TASA: Silver Cup Awards Recipient

TACA Announces Peggy Sewell and Roger Nanney as the Recipients of the 2013 Silver Cup Awards

On Thursday, October 4, TACA Board of Governors, TACA Corporate Council, friends and guests gathered to celebrate the announcement of Peggy Sewell and Roger Nanney as the 2013 Silver Cup Award honorees. The announcement was made at the home of Jennifer and John Eagle. (John is a 2011 recipient of the Silver Cup Award).

Founded in 1976 by civic leader, arts advocate and former mayor Annette Strauss, the TACA Silver Cup is awarded each year to recognize one man and one woman for their outstanding contributions to the arts in Dallas. Mrs. Sewell and Mr. Nanney will receive their Silver Cups on February 22, 2013, at the 35th Annual TACA Silver Cup Award Luncheon presented by J.P. Morgan and Neiman Marcus, to be held at the Hilton Anatole Hotel.

Peggy Sewell:

Peggy Sewell has demonstrated a consistent commitment to the cultural and artistic growth of Dallas
and has long been one of its leading civic volunteers and philanthropists. She has served as a TACA
Silver Cup Awards Luncheon co-chair in 1981 and has provided leadership for numerous cultural and
civic organizations, chairing countless events for the arts and other worthy causes.

Mrs. Sewell serves on the Board of Trustees of the Dallas Museum of Art, is co-chair of the Development Committee and has served as the chair of its Silver Supper and co-chair of its annual Art Ball.

Peggy and her husband, Carl, created the Sewell Meadows Scholarships at Southern Methodist
University to provide assistance to the next generation of creative leadership. An alumna of SMU,
she has been a co-chair of the SMU Annual Giving Campaign and currently serves as a member of the Meadows School of the Arts Executive Board. In 2009, Mr. and Mrs. Sewell were the community leaders honored at “Meadows at the Meyerson” benefit concert.

Recent honors include the 2011 Profiles in Leadership Award at SMU’s 46 th Annual Women’s Symposium and the 2012 Centennial Woman of Distinction from the Girls Scouts of Northeast Texas. Mrs. Sewell serves on the Executive Advisory Council of Klyde Warren Park, is a member of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center’s Board of Visitors and the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army of Dallas/Fort Worth.

Mr. and Mrs. Sewell are the proud parents of two children, Jacquelin Taylor and Carl Sewell III, who are following in their parents’ footsteps of giving back to the community.

Mrs. Sewell said “I am honored to have been chosen for this award from TACA, an organization that has served the Dallas arts community for over 45 years. A flourishing arts culture is essential to the future of our city. I am proud of what Dallas has been able to do in the arts, and want to see the momentum continue.”

Meadows Chair at SMU says of Mrs. Sewell: “It is her spirit of service and vision that help to make Dallas a thriving cultural center.” This sentiment was echoed by Maxwell Anderson, the Eugene McDermott Director at the Dallas Museum of Art, who said “Peggy Sewell embodies philanthropic excellence through her generous spirit and assiduous leadership.”

Roger Nanney


“Roger’s selection continues the tradition of honor and prestige that this wonderful award represents,” said Bess Enloe, 1993 recipient of the TACA Silver Cup Award. Nanney is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the AT&T Performing Arts Center and Vice Chairman of Deloitte LLP, one of the nation’s leading professional services organizations.

Mr. Nanney is actively involved in various professional and community organizations. In addition to
his eight years of volunteer leadership with the AT&T Performing Arts Center during which he guided the organization through a challenging period and set the organization on a path to a stable future, his current commitments include serving as a board member, United Way of America; trustee, PGA of America Foundation; and executive board member, Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University. He has previously served as a board member of the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce and board and campaign chair of the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas.

Mr. Nanney joined Deloitte in 1982 after obtaining a B.S. and a Master of Accountancy from the
University of South Carolina. Admitted as a partner in 1990, he has built a distinguished record of
service in his 30-year career, having served many of the U.S. firms’ most significant clients and the
communities in which he has lived.

Roger and his wife Charlene are the proud parents of two children, Jessica and Trey. They recently
celebrated their first grandchild, Ella Bel Vick. All are proud to call Dallas home.

Howard Hallam, 1999 recipient of the Silver Cup Award, said of Roger’s leadership of the AT&T
Performing Arts Center, “Thanks to Roger, the AT & T Performing Arts Center is currently on firm
footing with a bright future. Now, there is no doubt that the Center will live up to and fulfill the high
expectations that its contributors and supporters anticipated.”

“It’s humbling to receive the TACA Silver Cup Award because there are so many supporters, advocates and volunteers who make a difference for the arts in our great city,” said Nanney. “I appreciate the recognition and hope that others are further inspired to support the Dallas arts community in making world class art experiences accessible for the entire community.”

Chairman of the TACA Board of Directors, Andrew Teller, said, “Peggy and Roger lead by example in their giving of themselves and their resources to the Dallas arts community. It is our privilege to honor these esteemed volunteers by awarding them the TACA Silver Cup.”

Sharon Young, who along with Jan Showers chairs this year’s TACA Silver Cup Award Luncheon,
said “Dallas is so lucky to have Peggy and Roger, both truly esteemed leaders in the arts community.
It is our privilege to honor them and recognize the extraordinary efforts of two volunteers who set an
example of excellence in all they do.”
