Nexus Recovery Center is hosting their second
annual Women’s Forum on Teen Female
Addiction presented by the President’s Society of Nexus.
The 2014 forum is entitled The Addicted Teen – Brain Disease and
Implications for Families and is sponsored by AT&T, Briggs Freeman
Sotheby's and CoHost Catering. The lunch
event is being held at the Communities Foundation of Texas Mabel Peters Caruth
Center, on October 10, 2014. Registration is at 11:30 a.m., and the program
starts at 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. The forum is complimentary to all guests, and lunch is provided.
The Nexus Women’s Forum on Addiction brings to light the plight of women and young girls in Dallas, ages 13-17, who are addicted to drugs and alcohol and suffer from trauma such as physical or sexual abuse, incarceration, homelessness and abandonment—and how that is impacting our city, community and families.

Introductory speakers are Rebecca
Crowell, Nexus’ Executive Director and event Chair Becky Frey. Attendance will primarily be women community and business leaders, philanthropists, politicians, chamber representatives, educators, media, and executives from Dallas and surrounding areas.
The feature
speaker is adolescent addiction specialist David Atkinson, M.D. Dr. Atkinson is
one of the country’s most highly rated doctors, specializing in addiction
psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. He completed medical school at
the University of Texas at Houston Medical School and completed his fellowship
at the Mayo Clinic.
