Wednesday's Child - Warm Hugs & Warm Soles Luncheon

Chris Gardner , the inspiration for the Will Smith film, The Pursuit of Happyness, and his lecture were so inspiring at the Wednesday's Child luncheon and we ended up doing a great deal shopping there! We could not stop adding people to the list of names we had him sign books for because his message is truly one that everyone can relate to. His lecture, demeanor and candid answers to any question led to a standing ovation and the line to get his books signed was so long that I missed my lunch! I did make it back to the table in time for one of the amazing cakes that was delivered though! Each table got a different cake theme for dessert. We had amazing bumble bee cakes at our table and another one had round cakes made to look like giant lollipops. It was just adorable! Here is a picture of my mother, Myrna Schlegel, who was the honorary chair with Chris Gardner. This event was incredibly special to my mother because she grew up with foster children. My grandparents kept 36 foster children throughout the years and my mother often tells me stories about what it was like to grow up in such a generous household!

Junioir League of Plano's Fantastic Neath the Wreath Gift Market

The Junior League of Plano’s annual holiday gift market, ‘Neath The Wreath, will mark 14 years of shopping, friendship and fun this November. One of the biggest shopping extravaganzas in Collin County, ‘Neath The Wreath never fails to disappoint in kicking off the holiday shopping season. For the first time ever, ‘Neath The Wreath offers 4 full days of shopping. Although this extra day is a stretch for volunteer staff, it was an important decision for JLP in looking for ways to grow revenues. The Plano Centre is completely full with 170 booths, so there is no further opportunity to grow revenues by adding vendors. The next best choice was to extend the available shopping hours & continue to recruit new shoppers for the market.

The market’s signature event, Ladies Night Out, will celebrate 5 years on Thursday, November 12th. Attendance records have been broken each year and last year we had 850 ladies join the party. Help us jump to 1,000 attendees this year in honor of our 5th anniversary by grabbing your friends and coming out Nov 12th! Ladies Night Out guests enjoy private shopping, specialty cocktails, delicious hors d’oeuvres, a gift market day pass for a return shopping trip and a fabulous silent auction from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm. Tickets to Ladies Night Out are $35 and can only be purchased online between October 1st and November 9th. VIP guests enjoy everything mentioned above but are showered with several “extras”. Purchase your $75 VIP ticket and begin your fun evening an hour early at 6:00 pm. Additionally VIP guests have valet parking, their own lounge with food & drinks as well as a special gift bag. This year the bags are Saks 5th Avenue totes and the LNO Committee has acquired great surprises inside! Only 150 VIP tickets will be sold, so purchase your ticket online quickly before they are all sold out.

Specialty cocktails at Ladies Night Out you say? McCormick Distilling Inc. is partnering with the Junior League of Plano to provide several new signature drinks featuring two of their prime brands. It is sure to be a fantastic evening!

Neath the Wreath Holiday Gift Market is held at the Plano Center, 2000 East. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, TX 75074
