30th Annual CARE Breakfast to be Held Monday, November 3rd

CARE is proud to announce former Boston Celtic’s basketball player, Chris Herren, as featured speaker of the 30th Annual Care Breakfast, presented by Bank of Texas. The breakfast will be held Monday, November 3, 2014 at 8:00 a.m. at the Omni Hotel.

Herren, who struggled with substance abuse for much of his basketball career, now shares his harrowing story of abuse and recovery.  Herren was a high school basketball legend from Fall River, Massachusetts, who scored more than 2,000 career points while at Durfee High School and was chosen for the 1994 McDonald’s All-American team. Herren realized his lifelong dream of playing in the NBA when he was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 1999 and then was traded to his hometown team, the Boston Celtics in 2000. After suffering a season-ending injury as a Celtic, Herren went on to play in five countries including Italy, Poland, Turkey, China and Iran.

“We are thrilled to have the inspiring Chris Herren as speaker and Ellen and Clayton Kershaw as Honorary Co-Chairs team up, as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of CARE,” said Shirley Cohn, CARE Breakfast Chair.
