On Saturday, May 12th Mr. and Mrs. Steven Durham will be the honorary chairs of the North Texas Make a Wish Foundation's Night of Enchanted Wishes auction. Make a Wish is such an incredible foundation that does great things for children all over the United States. Throughout 161 counties in North Texas, the Make a Wish foundation has granted 6,200 children their wishes. This year they plan to grant 545 wishes to many children at this year's auction. Dallas does such an amazing job at helping out our community in style. I had the chance to speak with Mrs. Barbara Durham about some of her favorite aspects of the foundation.
Why is this cause so special to you?
Make a Wish Foundation is so special to me because I love seeing so many innocent children realize their wishes and allow them to live out their dreams. Volunteers are also so great in the aspect of volunteering their time to see so many children so happy.
Since Spring has now begun, what are some of your favorite activities to do during the Spring months in Dallas?
Anticipation is wonderful in Springtime. Discovering all of the blooming flowers each week, the mild weather, and then of course all of the lovely spirits people are in.
What do you do in your free time when you are not working for a charity?
In my free time, I love doing yoga, tennis, walking groups, spending time with family and pets, going to the movies, and then of course traveling.
With you being such an inspirational person in Dallas, who is it that inspires you to do bigger and better things?
Other community leaders in Dallas that I have the opportunity to meet and work with always inspire me. I find that giving back within the community is always a great learning curve and is life enriching for me.
What is your favorite quote?
I don't really have a favorite quote, however I love the golden rule. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
If you follow this rule you will never go wrong in the world.
