The Limelight: Sept 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th promotes worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides. The sponsoring International Association for Suicide Prevention, the co-sponsor WHO and other partners lead the fight against suicidal behavior through awareness and follow-up care for those in need.

It’s a frightening fact that on average, nearly 3000 people commit suicide each day. For every one person who successfully completes a suicide, 20 or more may attempt to end their lives. It’s imperative to raise awareness in that premature death through suicide can be prevented.

Although there are so many who have are inflicted by thoughts of suicide, there are also those who are fortunate to have received proper care with the support of treatments and love from family. Julie Hersh is a mother, a wife, survivor and an advocate for mental health awareness. After having survived three failed suicide attempts, Hersh courageously shares her battle with clinical depression in her book entitled, “Struck by Living.”

Hersh will share her story of struggle and triumph in a one hour breakfast. Join CONTACT on September 10 for World Suicide Prevention Day to hear Julie Hersh speak at the Ritz Carlton hotel at 8:00 am. Ticket information Bob Munro at bmunro@contactcrisisline.org
