NEWS: TREC's Study Helps City of Dallas Secure $2.225M HUD Grant

Dallas, Texas (October 21, 2010) – U.S. Housing and Urban Development Regional Administrator C. Donald Babers and Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson announced a $2.225 million HUD grant to the City of Dallas at City Hall’s Council Chambers yesterday. The grant request was based on a study that The Real Estate Council funded on Transit Oriented Developments (TODs). The grant will support local efforts to achieve sustainable communities that link housing, transportation and services.

TREC funded $175,000 of the TOD study, Bank of America funded $100,000, and the Craig and Kathryn Hall Foundation funded $25,000

Mayor Tom Leppert introduced Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, who said, “Thanks to The Real Estate Council, DART, the Dallas Police Department, the Dallas Urban League and the City of Dallas, we have so many important partners working together to create a livable community. Thanks to Housing and Urban Development for helping make it happen.”

TREC is a leader of efforts shaping the future of Dallas including the original $1.5 million investment that spearheaded Woodall Rodgers Park, as well as $6.3 million in pro bono legal and title services and $250,000 in funding that helped create Dallas’ Urban Land Bank. The Real Estate Council Presents FightNight

Let’s get ready to rumble! The Real Estate Council is getting ready for a TKO—total knockout—this Thursday, May 6th at FightNight at the Hilton Anatole. Themed with a Las Vegas style-Rat Pack theme, the 22nd annual high energy event begins with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. followed by a seated dinner, boxing, casino gaming and a band. Super Heavy Weight Sponsors that have stepped up into the ring include Republic Title, Goldman Sachs and Archon Group.

TREC FightNight Chairman Lee Belland of Stream Realty Partners, said, “TREC FightNight provides one of the best opportunities for top decision makers to gather, but more importantly, to raise funds for the good works of TREC Foundation.”

Since its inception in 1988, TREC FightNight has grown to one of North Texas’ largest philanthropic events, raising more than $18 million to support The Real Estate Council and its good works. These funds are paired with the pro bono technical expertise of TREC members to assist in affordable housing, educational initiatives, economic development and the environment.
