Hispanic 100 Latina Giving Circle at Texas Women’s Foundation Delivers $115,000 to North Texas Nonprofits

The Hispanic 100 (H100) Latina Giving Circle at Texas Women’s Foundation has awarded $115,000 in grants to 30 North Texas area nonprofits serving the needs of Latina women and girls in low- and moderate-income communities. Since 2019, the group has contributed $506,000 to dozens of worthy nonprofit organizations.

The H100 Latina Giving Circle at Texas Women’s Foundation was established in 2019 by the Hispanic 100 Network to further engage Latinas in philanthropy, and to expand resources for local organizations whose mission is to empower, educate and support Latinas across North Texas.

•      Hope Clinic of McKinney – Support for a medical doctor to provide care

•      Human Rights Initiative of North Texas – Support of HRI’s Crime Victims Program

•      Jubilee Park Community Center – Housing and Workforce Program for low-income residents 

•      LiftFund – Technical Assistance integration of Latina Small Business Recovery Program

•      Metrocrest Services – Metrocrest Empowerment Initiative for Women 

•      Mommies in Need – Support for Annie's Place to provide healthcare access

•      Mosaic Family Services – Support salary of a bilingual case manager

•      Primos Dallas – Support for young people to become college, career and life ready 

•      Rainbow Days, Inc. – Community Connection program for at-risk children 

•      Readers 2 Leaders – Support reading skills of underserved Dallas children 

•      Rosa es Rojo – Salary and support for SuperVive-Comunidad Virtual platform  

•      SER Jobs for Progress National, Inc. – SER STEM funds for girls to learn and compete in robotics 

•      United to Learn – Program support for public elementary schools 

•      Viola’s House Inc. – Maternity outreach program for new and expectant teen moms 

•      Wesley-Rankin Community Center – Girls of Hope and Girls of Honor courses 

•      Young Women’s Preparatory Network – Program support for all female schools

Mommies in Need Party on North Texas Giving Day

Join Mommies in Need at Monster Yogurt in Casa Linda tomorrow - Thursday, September 17th - from 11:00am to 7:00pm for a North Texas Giving Day celebration.  There will be balloons, face-painting, and donation stations.

Mommies In Need provides in-home childcare to stay at home parents going through a health crisis. We not only fund nannies for sick moms, but also provide them with someone who is vetted, background checked, CPR certified, and experienced in dealing with situations when a parent is suddenly ill. All completely free of charge to the families.

Guest Post: Mommies In Need!

Mommies In Need is 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has begun serving DFW families in an exciting new way.  Dallas is home to a large population of stay-at-home moms, but what happens to the family when the stay-at-home parent gets sick?

They don’t get disability, there are mounting medical bills, and most importantly the kids are thrown into turmoil when Mommy is no longer able to care for them. 

I was such a Mommy.  When my twin girls were 18 months old I became severely ill and wound up having to have two very difficult surgeries to remove my entire colon.  Then in the middle of that, a body scan revealed Thyroid Cancer and I was once again back in the hospital.  Throughout all of this, I was extremely lucky that my family helped us to hire a full time nanny to watch the kids.  It gave them stability in their lives, an ability to keep to their regular routines, and an amazing amount of peace of mind to me that there was someone taking wonderful care of my little ones while I healed.

So when a friend of mine with 3 young kids was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer and had no way to pay for a nanny, I stepped in and created Mommies In Need.  We provide nannies free of charge to families where the stay-at-home parent is going through a health crisis.  We got my friend through 6 months of chemo with a full time nanny and now that she is on the mend, we have accepted our next two families!  The organization is growing rapidly, and as we have more and more doctors, nurses, and hospitals referring families, we are trying to expand to help as many people as we can.
