Cynthia Rowley Band-aids

We have not thought of band-aids as a fashion statement since "Barbie band-aids" in the first grade, but the idea of band-aids are changing. Designer Cynthia Rowley has taken fashion charity and band-aids to another level. A limited edition of 20 beautifully patterned bandages come in an old-fashioned tin in honor of Fashion Week. Don't feel bad about your scrapes and burns, one dollar from the sale of each tin will go to Design Ignites Change, an organization that engages high school and college students in design and architecture projects that address social issues in their own communities!

Start! Heart Walk - Sat, Sept 11

Walk more. Eat well. Live longer. Start! today.

The Start! Heart Walk
Saturday, September 11

Bring the whole family out to Fort Worth, in Sundance Square or Victory Park in Dallas by American Airlines Center to raise funds for the American Heart Association and save lives from this country’s number 1 and number 3 killers – heart disease and stroke.

Why we walk:
Did you know that cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of all Americans? In fact, someone dies from CVD every 38 seconds! Heart disease also kills more women than all forms of cancer combined. And congenital cardiovascular defects are the most common cause of infant death from birth defects.
You can help. When you join Start! Heart Walk, you join more than a million people in 300+ cities across America in taking a stand against heart disease and helping save lives.

The funds you raise in Start! Heart Walk will support projects like these:
-Putting up-to-the-minute research into doctors’ hands so they can better prevent and treat heart disease among patients.
-Groundbreaking pediatric heart and stroke research. About 36,000 babies are born with heart defects each year —research is the key to saving babies’ lives.
-Getting life-saving information to those who need it most – information that can save a life, like how to eat better, how to recognize the warning signs of heart attack, and how to talk to a doctor about critical health choices.

The Trinity Trust River Rats Host Trails of the Trinity

On June 16, more than 100 guests of the Trails of the Trinity event, sponsored by Colliers International, enjoyed nibbles from On the Border and margaritas poolside at the Plaza II at Turtle Creek. While classical guitarist Daniel Rodriguez played, attendees learned more information about the many trails of The Trinity project, with a focus on the White Rock Lake spine trail. Named the spine trail, this 12-mile planned trail will connect White Rock Lake down south to the Trinity River Audubon Center through the Great Trinity Forest, which consists of 6,000 acres of hardwood forests.

This event was hosted by The Trinity River Rats, a membership group of The Trinity Trust, comprised of young enthusiasts dedicated to supporting The Trinity project. With a focus on education and increasing public awareness about the project, their goal is to build support of The Trinity project among Dallas' young leaders in an effort to enhance life for the Dallas community through environmental, recreational and economical efforts. Membership benefits include access to The Trinity Trust lecture series, which features prominent speakers. Members are also invited to exclusive events, canoe trips down the Trinity River and hikes through the Great Trinity Forest. Memberships are $100 per individual or couple. To join, visit www.thetrinitytrust.org or call Tierney Kaufman at 214-740.1616.

The Trinity Trust raises funds and public awareness to implement the Balanced Vision Plan for The Trinity project in conjunction with the City of Dallas. The Trinity Trust has established The Trinity Center as the gathering place for all civic and non-profit groups working to revitalize the Trinity River in Dallas. It houses the offices of the Trinity Trust Foundation, Texas Horse Park, Groundwork Dallas and Trinity Strand Trail, and hosts meetings, workshops and events for these organizations and the Trinity Commons Foundation. The Trinity Center facilitates collaboration between these entities and the City of Dallas and encourages seamless integration of all the components of The Trinity project. The Limelight: Blondes vs Brunettes Raise Funds for Alzheimer’s Association Dallas Chapter

Blondes vs. Brunettes (BvB) is an event that started in Washington D.C and Houston, TX and spread to Dallas for its inaugural debut in August 2008. The girls’ competitive football game brings together friends, families and supportive spectators all in hopes of promoting fellowship and philanthropy for the benefit of the Alzheimer’s Association. For those who don’t know, it’s not just a dainty game of damsels frolicking about. It’s competitive, it’s intense… it’s Texas football at its best.

Blondes vs. Brunettes Dallas serves as an important fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Dallas Chapter. As part of a nationwide network of chapters, the Dallas Chapter provides help and hope to over 50,000 individuals – including those diagnosed, their families and caregivers, facing the daily challenges of Alzheimer’s. BvB Dallas also supports the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association, to eliminate Alzheimer’s through the advancement of research on a National level.

The 3rd annual Blondes vs Brunettes powder-puff football game held on August 14th was another huge success with a great turnout despite the brutal Texas heat. This year, 75 young women competed in the game. Although both teams played maintaining good sportsmanship for a worthy cause, the blondes walked away with a “three-peat” victory. This year’s game day event as well as other fundraisers held leading up to the big game contributed to BvB’s success in raising a whopping $200,000 for Alhzheimer’s research and awareness.
