On Friday, April 11, Heart of a Warrior Charitable Foundation (HOAW) kicked off fundraising with a bang at Elm Fork Shooting Sports. Amateurs and skilled marksmen alike took aim and displayed their skills at HOAW’s annual Sporting Clay Shoot.

The 12 station Woods Course at Elm Fork Shooting Sports offered guests a variety of angles and objects, such as stationary truck beds, duck blinds and more, from which they attempted to hit a total of 100 clay targets. Wrapping up the fun and sports was a full barbecue lunch with all the “fixin’s” provided by Sonny Bryan’s Smokehouse.

Proceeds from the event
benefit the Young Warrior Summer Learning Program (YWSL) offered by HOAW. YWSL
is an eight-week academic enrichment program that targets students grades K-7th
who live in underrepresented communities in Dallas. The math and science
focused STEM-based curriculum includes a secondary objective concerning
nutrition, leadership and civic engagement, and Spanish language integration.
The program strives to help close the educational gap that summer break creates
and provide students with the academic tools to become engaged citizens and positive community
leaders.
