Wee Volunteer - February Events

Wee Volunteer has some fun projects on the calendar this month.  These are great opportunities to volunteer with the little people in your life.  They can get involved in the community, learn about the current needs, meet new friends and have fun in the process!
 
Wee Symphony
Does your child like to sing or play an instrument? Does he/she take singing lessons, piano lessons or play another instrument? Lessons or not, practice your talents with Mommy Manders for the Elderly Residents at C.C. Young Retirement Community! Each child will have the opportunity for a solo performance &/or sing and play songs in a group. The cost of the project is $10 per child.Appropriate for children ages 5+

Share Our Space
Since 1986, Family Gateway has been uniquely focused on family homelessness, offering over 8,300 children and their parents the help they need to recover from crisis and make positive choices for their future.  You will tour and learn about the Family Gateway and homelessness. Then, you will join Kristen with Color Me Empowered and the kids living at the Family Gateway and together create paper sculpture art projects.
Appropriate for children ages 4 and up
The cost of the project is $10 per child to cover the cost of supplies.

... And they call it Puppy Love!
Wee Volunteer invites you and your child to volunteer at the SPCA! You will tour the SPCA and learn about animal care. Then you will show some love to the dogs by petting and playing with them. You will also have the chance to feed carrots to the horses and donkeys and apples to the pigs. The fee for this project is $10 per child to cover the cost of project including a tour fee paid to the SPCA.
Appropriate for children ages 4 - 13

Promise House
Promise House embraces homeless, runaway and at-risk teens, giving them needed support, encouragement and hope to live a better life. Their programs cover the vital needs of teens, including emergency shelter, transitional living, pregnant and parenting teen services, individual, group and family counseling, street outreach and educational intervention.
Wee volunteers will help Promise House by providing power packs for their street outreach program. Then you will have an interactive discussion about basic necessities and homelessness. Finally, you will learn about Promise House and some of the services provided with a tour of the main building. 
Appropriate for children ages 5 and up
Each child must bring Power Pack materials:
1 wash cloth, 1 travel sized body wash, 1 travel sized shampoo/conditioner combo, 1 travel sized deodorant, 1 travel sized tooth brush, 1 travel sized tooth paste and 2 non-perishable easy meal items such as granola bars or easy mac

Reading to Rise
The Rise School of Dallas is a nonprofit organization providing the highest quality of early childhood education services to children with Down Syndrome or other developmental disabilities and to children without disabilities.
World Book Day is just around the corner. Let's get ready by Reading to Rise! Wee Volunteers will learn about Rise and children with differences. Then you will join Mommy Manders and the children in The Rise after-school program for a fun book club! You will read and talk about books in a large group and break up into smaller groups for more reading fun.  Appropriate for children ages 2 and up
Please bring your child's favorite book and a book to donate! The cost of the project is $10 per child and a book.
