2nd Annual Pedal for Paws

On November 16th, gear up for the second annual Pedal for Paws Mountain Bike Challenge, a charity event to benefit Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT).  The ride will be held at LB Houston Nature Preserve mountain bike trail.  All skill levels and all dog breeds welcome.

Every day, a greyhound’s track career ends and the opportunity for a new life begins. But that new life does not come free of expenses. Some greyhounds come off the track healthy, but the vast majority of them have expensive medical needs – broken legs, heartworms, tick-borne diseases, and intestinal parasites. These medical bills can run into the thousands of dollars per dog. Many greyhounds also come to GALT as strays and need medical attention and medication. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Greyhound Adoption League of Texas’ operating budget comes solely from donations from people like you.

By simply making a $15 minimum donation to Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, you can be a part of the first annual Pedal for Paws event. Because GALT is an all-volunteer organization, your money goes directly to helping the hounds. Click here to sign up.

Greyhound Adoption League of Texas: Faith, Hope, Charity

The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT) celebrates over a decade of saving greyhound lives on March 3 with the 11th annual Greyt Gala Dinner and Auction.  The annual event will be held at the Hilton Dallas in Southlake Town Square.  Reception begins at 6pm, and dinner starts at 7pm.

Former Dallas Cowboys Charlie Walters, Cliff Harris and Michael Downs, along with Major League Baseball retirees Jack Lazorko, Don Stanhouse, Mike Bascik,  Mike Phillips, John Knox and others join together to raise awareness for GALT mission of “No Grey Turned Away.”  Actor Burton Gilliam, most famously known for his role in Blazing Saddles, will also be in attendance. The annual event features cocktails, dinner, live and silent auction, and the opportunity for guests to mingle with local talents and celebrity athletes.

This year’s theme Faith, Hope, and Charity, honors three of the many abused injured greyhounds cared for by GALT over the past several years; Faith, a female missing her right ear, was removed from a hoarder (along with her 8 puppies); Hope, a stray discovered cowering under a house near a busy highway on a freezing morning after suffering for months in the open without adequate food; and, Charity, found severely underweight at only 45 pounds due to starvation.

Tickets are $125 per person or $100 per person with the purchase of two or more tickets at the same time. For over ten years, (GALT) has been the organization of choice for retired greyhounds requiring adoption services as well as the adoption organization of last resort for many injured, abused, and neglected Greyhounds.  For more information go to http://www.galtx.org/ or call John McQuade at 214-215-8216.
