Silver Supper 2009
Japonisme is the theme of the 2009 Silver Supper for the Dallas Museum of Art. The event is always elegant and chic and this year will not disappoint. I am honored to be on the Host Committee with the likes of Sharon Young, Cindy Schwartz, Lisa Runyon, Naomi Aberly, Cindy Rachofsky and Eve Reid. Christen Wilson is the 2009 Chair and her incredible style and unwavering work ethic is going to make this years event even better than ever before. The Silver Supper is a celebration of the Museum's holding in Decorative Arts, especially its world renowned collection of silver. The Nineteenth century Asian design movement is the inspiration for this years event and the atmosphere will be glamorous and exotic.

The Family Place is up to something new! Although Palm Night has brought great success to their past fundraisers, they are now announcing their new and unique concept for their Fall Fundraiser: ESCAPADE - An Evening of Comedy, Costumes and Characters. It promises to be "an extremely fun evening, totally hilarious, and filled with laughter." I can't wait! For the Love of Animals

Even though it has been two months since I had the chance to support Madeline Pickens and the Texas Humane Legislation Network, I did not want to miss the opportunity to write about the amazing things that they are doing. Mr. and Mrs. T. Boone Pickens have dedicated themselves to aiding the welfare of all animals. You have probably heard about their rescue of over 800 animals during Hurricane Katrina and the development of a sanctuary for the majestic American Mustang. As the Texas Humane Legislation mentioned on the invitation for their "Evening with Madeline Pickens," she is truly "giving a voice to those who have no voice."
The evening was chaired by Stacey and Don Kivowitz at The Plaza in May. It was inspiring and amazing. To learn more about how you can help with the Texas Humane Legislation Network or to make a donation you can call 214-727-2008.

Wednesday's Child - Warm Hugs & Warm Soles Luncheon

I am so proud to say that my mother, Myrna Schlegel, will be the Honorary Chair for the Hearts & Hands Alliance for Wednesday's Child - Warm Hugs and Warm Soles Luncheon on the 14th of October. The luncheon will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Northwood Club. My grandmother is the truly one of the most generous souls in the world and she, along with my grandfather, kept over 35 foster children while raising 5 children of their own! This makes the honor to my mother even more special to our family. This years luncheon will feature and amazing speaker: Chris Gardner, author of The Pursuit of Happyness. Chris' amazing story was also made into feature film and he was played by Will Smith. If you have not seen it the you should run, not walk, to Blockbuster and watch it tonight! The film, and Chris' true story, is so inspiring. You will certainly cry so keep a box of tissues near by. I have a feeling we might need them at the luncheon as well! For more information on tickets and sponsorships please email Cheryl Brown at cherylbrown@sbcglobal.net.

Treasures from Diego Rivera at the Meadows

As an Art History student at SMU was an amazing experience and I treasure all of the wonderful classes held at the Meadows Museum. It has come a long way since I graduated in 1998! What was once displayed in a carved out space inside the Arts Building is now at home in an impressive and grand building of it's own. It is certainly worth the visit and I believe that it is truly one of Dallas' hidden gems. Well, if you missed the Diego Rivera viewing party on Friday the 19th of June, don't fret. You can still see all of the amazing Cubist Portraits and hear a special lecture.
July 16th or 23rd at 6pm you could catch the Thursday evening Lecture Series titled Diego Rivera and the Mexican Revolution by Dr. Luis Martin, Professor Emeritus of History, SMU
On August 20th at 6pm you can catch Dr. Mark Roglan, Director of the Meadows Museum, and his lecture, Diego Rivera and Spain (1907-1922).
On September 17th at 6pm you can hear Paloma Alarco, the Curator of Modern Paintings at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid teach about The Portrait Gone to Pieces: The Cubist Era in Paris.
In the meantime, you should join the Museum! For more information you can contact the Membership office at 214-768-2765.
