Since 1985, the Genesis Women's Shelter has served the needs and vulnerabilities of abused women and children in the Dallas area seeking their services. These individuals are often in immediate life-threatening situations. The shelter is situated at an undisclosed location and operated by the First Presbyterian Church of Dallas and the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas.
Today, not only does the Genesis Women's Shelter provide a haven for those in need, but offers a full-time therapeutic children's program, 24-hour crisis telephone counseling, an on-site alternative school for children, group and individual therapy, positive parenting classes, and personal counseling and case management. The Genesis Women's Shelter houses over 650 women and children each year and their outreach counselers see over 1,000 individuals for free and confidential services.
