The Slipper Club of Dallas (Slipper
Club) hosted the 22nd Annual Gala & Silent Auction, “Havana
Nights,” the evening of March 10, 2018 at the Omni Dallas Hotel. The black-tie
event hosted nearly 500 people to raise funds and awareness for the Club’s
2017-2018 beneficiary, Camp Sweeney. The
Dallas-area camp is the
largest summer and year-round support program in the country for children
diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
The evening began with a dinner
hosted by Slipper Club President Meredith Allen, honoring generous donors
including: Delivery Limited, Prairie Organic Spirits, Meredith Smiley with Briggs
Freeman Sotheby's International Realty, Barbara Paschall Averitt, and The Calyx
Club. The Cuban-themed event continued with entertainment courtesy of the
musical talent represented by Rikki Rincon of Creative Juice Online and a
cigar rolling demonstration by master Cuban cigar craftsman William Rodriguez.
The energetic Ice House band served
as the evening headliner while guests enjoyed casino games, photo booth, a
silent auction and raffle.
It was the second year the Gala
was held at the Omni Dallas, hosting members of Slipper Club and their guests. Notable
attendees included: DSOL President Kay Hitzelberger and DSOL Assembly Chairman
Elizabeth Metzger, current and past Idlewild debutantes, Jennifer Lindsley,
Savannah Smartt, and Lauren Carrozza; as well as past and present officers of
Idlewild Club, Terpsichorean Club and Calyx Club, Jack Gannon, David Haines, Travis
Andres, Sam Huffines, Austin Clinkscales, and Harrison Gamso.
Gala
Chair Cari Euart, along with members of the 2017-2018 Slipper Club Board, will
present the total funds raised for Camp Sweeney at a check presentation on Monday,
April 9.
"It was an amazing
evening that came together beautifully thanks to the support of our generous
donors, corporate partners and vendors. The flowers were lush, complimented by
the most fabulous decor. The energy poured off the stage as our guests danced
in what truly felt like the streets of Havana," Euart said. "It has
been my distinct honor to serve alongside a group of likeminded women with a
desire to give back to the community, and I am thrilled Camp Sweeney is on the
receiving end of our fundraising efforts for the year."
