General Manager Dan Weiss grilled all by himself for the House.”

To place a t-shirt order, visit http://www.rmhdallas.org/news-and-events/share-the-love/,  http://isharethelove.org/ or contact Kimberly Conley at 214.631.7354.
