Frontiers of Flight New Frontiers Gala
Frontiers of Flight Museum announced a new era and launched its DESTINATION: Frontiers platform at its recent gala, “A New Frontiers,” on October 7, 2023. With a record-setting astronaut as guest speaker and community builder and leader Toni Brinker hosting the night, it was one to remember. Presenting sponsor JSX, the museum’s next-door neighbor at Love Field, hosted the VIP reception prior to the main event, then guests enjoyed gourmet cuisine from Chef Peja Krstic (Mot Hai Ba and Ichi Ni San), live music from Ricki Derek & Band and a Wings, Watches and Whiskey live auction.

During the gala, Frontiers of Flight Museum, a Smithsonian affiliate that provides aerospace STEM education through exhibits including airplanes and spacecraft, hosted space pioneer Dr. Sian Proctor as guest speaker. Proctor is a geoscientist, educator, explorer and artist – and the first black woman to pilot a spacecraft, the SpaceX Inspiration4, the first all-civilian orbital mission.

Proctor believes that we need to actively strive for a just, equitable, diverse and inclusive (J.E.D.I.) space, both on Earth and beyond. Her talk focused on equity and equality in space exploration.
The gala also served as an introduction to Frontiers of Flight Museum’s new Chief Executive Officer Abigail Erickson-Torres, who conducted a Q&A with Proctor, as well as outlined DESTINATION: Frontiers, the museum’s plan to enter into a new era. The DESTINATION: Frontiers initiative will provide three pillars of focus that will allow the museum to sustain operations, re-ignite interest and build capacity for future generations to enjoy. The changes include bringing more diversity and inclusion to exhibits, focusing on aerospace STEM education and improving the guest experience while at the museum.

The Frontiers of Flight Museum has over 35 space vehicles and aircraft from a replica of the Wright Flyer to the one-of-a-kind “Flying Pancake,” the Apollo 7 spacecraft, 18 galleries, and over 35,000 historical artifacts on display.
The Museum is conveniently located just north of downtown at 6911 Lemmon Avenue at the southeast side of Dallas Love Field Airport, north of Mockingbird Lane.

Guest Post by Cynthia Smoot: Support Our Veterans By Attending the Annual Helping Our Heroes Dinner and Auction
You can't turn on the news these days without seeing stories about our military presence overseas. But what happens to these soldiers when they come home? How do they transition from the battlefield back to the office or car lot or kitchen? Especially is they've lost a limb or had serious injuries? Helping Our Heroes Foundation is a Dallas-based charity that works to help those that serve who now need our help to resume a "normal" life.
On Sunday, September 14 you can show your support of our injured veterans by attending the annual Helping Our Heroes Dinner and Auction at the Frontiers of Flight Museum. From 6pm to 10pm, guests will enjoy a delicious dinner from Eddie Deen's, a silent and live auction, and words of encouragement and wisdom from 2014 Guest of Honor, General Terry Drake, Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps and speaker, Semper Fi member Brandon Pelletier. Pelletier was injured during a night operation in the Al Anbar Province in 2007. His right arm was crushed at the elbow. After several years of evaluations and multiple surgeries, Brandon still has no feeling and is unable to move his arm. These trials have not kept Brandon down. You will hear about his amazing journey and many others. Funds raised from this event will go to the Semper Fi Fund which helps Marines, sailors, and their families meet their financial needs during difficult times. The Fund works closely with the Marine Corps, the Navy, and the hospitals nationwide to identify and assess the needs of specific families. If you play golf, there is also a golf tournament on Monday, September 15 at Brookhaven that you can participate in. For more information on Helping Our Heroes and the opportunities to participate, visit www.HelpingOurHeroes.us.
The Frontiers of Flight Museum is located at 6911 Lemmon Ave, Dallas, TX 75209. Tickets are $135 a seat or $1000 for a table of 8 ($125 ea.). You can purchase tickets by clicking here.

Hope’s Door is the only domestic violence shelter in Collin County. Since it first opened its doors to families 25 years ago, the organization has served thousands of domestic violence survivors by providing shelter, transitional housing, and counseling. Trained staff and volunteers have also answered more than 25,000 crisis calls and provided education and vital outreach services to families throughout the Metroplex. Event proceeds will enable Hope’s Door to continue serving families in need of domestic violence services.
